Migration Flight
Mbalageti Tented Camp
Tanzania’s phenomenal annual wildebeest migration passes through Singita Grumeti Reserves during June/July, moving on to the Northern Serengeti area in pursuit of the rain.
Located in the western corridor of the Serengeti National Park, with a breathtaking panorama view of the Serengeti plain lands and the Mbalageti river, where one of the main attractions is the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra.
Singita offers flights from Sasakwa airstrip throughout the year for guests who would like to combine a stay at Singita with a day spent with the herds – wherever they are in the Serengeti. A short flight in the morning takes guests to a landing strip where they are met by a Singita guide and vehicle.
Mbalageti Serengeti offers 24 Luxury Tented Chalets with canvas fitted bedrooms, full en-suite bathrooms and a private verandah functions as an extension to the bedroom. There are Two Luxury Tented Suites, encompassing a beautifully decorated dining room, two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, an outdoor bath and a fully furnished terrace.
The day is spent enjoying the migration and a sumptuous picnic lunch before flying back to Singita Grumeti Reserve’s airstrip later that same afternoon. This flight is offered on a Tuesday, Friday and Saturday only.
The Chalets and suites have been built to make the visitor’s stay as comfortable and memorable as can be. Made from local rock and wood, and offering all the amenities and attention to detail of an upmarket camp, these canvas fitted chalets offer luxury in harmony with nature. The Lodge also offers standard Lodge Rooms as an option for budget travellers.
Serengeti Migration Camp
Kirawira Luxury Tented Camp
Perched on a rocky outcrop (or kopjie) in the northern Serengeti, Migration Camp has arguably one of the best sites inside the national park enjoying awe-inspiring views to far flung horizons over the endless plains from which the Serengeti takes its name.
Styled to replicate the elegant hunting camps of such legendary ‘white hunters’ as Denys Finch Hatton and Baron Bror Blixen, Kirawira Luxury Tented Camp is located adjacent to the famous western corridor of the Serengeti National Park - arena of the ‘Greatest Wildlife Show on Earth’, the annual migration of over one million wildebeest.
The tented luxury ‘suites’ are far removed from ‘camping’ having luxurious furnishings and en-suite facilities, but are still ‘under canvas’ with guests sleeping with only very thin fabric between them and the great outdoors. Hippo, lion and hyena lullabies can be clearly heard during the night. With just twenty well-spaced and private tents the camp enjoys a fine reputation for hospitality and cuisine.
The camp has just 25 widely-spaced luxury tents, raised on timber platforms, each with a glorious view of the plains. Each tent has a spacious furnished deck leading to a bedroom furnished in antique Edwardian style with steamer-trunks, writing desk, brass lamps, rugs, sepia photographs and four-poster bed with patchwork quilt.
The main sitting and dining areas are also under canvas and enjoy great views. The sundowner decks and nightly camp fire are the perfect place to celebrate yet another marvellous day on safari.
The luxurious ensuite bathroom is fitted with carved mahogany furniture and features a classic black-and-white tiled floor (separate flush toilet, shower, twin marble basins, hot and cold running water). Each tent has its own personal valet.
