ARTWORKS CONCENTRATION
The Stages of Grief white and black charcoal, graphite, oil and chalk pastels on paper
“The nature of my concentration shows the different stages of grief. I use elements such as movement and water as ymbols for the strong emotional and pysical consequences of grief.�
There is a recognition of sadness that is first laid down, and the the regret, the disappointment, the confusion, the shock, and the anger building up inside. The grief settles in and it is now up to the individual to handle this grief. Can they handle it? Many individuals cannot and it soon begins to take over, controlling the mind, heart, and soul. In the end, darkness setlles in and the hunger driving for more of the weakness that human grief provides.

Who are you? Do you know? Do others? No one knows who you are and even then you do not know yourself. Your mind is always evolving and changing, and you keep asking yourself, “Who am I?”

STUDY MODELS Study Models were used to wonder through different materials, textures, and forms that came out from them.

ABSTRACT MODEL After Study Models came a more elaborated abstract model which explored further materials to the concept.

HISTORY OF THE HIGH LINE

1960s

The High Line first started being used by trains until they began dwindling and then trucks surfaced.
1970s
Then, that too went away and the structure soon followed.
1990s
The High Line was seen as an “ugly eyesore.” A lot of thought was put into what the High Line would become. It was soon decided that it would turn into a public park and, with that, the process began.

2009 The High Line’s first section was opened.
2012
It opens completely to the public.
Today The High Line is now a huge deal for New York offering 1.45-mile-long greenway with a variety of plants and trees. It is well-maintained, holds a community within including world-class artwork, and is an open space to all.

Hudson River & Docks Not more than a block away from the site is the Hudson River. There is a lot of activity on this river, especially when New Jersey is on the otherside.
New York is already a very loud area but more specifically 10th Avenue holds a lot of buses and cars providing more noise to the site. In addition, 11th Avenue holds noise as well, by being right on the docks of the Hudson River itself.
IAC Right next door to the site is the IAC, which is one of the many unique buildings.
Galleries & Shops This is the Lisson Gallery. There are galleries that are located closer to the site than shops, but keeping that in mind, with that comes a lot of noise, chaos, and sound.
Parking It is hard to find parking but there are decks scattered across NY. Located here is Edison ParkFast.
SITE The High Line Located on 10th Avenue is an entrance to the High Line. The High Line stretches out, running up along 10th Avenue. It is a popular place for citizens.

STREET OF BARNS
One of Lyonel Feininger’s many oil paintings was created in 1914 called Street of Barns. It holds many different types of elements, including organizational pattern, asymmetrical balance, line styles, and repetition of different shapes of triangles and rectangles. Gradiant values and smooth textures are also used to add on to the clustered appearance with soothing colors of blue, green, and purple. At the bottom right of the painting a focal point is hinted due to the directions of lines and shapes. The Textile, Sculpture, and Art Gallery pieces all relate back to Street of Barns using the same composition, color, and line and form as depicted.

PROCESS
Using line and form, color was added in order to bring in similar hues from Street of Barns.
Fortress of Solitude a textile using form, shape, color, and line to perform rhythms similar to Lyonel Feininger’s Street of Barns Sketches with Oil Pastels, then brought into Adobe Illustrator to create pattern and repetitions

To make sure all edges lined up to create the final pattern, there is a process where one cuts an image in half, flips them, rotates at ninety degrees, and then cuts again, flips, and rotates.

The Neue Nationalgalerie Case Study allowed for further knowledge in AutoCAD and Sketchup programs while also understanding the inner side of the building.
