Wreaths to honor Veterans

The Uxbridge Polish American Civic Club would like to THAnK everyone for supporting us and our VETERAnS on our recent meat raffle with all proceeds going to Wreaths Across America. We were able to sponsor 172 wreaths to be placed on veterans graves here at St. Mary's Cemetary in Uxbridge on Dec 16th, 2023. We would also like to thank Janice neitz for bringing Wreaths Across America to our town of Uxbridge and for all her hard work and dedication to get this accomplished. The goal is 1,000 wreaths we need 92 more. This is an ongoing mission so anything over 1,000 will go to next year.

Conservation Leaders receive Community Spirit Award

At its June annual meeting the Metacomet Land Trust awarded its Community Spirit Award to two northbridge conservation leaders. The annual special award recognizes those who go above and beyond the ordinary to protect open space and its biodiversity in its 15 community service area.

This year the Trust acknowledged the incredible work and dedication of two persons who were critical to the successful purchase of the 96 acre Castle Hill Farm property. Glenn King, was recognized for his “tireless efforts as Chair of the northbridge Community Preservation Committee” and David Pickart was recognized for his “exceptional efforts as northbridge’s Conservation Agent to preserve and protect Castle Hill Farm”. Each received a plaque in recognition of their steadfast commitment to securing the property for the benefit of the townspeople and the region.

Both continue to work on the project in conjunction with Metacomet Land Trust where the focus is on wildlife conservation and passive recreation. A new trail was recently opened off of Castle Hill Road across from Riley Pond and a stewardship group is being formed. Plans for a small parking area and kiosk are also underway. FMI and a trail map, visit the northbridge Conservation Commission website.

The Metacomet Land Trust preserves over 1,000 acres of open space across 15 communities in south central Massachusetts. FMI about the Trust visit: www.metacometlandtrust.org.
