Want that beach body? Want to look good for Spring Break and feel confident? Here are some quick tips to help you stay in shape!

Part of Body

Arms

What to Exercise and How BICEPS- To perform a basic curl, hold weights with palms facing out, elbows next to the body. Bend the elbows and curl the weights toward the shoulders without moving the elbows. Lower and repeat. Do 1 or 2 reps of 12-18 curls. TRICEPS- Sit on a bench or chair. Begin with the hands next to or slightly under the hips, and lift up onto the hands and bring the hips forward. Bend the elbows (no lower than 90 degrees) and lower the hips down, keeping them very close to the chair, and keeping the shoulders down. Push back up without locking the elbows and repeat for 10-16 reps. BICYCLES- Lie face up on your mat and place your hands behind

Core

your head, lightly supporting it with your fingers. Bring the knees in to the chest and lift the shoulder blades off the floor without pulling on the neck. Rotate to the left, bringing the right elbow towards the left knee as you straighten the other leg, then switch sides, bringing the left elbow towards the right knee. Continue alternating sides in a ‘pedaling’ motion for 1-3 sets of 12-16 reps.

PLANK- Lie face down on mat resting on the forearms, palms flat on

the floor. Push off the floor, raising up onto toes and resting on the elbows. Keep your back flat, in a straight line from head to heels. Tilt your pelvis and contract your abdominals to prevent your rear end from sticking up in the air or sagging in the middle. Hold for 20 to 60 seconds, lower and repeat for 3-5 reps.

Legs

SQUATS WITH SIDE STEP- Place a medium resistance band under the feet and hold onto handles with both hands. You may need to wrap the band around your hands a few times to add more tension. Take a wide step to the right, squeezing the glute as the tube tightens. Lower into a squat, knees behind toes and keeping tension on the tube. Slowly step feet together, and continue stepping to the right for 8-16 reps or the length of the room before switching sides. LUNGES- Choose one leg and step forward about one to two feet. Begin bending your front knee until it is over the top of the foot. Never extend it beyond the toes. As you bend this knee, lift the heel of the opposite leg. The knee will be forced to bend as you lunge down. Stop when both knees are at a 90 degree angle with the floor. Shift all of your weight to the balls of your feet, concentrating on your toes. (If you need to step forward more to make this happen without leaning that’s fine.) Finally, pull your body back up to the starting position.

Good Food without the Guilt! Want to look good for Spring Break and feel confident? Here are some quick tips to help you stay in shape!

Baked Chicken Nuggets What you need: - 16 oz (2 large) skinless boneless chicken breasts, cut into even bit sized pieces - salt and pepper to taste - 2 tsp olive oil - 6 tbsp whole wheat Italian seasoned breadcrumbs - 2 tbsp panko - 2 tbsp grated parmesan cheese - olive oil spray

Preheat oven to 425째. Spray a baking sheet with olive oil spray. Put the olive oil in one bowl and the breadcrumbs, panko and parmesan cheese in another. Season chicken with salt and pepper, then put in the bowl with the olive oil and mix well so the olive oil evenly coats all of the chicken. Put a few chunks of chicken at a time into the breadcrumb mixture to coat, then on the baking sheet. Lightly spray the top with olive oil spray then bake 8 - 10 minutes. Turn over then cook another 4 - 5 minutes or until cooked.

Pink Lemonade Confetti Cupcakes What you need: - 18.25 oz box confetti cake mix, - 2 1/2 tsp powdered sugar-free pink lemonade mix - 1 cup water - 1 tbsp vegetable oil - 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce - lemon zest from half of a lemon - 2 drops pink food coloring (optional) - confetti sprinkles, optional

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line cupcake tins with 24 paper liners. Stir together the water and pink lemonade powder. Combine the cake mix, pink lemonade mixture, applesauce, lemon zest, food coloring and oil in a large bowl and with an electric mixer, mix until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined. Pour the batter into the prepared cupcake pans. Add sprinkles if using and bake in the oven for 22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cupcakes comes out clean. Cool completely on wire racks before serving. page by: Britta Erickson

St. Patrick’s Day Fast Facts

St. Patrick’s Day toast: “May the roof above us never fall in, and may we friends beneath it never fall out.”

St. Patrick was born in Britian. St. Patrick is most known for driving the snakes from Ireland. Boston was the first American city that celebrated in a public way.

The name “lephrechaun” has several origins. It could be from the Irish Gaelic word “leipreachan,” which means “a kind of aqueous sprite.” Or, it could be from “leath bhrogan,” which means “shoemaker.”

St. Patrick is credited with establishing the Leap Year tradition of women proposing to men.

In Ireland They have parades, shamrocks, and green beer that are provided primarily for tourists.

Celebrating In America

Chicago has developedthe tradition of coloring its river water greeen. In 1962, they started the tradition, when they added 100 pounds of green vegetable dye to its river (enough to keep it green for a week). This is a continuing tradition except now they only use enough food coloring to keep it colored for a few hours.

Everywhere People dress in green clothing and eat food, which is either naturally or dyed green. Some people go as far as holding green dinner parties where the guests are expected to wear green and eat exclusively green food.
