DAY 1 - ARRIVE AUCKLAND (D) On arrival collect your rental car and make your way into the Auckland city, situated between two harbours and dotted with extinct volcanoes. Tonight enjoy a dinner cruise on the Waitemata Harbour under the Auckland Harbour Bridge. Overnight: Sky City Hotel Te Anau Glow Worm Caves

DAY 6 - QUEENSTOWN – TE ANAU (170KM) (B) Rivers and mountains provide endless photo opportunities on the way to Te Anau. The township lies on the shores of Lake Te Anau and caves, lake trips and walking tracks will occupy your time in Te Anau DAY 2 - AUCKLAND (B)

Overnight: Distinction Te Anau Hotel & Villas

Enjoy a picturesque 40 minute cruise across the glorious Hauraki Gulf to Waiheke Island. On arrival at Matiatia Wharf you will be taken first to Stonyridge Vineyard for a tour and tastings, plus a sumptuous light lunch. The tour then departs for the award-winning Rangihoua Estate for some olive tasting, followed by a stop at Wild on Waiheke, which offers optional beer tasting as well as wine.

A visit to Te Anau Glowworm Caves is highly recommended.

Overnight: Skycity Hotel Auckland DAY 3 - AUCKLAND – MATAMATA (160KM) (B/L/D) Travel to Matamata today where your tour takes you through the sheep farm that surrounds Hobbiton, the filming location for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies. Your guide will escort you through this beautiful piece of farmland and explain its transformation into The Shire from Middle Earth. Stop for a Barbeque Lunch at the Shires Rest.. Later enjoy warm hospitality and the real experience of farm life in New Zealand during your hosted farm stay accommodation Overnight: Farmstay DAY 4 - MATAMATA – ROTORUA (70KM) (B/L) Travel into Rotorua and experience Maori culture at Te Puia and take a tour through a thermal valley full of roaring geysers and bubbling mud pools. Explore Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park where you can get up close to the native birds and plants. Visit Agrodome, a working farm where you can view a sheep shearing display and sheep dog trials. Also during the day, take the Skyline Gondola up Mt Ngongotaha for the most spectacular views in Rotorua. Buffet lunch is at the summit before you ride the luge (part go-cart, part toboggan) through the beautiful forest back downhill. This evening enjoy tranquil bathing and lake views amongst native New Zealand flora in the hot mineral pools at Polynesian Spa. Overnight: Millennium Hotel Rotorua

DAY 7 - DOUBTFUL SOUND OVERNIGHT EXCURSION (B/L) Today’s Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise takes you into the wilderness of one of New Zealand’s most spectacular and pristine fiords. With stunning views of waterfalls, rainforest and mountains it is home to bottlenose dolphins, fur seals and penguins. Dedicated nature guides provide specialist knowledge of the region’s history, flora and fauna and kayaking and exploring by tender craft is offered. Please note: As the overnight cruise does not operate over winter it will be replaced with a day cruise and additional night Te Anau . DAY 8 - TE ANAU - QUEENSTOWN (170KM) (B) The resort town of Queenstown is exciting, sophisticated and fantastically scenic. Today is free to enjoy many of the sights and activities on offer. Overnight: Hilton Queenstown DAY 9 - QUEENSTOWN – CHRISTCHURCH (480KM) ((B) Travel through a mixture of high country tussock, farmland and snow-capped mountains. You may like to take a sidetrip to Aoraki, Mt Cook, New Zealand’s tallest mountain where you can explore the village and soak up the view. Pass exquisite, turquoise Lake Tekapo and braided river crossings before the patchwork farmlands of Canterbury Plains lead you into Christchurch. Overnight: Chateau on the Park DAY 10 - DEPART CHRISTCHURCH (B) This morning Punting on the Avon River is recommended if time permits. Your tour ends today with the return of your rental car to Christchurch Airport depot.
