FOUNDER & CEO

Launched in 2017, The KNOW WomenTM began as a way to bring more attention to dynamic women doing remarkable things in the Phoenix metro. We knew there were an outstanding number of women impacting the community and making big strides in their industries. Our goal was to get those women out from behind their computer screens and into the public eye. Thus, we created the KNOW Book, a carefully curated publication that would feature vision-led women in a glamorous and authentic style. As the momentum grew and we recognized the need for more, we launched our Collaborative around the women featured in our KNOW Book. Our mix & mingles soon ensued and we witnessed incredible things happening. We saw our women doing business with each other, creating friendships, supporting each other, collaborating on projects together, and so much more. What started as a fun project to spotlight women, has turned into a full-blown movement. The KNOW WomenTM has expanded beyond its birthplace of Phoenix, Arizona; its aim is to launch in every major city across the United States and Canada.

The Know Women came into my world when I was just jumping into entrepreneurship. The group showed me the value of connection and community...the opportunity to be a part of the team that brings this book and group together in Edmonton was exciting. Let’s be honest...it was a lot of work. Throw into that a pandemic and people around the world who are struggling to figure out what tomorrow even looks like. The book was supposed to launch in May, but the world had different plans. I am thankful for the group of women who believed alongside me that this was the year to lean in...to come together...to be an active part of a community of movers and shakers!!! The KNOW Women featured in this book represent quality. Each leading the way in what they do everyday and inspire so many around them to be more...to do more. Yes, this is a beautiful book. Yes, this is a catalogue of passionate Edmontonians pushing the needle, but it’s more than that. It’s the coming together of women who are standing up and reaching for the stars. A pandemic won’t stop us. Barriers will NOT stop us...we are building a community that I believe will help each of us along the way. Thank you to each and every woman who took the time out of their busy lives to meet with me and know that this is just the start for The KNOW Women in our city. I look forward to getting to know each of you better and helping you reach for the stars.

JULI WENGER BECOMING OURSELVES

I am an Empowerment and Identity Coach, Podcast Host, Speaker, and Enneagram 2, focused on helping you step out of overwhelm, people pleasing, and perfectionism so that you can live your most powerful, purposeful, and passionate life. The world needs your superpowers, your natural gifts and talents, your light. If you’re not sure how to answer the question “who am I?” or seem to keep having the same challenges over and over, it’s time to cut through all the BS and find the patterns and behaviours that are getting in the way so that you can thank them and let them go. I know you can because I did. After 10 successful years in real estate, I shut down my business and walked away. It didn’t fulfill me anymore. I knew that my fascination with how we are wired, my personal superpowers of nurturing and loving on people, combined with a degree studying how humans interact with their environments and stepping into formal coach training were a powerful combination. One that would help you take your power back, find your fire, learn to trust yourself, and find your purpose. Together, we rise. Together, we create a more empowered and compassionate world. juliwenger.com juli@juliwenger.com @juliwenger

WING CHAN NOMIYA

Wing Chan is the owner for the Nomiya Chain of Restaurants. Wing began her restaurant career at 14 working for her parents in their Chinese restaurant. Her career aspirations didn’t involve the restaurant industry, as she completed a B.Sc. (Genetics) from the University of Alberta and a diploma in Fashion Merchandising in Montreal. When Wing returned to Edmonton, her entrepreneur spirit took over as she opened a restaurant that offered a dish that was unknown at the time. Nomiya Calgary Trail opened in 2010 offering Japanese ramen. Wing had optimized her business by altering the broth for taste and introducing inhouse made noodles (developed with a master chef in Japan). By showing that ramen can succeed in Edmonton, Wing has paved the way for other ramen shops to open in Edmonton. Wing has opened two more Nomiya locations and she hopes to continue to push her business to new horizons. nomiyarestaurant.com @nomiya_yeg info@nomiyarestaurant.com PHOTO CREDIT: JINSEI MEDIA

DR. JODY CARRINGTON

Dr. Jody Carrington has assessed, treated, educated and empowered some of our most vulnerable and precious souls on the planet. She is a child psychologist by trade, but Jody rarely treats kids. The answer lies, she believes, in the people who hold them. Especially when kids have experienced trauma, that’s when they need big people the most. Some of her favourites include educators, parents, first responders, and foster parents. Jody has shifted the way they think and feel about the holy work that they do. Jody started her work at the Alberta Children’s Hospital on the inpatient and day treatment units where she held families with the most difficult stories. They taught her the most important lesson: we are wired to do hard things. SANDY WEATHERALL JINSEI MEDIA

When I was in school, I photographed fresh bread from the local Italian Bakery. The aroma, intensified by the studio lights, drew fellow students to investigate what I was shooting. They hovered, waiting for me to get the shot so they could eat. We shared bread. Grateful, hungry students and friends came together. This is the power of food. My passion is the people and community that food brings. My goal is to help businesses grow and succeed by creating photos that make them stand out, while feeding my passion to create. Food. Community. Creativity.

DEZ MELENKA THE CREATIVE HIVE

I’m a small town Gibbons girl who never stopped talking, dreaming or believing it’s all really possible. I am a Mom, wife, sister and daughter first. I am a journalist, entrepreneur, designer, community builder, storyteller, and daydreamer who can get lost in the imagination of my own thoughts. I co-founded The Creative Hive with one of the most talented videographers I know, Mike Tighe. We transformed a warehouse into a coworking, studio, and event space that entices the creative out of everyone. We are building a strong community. I am learning to share my story alongside others, learning to be a business owner, and learning that asking for help is okay. I love it. I love life. And I love that my family is there with me every step of the way. Now, what my “about” will look like in five years is still being developed...stay tuned.
