6. Studies on Vacation
On Vacation, I was looking at the masterpieces of Renaissance. And I realized that the masterpieces among other works in Renaissance have clarity in their composition and energy.
About the composition and energy, there can be many examples.
But I apply what I thought to next pictures to show clarity of composition in my mind. Just for fun :) It was from my point of view operating inside of aesthetic intuition.
I thought…
The compositions of masterpieces may be simpler than I had thought. They may be more integrated than I had thought. They may be more strongly consistent in their succession than I had thought. And ultimately I feel that they have their individual center in each piece.

Golden Ratio by Sensation
I wondered that why some people say sound of dropping water drops has its regularity.
Why do I feel masterpieces has its own center?
Why do I feel infinity through the way of division and fragmentation?
Why do I feel the fact that there is relation between composition in music and in painting, and coordinate in math? math as bridge between art and music?
Why do I feel the fact that there is relation between instability with "between and empty space"?
Why do I try to find infinity inside of my painting?
When I kept thinking on these questions, I saw fractal theory, and I could feel that my question is quite related with that theory.
I pondered again about “Concept of Fractal” which is my previous subject two years ago. At that time, I really wanted to know what is “the infinity” inside of drawing. Because I always had made color planes on the canvas and broken them into numerous pieces continuously.
Nowadays, I am thinking that between “Complexity” and “Simplicity”, or the co-existence of these two concepts, there can be “infinity” like concept of numbers in math or compositions in music. Or the “Concept of Fractal”.
And I read from article
1. Golden ratio makes up fractals
2. There is an infinite number in fractal and golden ratio, “1.618”
Let's assume that there is a will in the universe to create beauty, and suppose that when my will of beauty reaches infinity and coincides with the will of the beauty of the universe, a golden ratio is born at that moment.
I cautiously guess… sometimes there is golden ratio and infinity in my composition of painting. At least, although I can’t calculate it, I feel it strongly by intuition.
That intuition has become clearer year by year slowly. I can’t say how much I will be able to understand, but I have had these kinds of interest continuously. Truth inside of art has been my number one interest from my age of 17. And recently, I drew one charcoal work. While drawing this, my thought about golden ratio in my painting and understanding of it has developed so fast.
So, cautiously… I applied golden ratio on photo of my completed works by using computer program.
Infinity 08.19.2022
My abstraction began when I was in my 20s when I didn't come out of the house with bipolar disorder. Night after night I saw a bright hard edge or other abstraction on a blue background screen monitor in a darkened room. Although early American Abstractions had concepts and reasons in the background, I took it purely as a visual aesthetic, and I was obsessed with the beauty of the original colors and the forms of colors that Modernism gave me(especially Malevich, Mondrian) and the infinity that space voids created. I even visually accepted Sol Lewitt's painting, which was representative of conceptualist painting. And it's been a little over a month since I learned what kind of concept his paintings had.
In that way, I was able to accept visual beauty sensitively and mathematically without worrying about the concept of the painting. Meanwhile, I thought abstraction came from a world beyond the world because I felt infinity in Modernist Abstraction. But the source of proportion and balance in my painting was my will to beauty, which coincides with will of beauty of universe and I found that the expression of that will might be the ultimate beauty, similar to the golden ratio. And also, as much beautiful things in nature comes from the golden ratio, Fibonacci sequence, and fractal, and as I've noticed "center" from the Renaissance masterpieces, I realize that composition is produced from this world.
I believe the 2D surface of paper is also infinite stage.
My work is “a play” with void and planes that black color pencil make, like how composition of music finds vacant space between tones, or Jazz that has transformation and variation with unpredictability, I want to play. Because the “key” of golden ratio is “the will of beauty”.
