Angličtina Angličtina 5 minut denně
Iva Dostálová a James Branam

MISTAKEN IDENTITY
(Part 1)
My fridge was empty, and it looked like this private detective was going to spend his Friday evening hungry. Shortly after ten pm, I walked over to the window to have a look at the street below. Suddenly, I heard a woman’s voice.
“Go away, go away!” the voice screamed.
“Be quiet!” answered a man. ”And don’t say anything else!”
I didn’t see the woman before she walked away. However, the strange man walked into the house across the street.
“Strange, very strange,” I said to myself. This ordinary September evening was turning out to be not so ordinary.
Soon, the man walked out of the house. His hat was pulled down over his face, and he looked around in several directions before he walked away into the night.
Didn’t an old lady live there? I wasn’t completely certain. I was about to leave the window when I spotted a woman coming back to the door of the house. She pulled out a large key ring with many keys, trying several of them before she found the right one. The door opened and then promptly closed behind her.
Shortly thereafter, a light went on in a second storey window, and a few moments later, the front door opened again.
It was the woman again, this time with a small briefcase. She looked worried and didn’t notice that she had dropped something on the pavement. She hurried away. I ran down the stairs and into the street to see what she had lost. It was an address book… and a key ring.
The next day I walked downstairs and out the main door. Then I saw an ambulance and a police car pull up in front of the house across the street.
