A MESSAGE FROM YOUR DIRECTOR

Dear Au Members

As we prepare to step onto the Region 10 stage once more, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we’ve shared. This chorus was founded with a vision—a dream of high-quality music, deep friendships, and performance excellence. Whether you’ve been with us since our charter in 2011 or joined in the last year, we have continued working together to build something extraordinary. Every note we’ve sung, every challenge we’ve faced, and every victory we’ve celebrated has been a testament to the heart and dedication of this chorus.

Our history is one of resilience, persistence, and passion. From our early years, where we set the foundation of who we wanted to become, to the milestones we have achieved—multiple Division A championships, standing on the International stage, earning two Audience Favorite awards, and seeing our scores soar with a 70-point improvement in a single year. Even when the world paused for two years, we persisted.

And now, here we are—heading into the 62nd annual Great Gulf Coast Region 10 contest, ready to “Come on and Sing!” I love this tagline—it’s so inviting! It connects to so much of what we’ve experienced together over the last nine months as we’ve built toward this contest weekend.

THIS CHORUS—this one right now!—has prepared music early, held a coaching retreat a month ahead of schedule with one of the most soughtafter coaches in the barbershop community (shout-out to Rob Mance!), performed at an International Barbershop Harmony Society convention, returned to the stage for a local chapter show in Austin, and pushed ourselves further through a transformative camping retreat and coaching with Caroline Durrett. Every step has challenged us to reach a higher level of performance and ownership than ever before.

We are carrying not just our past successes, but literally the permission from our coaches to be the chorus we ALREADY ARE. Ours is a long pattern and a long walk—we are closing out the entire competition. It will demand the most from us, but we have already demanded the most of ourselves in the preparation we committed to before stepping onto that stage.

Let’s embody the risk. The heart. The story.

With all my love, pride and trust in you and our preparation,

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR TEAM LEADER

To the incredible Au membership,

Can you believe this is our 12th Gulf Coast Region 10 Competition performance? This year, we’re in a new city with a new venue, hotel, and pattern. Geez, it might be crazy, but it will surely be fun! There are so many reasons to prepare for an unforgettable experience.

Au members Melanie, Laura, KW, and Kadi will perform as Better than BeFour at the quartet competition on Friday. Another quartet to catch is Hot Note, with Patty Cobb Baker singing tenor! We will be celebrating our Katy all weekend. This will be her last performance directing Au. Although her departure is bittersweet, we are excited for her as she begins a new chapter in her glorious life journey! Let’s make it one of our best! Change is hard. This weekend will present challenges. Bring your charm, grace, and hospitality.

Onward and Upward!

Your Management Team

Those staying at the hotel have two free breakfasts included in their room. Non-registered guests pay $14.95+tax for the buffet breakfast. THE CONTEST WEEKEND EXPERIENCE

POP TO ATTENTION, DOWN THE TILES!

FOCUS – The lights are hot and bright. The judges are in the “pit” in front of the stage. The stage is new to everyone. The sound you are used to in rehearsals will NOT be there so sing as you did in rehearsal. Manage your nerves and DO NOT over sing if you can’t hear yourself or the others around you. Do the plan as we have rehearsed it over and over. WATCH KATY—Remember ALL THE THINGS. Here we go with...

You Are My Sunshine You are “Down the Tiles” while we accept applause. When Katy turns to face us, turn with her back to center. All eyes are on Katy. Listen to the pitch and sing the tune-up chord with commitment. Remember to keep your head over your shoulders, relax. Expand your rib cage and breathe, sing, breathe. The Door was just slammed in your face!! Focus and remember the emotional journey through this heart-rending ballad. At the end, when Katy turns to accept applause, you are back down the tiles. Remain down the tiles until she turns back to us for A Wonderful Day Like Today. Breathe, energize the pitch and think about donuts! The intro to this song has a lot going on and the judges will use it to set our level so let’s give them something that will get them excited about what they are about to hear. Breathe–sing–breathe. Sing through the words and phrase endings. Don’t slow down once tempo is set. Call on all your resources to keep up your stamina and energy. Sell this song with all the joy you can muster.Watch as Katy turns to the audience and turn down the tiles. It will be our last contest performance with Katy in front of us. Make it the best experience for her and for us. Have Fun!

When the competition is over and the winners in each division have been announced, don’t wander off. Au will have a tailgate in the Topfer parking lot while the theatre is turned over. The Show of Champions will begin approximately 30 minutes after the contest awards have been presented. Stay nearby for Au’s call to get back on the stage. If we win Division A we will be in the Show of Champions...where and how many songs we sing will depend on how we finish in the contest. Division A champs sing 1 song....Over-all winners: 3rd Place - 2 songs, 2nd Place - 2 songs, 1st Place - 3 songs. Plus the quartets. After the Show of Champions, grab some dinner on your own, get back to the hotel for the...

Afterglow:The region-wide Afterglow will be at the Holiday Inn, in Lantana A/B/C. It will begin at 10 pm and go until midnight. Change into your jeans or comfy pants, grab a snack, and head to the Lantana Rooms for more singing and camaraderie with our Sweet Adeline sisters!!! The cash bar will be open until midnight.
