All Koga bikes are built by hand at our premises in Heerenveen, The Netherlands. A single technician is responsible for the full assembly of each bike. RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Our starting point when developing new models is always to produce the very best product for the passionate (and high mileage) cyclist. We dedicate much attention to the specification, and carefully select a harmonious set of components. If that isn’t possible with existing components, we develop our own. This gives our bikes their distinctive appearance and stylish look. Less is more!

KOGA FRAME SELECTOR

Koga bases the design of a new carbon frame not only on achieving pure lines, but also on reaching a good rigidity to weight ratio.

The shape and dimension of the individual ‘tubes’ determine the frame’s characteristics. To optimise this shape, the latest FEM (Finite Element Method) computer techniques are employed.

From a single frame mould, frames of different characteristics can be created by varying the particular types of carbon employed.

Carbon is graded according to tensile strength. Very high strength carbon fibre (High Modulus Carbon) permits the manufacture of extremely lightweight frames, because less material is needed.

The combination of carbon fibre types used, the number of layers and the orientation in which they are laid, as well as the resin compound used, all determine the frame’s properties.

When developing a new frame, the importance of different frame characteristics is set according to the intended use of the frame: this includes aspects such as rigidity, weight, strength, comfort, appearance and price. There are standards which every frame must meet regarding both stiffness and strength. Frames may also be finished with an outer layer for appearance, and this also affects strength.

It starts with selection of frame and forks: here Koga offers six options in carbon and aluminium. Each model is also available in several sizes.

And when it comes to the specification we also offer a wide range: Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, Dura-Ace, Ultegra Di2, Ultegra, Shimano 105, SRAM Red 2012 and SRAM Force, and these are also available in various crank formats (double, triple or compact).

And on top of that, you can for example choose from six different wheelsets and four tyre options.

Tapered head tube - the lower headset bearing is of a larger diameter than the top one.

The increased fork shaft diameter ensures more stable handling. The cable stops built into the head tube ensure seamless cable runs without unsightly external stops.

Kimera Road 3K

The Kimera Road 3k was developed for hard riding racing cyclists, with the focus on low weight and optimised rigidity. The carbon frame is derived from Koga’s Kimera track bike: the Olympic bike taken to a new dimension.

Koga is proud to present a completely new concept in cycling: the “F3-Series”. Koga has proven with this concept that performance (Function) and design (Form) can be combined to superb effect. The resulting cycle concept is more than the sum of its parts.

The shape of the frame tubes characterises the F3 with rounded and sharpedged lines being used alternately, accentuated by an ‘understated’ design in matt black with red highlights. Koga’s designers have managed to create a clean cycle concept in which functionality, integration and design are all perfectly balanced. One good example is the cable for the rear light, which runs entirely within the frame and rear rack. The rear mudguard and the carrier rack are also good examples of the comprehensive integration: the mounting points are out of sight, or only barely visible.

The F3’s frame is a striking example of modern, innovative frame design, harmoniously combining rounded and angular forms and stylistic elements. The fine appearance is achieved in no small part thanks to the fully integrated runs for gear, brake and lighting cables, which at the same time protects them from damage.

The F3 series will be available in two versions: one model (2.0) with Shimano Deore components and Shimano V-brakes, and another with luxury specification (5.0) with the new Shimano SLX components combined with Magura HS-11 hydraulic rim brakes.

UNCOMPLICATED Surprisingly simple: the pedal assistance starts working just as soon as you start to pedal. The motor is built into the wheel, and it operates smoothly and silently up to the maximum legally permitted speed of 25 km/h. Higher speeds are possible, for example on downhills or with a tailwind, but not assisted via the drive system.

You can set the desired assistance level very easily using the controls alongside the handgrips – your hands stay safely on the bars. ION models offer the following settings: Eco, Cruise, Tour, Sport and Power.

All Koga e-bikes are fitted with a high resolution display with bright blue backlighting, on which all key information can be read clearly and precisely: speed, distance and battery charge.

The removable display also functions as an immobiliser, making it an excellent theft prevention feature.

MOTOR

Koga uses brushless high torque motors. These motors provide smooth and powerful assistance under all riding conditions. Koga offers a wide range of electric bikes with front, central or rear motors with torque ratings from 28 to 50 Nm. You always have a tailwind with a Koga E-bike!

AUTOMATIC RECHARGE TECHNOLOGY Thanks to Automatic Recharge Technology (ART)1 the battery pack will be recharged whenever no pressure is being exerted on the pedals, for example while braking or going downhill: when you’re riding along, but not pedalling. In this way your electric bike can automatically recover energy, recharging the battery and extending your range. š Not available on all models. See icons on product pages.

BATTERY The battery is one of the most important components on an electric bike.

Koga offers various types of battery packs. You might opt for a removable battery pack which is built into the carrier rack, or a battery (either removable or fixed) built into the frame. This is a matter of taste, and might be influenced by factors including availability of charging facilities, range required, bike weight distribution considerations, and personal preference.

Electric bikes with removable battery packs are very practical when there is no electrical socket near where the bicycle is parked, or for when you want to remove the battery for transport.

RANGE Koga e-bikes are fitted with Li-ion battery packs with a capacity of between 350 and 500 watt-hours. As a rule of thumb, the greater the capacity in watt-hours (‘tank size’), the greater is the range. But the range is also determined by many other factors, including the assistance level selected, riding conditions, ambient temperature, motor efficiency, tyre pressure, rider and luggage weight, and use of the gears.

TIPS TO INCREASE YOUR RANGE: • Ensure that the batteries are fully charged before you set off.

Your battery pack is protected against overcharging, so you should leave the battery connected to the charger whenever possible.

• Try to use the minimum power assist level possible.

• Ensure that the tyres are always inflated to the correct pressure (as specified on the tyre sidewall).

• Select a low gear. In headwinds or on hills, change down through the gears just as you would on a bike without electric assist.

When after years of riding pleasure the battery pack needs to be replaced, the old one will be recycled in a very environmentally responsible process.

SAFETY You are always safe on the road with a Koga e-bike: our bikes are equipped with state of the art innovations in electric bike technology. Sensors in the motor continuously monitor the rotational speed and the force which is applied to the pedals. So there is no risk that the motor will spring into action unexpectedly, and you can safely leave a foot on the pedals while, for example, waiting at a red traffic light. The jerk-free assistance cuts in very smoothly. And because the control buttons are right next to the hand grips, you can operate the e-bike without moving your hands from the handlebar.

COMFORT CRUISE CONTROL Alongside the Standard ride mode, which provides assistance up to a speed of 25 km/h, there is also the Comfort Cruise Control ride mode. This mode provides assistance up to a maximum of 20 km/h, for an even safer ride feel in heavy traffic.

Koga e-bikes are supplied with smart software for Intelligent Traction Control (ITC) to achieve perfect ‘grip’. This means you always have the bike under control. In addition, for models with V-brakes Koga employs Brake Power Control, which helps prevent the front wheel locking up under harsh braking.

LIGHTING SYSTEM

The lighting system is also powered from the battery pack, and if required, it switches on automatically when it gets dark, and also, for example, when you ride through a tunnel. Many Koga e-bikes are also fitted with a daytime running light function for excellent all-day visibility in traffic. Then at dusk, the brightness of the daytime running lights diminishes and a high power LED headlight takes over, providing a superb view of the road ahead. If the battery is empty, the motor works as a dynamo so that you will never be without lights as you ride.

GUARANTEE Customers receive a two-year guarantee as standard from us on specific parts of Koga e-bikes (wear items are excluded) and in addition a lifelong warranty on the frame, as well as a 10 year guarantee on the paintwork. With a Koga e-bike you can be assured that Koga will be able to deliver spare parts for the bike for many years.

The battery pack too has a two year guarantee as standard, irrespective of the number of charge cycles. Koga advises that whenever possible, the bike be connected to the charger: the system is protected against overcharging.

MOTOR AND BATTERY SPECIFICATIONS The Newton metre (Nm) figure indicates the torque of the motor. The battery type: Lithium-ion (Li-ion). The number of Amp hours (Ah) is multiplied by the battery voltage (V) to give the number of watt-hours (Wh) of energy which the battery can deliver.

DAY LIGHT FUNCTION Extra LEDs are fitted which ensure that you’re highly visible in traffic all day long. Then at dusk a high power LED headlight takes over. If the battery is empty, the motor works as a dynamo so that you will never be without lights as you ride.

AUTOMATIC RECHARGE TECHNOLOGY The battery pack will be recharged whenever no pressure is being exerted on the pedals, for example while braking or going downhill when you’re riding along, but not pedalling.

POWER ASSIST Automatic power assist or ‘extra’ power assist, by twisting a ‘throttle’. You can make the electric bike move itself, both forwards and backwards. When riding, the function changes to that of a power boost, a sort of additional tailwind which you might use.

ION SOFTWARE UPDATES We regularly develop Software Updates to make your electric bike with ION Technology safer and more comfortable to use. ION Software Updates let you keep your e-bike always updated to the latest functionality.
