DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.
1 Corinthians 4:2 “
As an aspiring interior designer, I believe the profession is defined by so much more than simply creating aesthetically pleasing spaces. The profession bestows me with the responsibility to be a good steward of the earth that God has created and given to his people to dwell in. I aspire to design interiors in which all people are welcome and have the ability to thrive. I feel responsible to ensure that they are safe, functional, and promote inclusivity and wellbeing. Regardless of typology, each design should be tailored to meet the needs of the client, and not be harmful to the earth. In embracing a design philosophy that transcends mere aesthetics, I am committed to crafting interiors that not only welcome all with inclusivity but also prioritize safety, functionality, and environmental stewardship, ensuring each space is a harmonious blend of client needs and ecological responsibility.

A commercial, high-end hospitality project for business professionals traveling to or through Auckland, New Zealand. The project scope included spatial layout of the entire floor plan and full design of select spaces: Reception, Bar & Lounge, Presidential Dining, Member’s suite, and Member’s Apartments.

DESIGN CONCEPT RESEARCH TOPICS
“Haerenga” City Club, located in Auckland, New Zealand, serves as a bridge between traveling business professionals and the cultural heritage of New Zealand. The design was inspiredbyMaoriartandculture, andthespace aims to offer travelers shelter and recuperation before, during, and/or after their business endeavors. The design palette draws from the rich, earthy tones of the land and the iridescent hues of paua shells found in the coastal waters. Traditional motifs inspire the design elements throughout the interior in the form of textiles, accessories, and wayfinding elements. This design is a testament to Auckland’s cultural heritage and offers a luxurious haven where global travelers can find both connection and inspiration in the “City of Sails”, an environment that honors the past while embracingthefuture.
LOCATION
NZ’S NORTH & SOUTH ISLANDS
The islands host nearly every type of environment seen on Earth.
The natural beauty of the islands is a chief point of pride for the country.
CULTURE
THE MĀORI TRIBE - POLYNESIAN DESCENT
Though there is a dark history behind the colonization of NZ, today, Māori culture is celebrated as unique to NZ and honored by all residents.
Tattoos were used as a form of identification - often spiraled designs.

MOTIFS
“TĀONGA” = A treasure that holds spiritual, cultural, or historical significance.
Pāua shell: From the sea. Sea = source of life.
Silver leaf fern: for the Māori, the elegant frond shape stood for strength, stubborn resistance, and enduring power. To the Pākehā (New Zealanders of non-Māori descent), the fern symbolizes their sense of attachment to their homeland.
Koru: spiral of unfurling silver leaf fern frond - new life & beginnings; integral symbol in Māori art, tattoos & carvings.

The main facility/market is where students may come to purchase healthy foods and drinks. One of our main goals was to offer a place where caffeine is NOT encouraged, which is rare to find on any college campus. Instead, our menu serves healthy teas, smoothies, wraps, salads, etc.

Menu options coincide with research providing a variety of energy-boosting, relaxing, stress reducing foods and drinks.
Screens on walls allow students to select food/drink options. Once they complete their purchase & scan their student ID, the cooler doors will unlock.
