Haitian American writer, Edwidge Danticat, is an extraordinary artist of the diaspora whose words serve as paint and brush to illustrate the experiences of Haitians and Haitian Americans of the 20th and 21st centuries. Written as an anecdotal collection of essays, Create Dangerously brings life to the histories of Haitian artists from multiple genres. Through this collection, Danticat focuses on what drives the immigrant artist, including herself, to create. This digital magazine is a living curated resource for teachers to utilize when teaching Create Dangerously. Students can use this magazine to expand their understanding of the book, and the sources in the magazine will assist students in thinking critically about the issues addressed in Danticat’s work.
