TOURING
2025/2026 SEASON
Founded in 1992, Kolibri is one of Hungary’s leading professional children’s theatres with a permanent company, offering performances for ages 0-18. With over 20 productions each season, its diverse repertoire includes adaptations of literature, contemporary plays, puppetry, fairy tales, operas, and physical theatre.
A pioneer in Hungarian children’s theatre, Kolibri introduced live music, theatre for babies, classroom performances, and innovative adaptations of both classic and contemporary works. Originally a puppet theatre, Kolibri now blends puppetry with prose. With three venues and international collaborations, it enriches Budapest’s cultural scene, particularly in youth theatre.
Kolibri Theatre frequently participates in international children’s and youth theatre festivals across the globe, from Japan to Europe. These festivals offer a platform for the theatre to showcase Hungarian children’s theatre, presenting its performances to a global audience of both professionals and general spectators.
Kolibri has collaborated with foreign theatres to create co-producti ons, merging diverse cultural traditions and theatrical styles. These partnerships foster cross-cultural exchange and bring fresh perspectives to the international theatre community, enriching the global arts landscape.
The theatre actively engages in several EU-funded projects, promoting international cultural cooperation and providing interactive arts experiences for young audiences. Notable projects include:

Let’s make theatre together – with paper!
Blank paper or newspaper is perfect for drawing, coloring, and painting. In the past, people used to write letters, poems, and even entire novels on paper. Today, newspapers, magazines, and books are printed on paper, but you can also fold paper into human or animal shapes, cut out intricate lace designs, or make paper airplanes and hats. Paper is used to make disposable party plates, cups, napkins, and tissues, and it can even be crumpled into a ball. When you rustle it, it becomes a musical instrument; attach a whistle, and it turns into a paper trumpet. In theatre, paper can be transformed into anything you imagine. Paper sparks creativity and brings your ideas to life. What does paper mean to us? What can we do with a stack of paper before it’s tossed into the bin? Come join us and bring some paper to the theatre!Created within the framework of the Small Size - Performing Arts for Early Years European project’s Wide Eyes program.

Stefo Nantsou – Tom Lycos: The Stones
Age recommendation: 12+
The Stones is a powerful play based on a true story about two young boys, aged 13 and 15, who are charged with manslaughter after accidentally killing a motorist by throwing rocks off a freeway overpass. Written by Tom Lycos and Stefo Nantsou (Zeal Theatre), it explores the consequences of impulsive risk-taking and the weight of guilt. Using minimalist staging, physical theatre, and epic theatre conventions, the play examines themes of youth, responsibility, and the irreversible effects of a reckless act. Since its 1996 premiere, The Stones has been performed over 2,000 times in more than 30
