Cheli & Peacock

Rubondo Island

– Cheli & Peacock Safaris operates up-market and bespoke safaris for clients that still want the “real safari” experience

– Offering unrivalled access to a distinctive destination

Over 30 years of experience and extensive knowledge of East Africa make Cheli & Peacock one of the longest established and leading Destination Management Companies in Kenya and Tanzania.

Rubondo Island Camp is the only camp on Rubondo Island, one of the largest island national parks in Africa. The pristine forest covering 80 per cent of its surface is home to such rare creatures as the wild chimpanzee, which was introduced there in the 1960s to benefit from the remote habitat.

Cheli & Peacock are completely independent, operating safaris all over East Africa, choosing the best and most unique properties and locations. The policy is to operate professional and seamless safaris to the most spectacular and professionally run locations; always keeping as priority the enjoyment and safety of guests.

The exclusive camp includes just eight luxury cottages, all built by hand using traditional skills and local materials to ensure a light footprint on the island’s delicate ecosystem. Enjoy forest walks, game viewing, birding excursions, canoe trips, trekking through wild chimpanzee territory, catch-and-release fishing and other eco-friendly activities.

Lewa Safari Camp

– An integral part of the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy The only camp owned by the immensely successful conservancy and designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lewa Safari Camp's profits are reinvested into vital conservation and community work. Wildlife viewing is spectacular: sightings of the "Big Five" before breakfast; the world’s largest concentration of endangered Grévy’s zebra; and prolific birdlife. The camp has 11 safari tents and two family tents with private verandas and ensuite bathrooms. Landscaped gardens and cosy log fires in the dining room make this a beautiful and homey retreat, yet with privileged access to over 26,000 hectares (65,000 acres) of private protected wilderness.
