Taurus Cancer Virgo

(May 21 – June 20) (July 23 – August 22)

Scorpio Capricorn Pisces

You’ll walk down a smooth, wise and protected path if you focus on long ideas, profound relationships, and far travel. However, progress here, though smooth, will also be slow. Still, this is a good time to enter university, better for a science, medicine or engineering college. It is a good time to learn religion and/or philosophies.

(February 19 - March 20)

(September 23 – October 22)

Your smooth, productive karma lies in a similar but different area: light romance, flirtation, creativity by committee, group affairs, entertainment, popularity, planning for the future. Rather than dive into a self-indulgent moment, embrace optimism about your future. If you stick to this light, friendly side, you’ll eventually succeed.

(December 22 - January 19)

(November 22 - December 21)

(October 23 - November 21)

All situations involving the intellect, learning, travel, and social rituals or culture demand careful thought make decisions here only when you’re aware of all the factors – and accept all delays. In general, this is a poor time to enter into a lawsuit, higher education, international travel, importexport, a publishing venture, or an extensive writing project. Be friends rather than love someone. You might experience a series of delays, some of them inexplicable or seemingly unreasonable, in partnerships, relocation, contract signings or negotiations, co-habitation, fame, or dealings with the public. These delays are actually protection, keeping you from walking through the wrong door. It is better to rely on yourself and your own efforts now. Don’t commit your future.

(August 23 – September 22)

(June 21 – July 22)

Aquarius

Choose the first of all these pairs: prestige, ambition, career, and treat the second with a light touch – do only what is necessary in these last zones. You’ll find delay and restriction even in the favored zones of ambition, but keep the faith here. If ambitious, you’ll build a structure that ensures your work security for a long time.

Sagittarius

As much as you can, aim for management roles, delegating chores, and seek the big benevolent arms of government agencies, institutions, or large corporations. This is a good time for therapy, counseling, advice,or seeking a spa or vacation retreat. Don’t become anyone’s slave.

Libra

Letting others have a strong say or control over your financial outcomes, can lead to regret. The safer way: earn your own income, spend it, and keep it. Focus on daily money, not long-term. Accept surface appearances rather than mistrusting, researching and opening closet doors.

Your karma axis lies in the region of love and socializing. You will encounter at least one situation in which you must decide between friendly and flirtatious love, and profound infatuation/romance – or between your friends and your lover. Let beauty, even “sad beauty,” outweigh optimism. If you grow too optimistic during this time you’ll actually miss your true opportunity.

Leo

This is a bad time to change careers or push higher-ups to follow your agenda – both would land you in difficulties. Until late June 2013, your true luck lies in being social and happily, lightly romantic. Let fun fill your days – this keeps you safe from the temptations that roam power corridors. From mid-2013 to February 2014, rest, retreat and home will bless you.

Gemini

Karma has to operate somewhere, it will tend to block you in management, charity, spiritualism, meditation, yoga, retreat, and spas. To succeed, move toward a hands-on approach. Learn to play an instrument. Write. Seek employment. Be practical, pragmatic.

Use self-contemplation to correct your Interdependence rather than independence. Some might reject you; that doesn’t matter because 1) at least one person will respond & guide you safely through the reefs ahead, and 2) the mere act of trying will bring you a gratifying feeling. Rejecting others will do the opposite: something inside will wilt, and that will seek things that can hurt you.

(April 20 – May 20)

You must now exercise a high emotional tenor, avoid self-pity, resentment, temptation, impatience and other unsavory motives or states of mind. Avoid focusing strongly on earnings; casual sensuality, spending and personal possessions, and refuse to rely too heavily on surface appearances.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH February is the dedicated month where African American history is recognized. Originally, when Carter G. Woodson created this holiday it was called ‘Negro History Week’ and most people were unaware about all the experiences black people had. Many people assumed it was limited to just remembering the suffering they dealt with during slavery, however, now it is clear that African Americans have significantly impacted the social, economical, and political structures of the United States and the world.

Carter G. Woodson Carter G. Woodson dedicated his career to the field of African-American history and lobbied extensively to establish Black History Month as a nationwide institution. Woodson swayed schools and organizations to participate in a special program to encourage the study of African-American

history, which began in February 1926 with ‘Negro History Week’. The program was later expanded and renamed Black History Month. February was chosen for the initial weeklong celebration to honor the birth months of abolitionist Frederick Douglass and President Abraham Lincoln.

The First Family Michelle, Sasha, Malia, and Barack Obama created a milestone in black history in 2008 by becoming the first black family in the white house. Obama served two terms and in those long years of keeping the U.S and his family together, Mr. and Mrs. Obama have celebrated twenty-one years of marriage.

Eartha Kitt was one of the first mega-stars of her time. She most notably earned the recurring role of Catwoman in the television version of Batman. Eartha was utterly blacklisted from the professional community for her position on the Veitnam war and the Johnson administration’s policy on the youth who fought.

Martin Luther King Jr. impacted the Civil Rights Movement during the 1950’s and 1960’s dramatically. He used a nonviolent approach in attempt to make discrimination end. King is infamous for giving the well known speech “I Have a Dream” and for his persistence. He was granted the Nobel Peace Prize and the inspiration of an American nation.

Jane Bolin was the first black woman to become a judge in the US. She was also the first black woman to earn a law degree from Yale, the first to pass the New York State bar exam and the first to join the city’s law department. Bolin also helped create a racially integrated treatment center for delinquent boys.

In 1979, Johnson and his wife Sheila founded Black Entertainment Television, the first cable network targeting the African-American market. It was launched in January 1980, initially broadcasting for two hours a week. In 1991, BET became the first African-American-owned company to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Mardi gras 2014 and the reason for the season Purple, green, and gold. People fill the streets every year to celebrate this raucously exciting holiday. We all know what it is: Mardi Gras, the festive celebration enjoyed all over the world. This year, Mardi Gras is going to be celebrated on March 4th. While Mardi Gras in the United States is not observed nationally across the country, a number of cities and regions in the U.S. have notable Carnival celebrations. The most notable of the celebrations in the US is the one that takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans Mardi Gras celebrations draw hundreds of thousands of tourists to the city to mingle with the locals at the famed parties and parades. As many as half a million spectators have been estimated by officials to line the route of major parades. Closer to home, we have the Galveston Mardi Gras Parade. Although it’s not as large as the celebration in New Orleans, it attracts nearly 200,000 participants every year. http://brightestyoungthings.com/articles/the-hit-list-things-to-do-tonight-in-dc-66.htm

8

Mardi Gras parades are usually fantastically whimsical. Parades consist of many decorated floats, each with its respective group of performers or bead throwers.

Mardi Gras is, believe it or not, is a world-wide celebrated holiday. It’s celebrated in Brazil, Belgium, Spain, The Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, and other countries. In the Belgian city of Binche the Mardi Gras festival is one of the most important days of the year and the summit of the Carnival of Binche. Around 1000 Gilles dance throughout the city from morning until past dusk, whilst traditional carnival songs play. “Gilles” wear traditional outfits and carry around baskets of blood oranges, per tradition. In Italy Mardi Gras is called Martedí Grasso (Fat Tuesday). It’s the main day of Carnival along with the Thursday before, called Giovedí Grasso (Fat Thursday), which signals the start of the celebration. The most famous Carnivals in Italy are in Venice, Viareggio and Ivrea. Ivrea has the characteristic “Battle of Oranges” that finds its roots in medieval times. Mardi Gras is an enjoyable holiday for many people. It’s a good excuse to go into town dressed in interesting clothing, and throw beads at people. But why do we do it? What are the origins of the Mardi Gras holiday?

stuco to host carnival of hope Student Council will host the Carnival of Hope on Friday February seventh during an extended den period. The theme this year will be Super Mario because the carnival consists of games. “We wanted the atmosphere to feel as if you were in a video game and playing different mini-games,” Student Body President, David Harris said. There is panned to be about 30 different booths ran by Student Council and other organizations planned to have the typical large booths such as pie in the face, face painting, donut fishing, and food along with all the classic carnival games all with a Super Mario twist. SUPERBOWL XLVIII SURE TO BRING EXCITEMENT

VS.

16

~BEATING THE ODDS~

DATE:

*THE FAVORED SUPER BOWL TEAM*

The Seahawks have given up the least amount of yardage this entire season, as opposed to any other team in the NFL. Their best bet is to stay on the offensive end, and keep the ball in their possession. Marshawn Lynch is like a power force--takes about 3 to 4 people to get him down, therefore, if Seattle can formulate a play to get him open, Denver’s defense won’t stand a chance. On the defensive end, however, they have to keep Peyton Manning in the pocket and put the pressure on him to either a) hope for an interception b) force him to throw it away, or c) SACK him

february 2

The 2014 Super Bowl ‘odds’ has the Broncos as 2-3 point favorites to win the title. Denver has to focus on beating Seattle’s defense, ranked #1 in the nation and all of the NFL. The main guy to avoid coming in contact with is Richard Sherman, the man who is the main reason the Seahawks are even making an appearance in Super Bowl XLVIII. Offensively, Denver doesn’t have any weak spots, but the fait of the team is in Peyton Manning’s hands. He has to be on his A-game, and be precise, consistent, and accurate with every single pass he puts up. With an astonishing 15-3 record (matching Seattle’s 15-3 record), there is no doubt that Peyton could be bringing home another Super Bowl ring on February 2.
