In this report I will be investigating my future prospects as an employee and creative in the fashion marketing industry. It is tremendously important to analyse and recognise ones strengths and weaknesses, this can help me progress towards future goals and recognise what skills I need to achieve my goals. I will be analysing future goals and opportunities id like to peruse including existing job roles in the market that I believe I am perfect for. Entering the industry after graduating is daunting KS considering the technological advancements and current climate crisis however I am optimistic and excited to be a part of fashions evolution into the future.
Through out my time at university I have learnt the importance of organisation skills in relation to completing work to a high standard. These skills can also be accommodated outside of university in day to day life to help me be as productive as possible. List making and note taking helps over come challenges when I have lots of work to prioritise. I know that these skills will apply when I enter the industry and will allow me to take on multiple projects at once.
I am extremely hard working and motivated to succeed not only my at university but in every day life, making the most of opportunities and experiences that will help me progress in my field of work. I thrive to produce the highest level of work and believe this is a strong part of my personality. I appreciate constructive criticism and really enjoy learning new skills and meeting new people. I will be able to apply all of these attributes when entering the working world.
Prior to joining university I had very basic computing skills. My Computer design skills have tremendously improved, my main focus being adobe programmes. I have acquired in-depth knowledge and skills related to InDesign and Photoshop when creating reports, brand books and research documents at university. Along side skills in adobe xd and illustrator to help create complex design and layout formats. When entering the fashion marketing industry these skills will be used daily to create marketing content and promotional branding.
As previosly stated I am experienced in Adobe however, I would love to improve my skills within the program to a higher level, Focusing mainly on XD. I intend to take part in a Adobe course run by the university at the start of 2023 to become an Adobe certified professional. This will benefit my future work when entering the industry as I will be able to create a high standard of work quickly.
Through out university I’ve learnt a lot about how I as an individual approach projects and what areas ive enjoyed the most and least. Some thing I would like to improve on when moving forward into the industry is risk taking and style development. I feel
I have a strong design style however I would like to be a bit more adventurous when creating layout designs.
Having assessed my strengths and weaknesses I need to assess ways of improving these skills going forward into my career. I will utilise the strong skills and personal quality’s I have In my final major project and into the future ahead.
I currently work at flannels as a store assistant. Flannels is a British multi sale retailer operating 45 stores in the UK. They sell luxury brands such as Balenciaga and Versace. Here I provide a high level of customer service and advice on luxury fashion including styling and industry knowledge. I had the opportunity of speaking to flannels marketing team about their black Friday event 2021. This gave me an in-site into how the company advertises, their stylistic branding and social media channels.
From this job I have gained many transferable skills. The first and most prominent skill from working at flannels is luxury high quality customer service, this massively helped me understand the luxury industry more deeply and how to functions. From sorting out new delivery s, call back items and learning what brands are part of Flannels multi brand store. For example Last year Flannels lost Prada In selected stores due to the exclusivity of the brand. I have increased my confidence working with more expensive products as everything has to be monitored and organised presisly.
I will Graduate university with a 1st class degree in 2023. I want to apply for main intern-ships in a marketing position, learning new skills a and gaining key experience in industry. I strongly value sustainability and high quality clothing therefore my preferred intership would be at a company who mirrors my values.
Over the course of 2023 I will continue to apply for relevant marketing jobs that will add value to my career. Joining the industry through an entry level position such as a marketing assistant will allow me to work my way up to marketing manager in the future.
In 2024 I am planning to move to Australia and work in sydney. I aspire to land a marketing assistant or content creator position. I would love to travel with my job as many companies offer remote work due to the shift in the industry due to the pandemic.
By 2025 I want to have a secure full time job as a marketing assistant with the aim to move up into the industry in the near future preferably at a junior management level. Taking on more responsibility and show casing my full skill set on a professional level, ensuring deadlines are met to a high standard.
In the future after my goals to travel and complete various intern ship and gain maximum experience, I would really love to complete a Graphic design masters. part time running along side my full time job. I believe this will improve my digital skills and design which I can then apply to my marketing work, taking my content to a higher level. I want to be able to adapt into other industry’s such as graphic design, this gives me an advantage when applying for jobs due to my extended skill set. My love of digital and graphic design came from my dad who is a professional and well established graphic designer.
While im at university I work freelance creating websites, branding and instagram content for multiple brands. This has massively expanded my skills in creating websites and using programs such as Wix and square space. Iv gained experience in communicating with clients and creating contracts, experiencing how B2B marketing works. I had the responsibility of running companies instagram feeds creating weekly posts and content to advertise their products and services with the goal of expanding their reach. This is something I wold love to continue in the future when and where I have time.
On my personal instaghram platform I have worked with multiple brands both beauty and fashion as an ambassador. I create regular content on Tiktok and instagram portraying my personal style and interest. This has been insightful when communicating with big brands about influencer and affiliate programs and how they aid marketing by promoting customer incentives to drive traffic to online stores resulting in increased sales.
In this project we had to assess a chosen country in terms of people, profit and planet however relating closely to the fashion industry. Along side a key mention of the UN SDG’s developing goals and how they how they link to the developing industry’s in your chosen country. I chose Denmark as its one of the most advanced sustainability wise. I really enjoyed creating this report and the visual design aspect in relation to the country’s aesthetic and values. I touched on how the Danish fashion industry advertise, Scandinavian influencers, the 3 P’s and the relation to Denmark’s well established society.
This broadened my knowledge of the UNS SDG and how they relate and directly affect industry practise. I also gained experience around creating a report style document as this helps when creating this very report. I think there was a massive step up in my visual design from 1st year and 2nd year at university. I had become more of a perfectionist however alternatively created work at a faster pace. Transferable skills include research skills and referencing, design layout aesthetic and Communication.
Future forecast was a project that I really enjoyed in terms of layout and design. I have a very distinct visual style that is very futuristic and earthy. This future forecast project was the prime opportunity to express this personal style. This project looked into key themes of the future, looking deeply into the structure of pestel and its projection of the future. I then progressed to identify key drivers of future fashion trends and market habits including ‘design for digital’ talking massively about future metaverse development.
‘Collab with nature’ featuring the future prospect of natural materials and technological development to source these materials. And finally ‘the social gap’ highlighting social gap growth that may lead to lack of accessibility and social divide based on assets. I created potential scenarios that could potentially impact the fashion industry such as Infinity influencers which are AI generated influencers used to promote brands through a metaverse world. I then came to a set of conclusions that would aid fashion business development into the future and key changes they can make to strengthen their growth in the year 2050.
IF I were to redesign this project I would have focused on the lay out of certain pages and ensuring the theme is consistant. My digital skills definitely stepped up a level during this project and it allowed my personal branding to fdevelop. My trend forecasting skills clearly highlight my knowledge of the industry and its current state, It also shows that I understand the clear factors that will cause chnages in the industry such as the pandemic and sustainability and why this is important.
Aura was a brand I created for the production of a brand book. My brand book was massively an expression of my personal branding down to the typography and colours. “Aura meaning surrounding and environment, originates from our vision of shaking up the fashion industry, to pioneer transparency. Less is more. We question what is needed to survive, portraying the apocalyptic future that is Upon us if we do not change”. I developed key branding, communication and marketing aspects of Aura during this project. This project massively took my graphic design and visual lay out to a whole new level. I created clear brand guidelines for Aura employees to follow including voice, branding, photographic style, email layout, Logo etc... Physically printing this project was very fulfilling and made me extremely proud of my work.
Brand me is a project I created that was included in my second year on brand module which focused on the development of branding. We started out by teaming up with the fashion design students to create a brand concept and potential collection focusing on key aspects such as brand values and ensuring the garment mirrored these. In breif 2 we took the brand concept and collaborated with a second chosen brand I chose a legendary Camera brand Olympus. To support this collaboration I created a marketing strategy that would aid the final launch. The final part of this on brand module is a self promotional and eprsonal branding concept. This focused on looking at the fashion marketing job market, assessing potential jobs and the market in years to come in relation to what sector I would liek to enter.
I looked at CV anaylsis and adaption for a specific job application, Promotional social channels and a promotional video concept.
The design and branding of the brand me project was very much my own personal style at the time including colours, imagery, brands and concept design. It also massively mirrrored my digital design style, I had just descovered the 911 Porsche font which I have become very fond of and makes a big impact on my personal style. Now I would say my personal and digital style is more refined and compliments my personality and charactoristics. My adobe skills have extremely developed and evolved over the past year due to digital workshops and freelance design which made me think on my feet and create design concepts quickly.
I would really like to take my digital skills a step further by taking part in an adobe certifictaion course along with a potentual masters. I believe this is something that will make me stand out against potential competitors when applying for jobs.
If I were to recreate this project layout wise I would have firstly spread out the text and information to ensure it is clear and easy to read. I woul dhave also researched more jobs and in-depth knowledge on the market as a whole. I could have spread the potential job opportunities out onto seperate pages and broken down the application process to relate my skills to the requirement. I see now how brand me prepared us for this third year project as It allowed me to see how far Ive come and why I need to make certain improvements. The old CV break down is something i really like as it clearly highlights why and how I wanted to improve it. My CV and cover letter at the time was very plain visually and simple techniqually therefore I redesigned it to comply with industry standards.
I redesigned my instagram as a form of per sonal branding and promotion. It featured various pieces of prior work such as a mar keting strategy’s plan showcasing my ca pability to organise and timeline marketing aspects such as social media content and a launch plan. I also added my mock ups from my brand book for aura that showcases my branding and mock up skills along with my social channel cpntent creation. I also men tion influencer marketing, my personal expe rience in the industry an dthe work ive done with other influecers as this is now a vital part of marketing strategy. I showcase my editing and writing skills with content on my jacque mus article. Finally in the centre is my pro motional video.
I loove the idea, colours and concept of this instagram layout however I would definitely improve the over all lay out and presenta tion of each aspect. The elements chosen to showcase I think were perfect for convaying my skills however the over all graphic design needs leveling up by using sharp fonts, com plimentary colours and bold headings.
My promotional video was fast paces and highlighted my key interest, personality traits and experience however I prior to this video had no video editing or composure skills. Its something I have never personally done however I really enjoyed the challenge! I would have made changes to the colour fonts and style of writing and added a few more clips that show cased fashion marketing but over all I wasnt disappointed with what I produced in relation to my skill set at the time. Promotional video are massively important to showcase who you are your personality and work interests. It is a quick and easily assessible resource that employers can access when considering an individual for a job role.
I I really liked how I broke down the shots in my brand me project and clearly showed how the video would flow and why It is mentioning certain aspects. definitely liked the typography aspect of the video it was simple but affective. When I create a future promotional video I will definitely look to improve video quality, typography positioning and relatable content so that the video serves its purpose and is at an improved level relating to mindustry standards.
The length of the video needs to be extended and the aspects explored deeper. It needs to showcase current skills, future amitions career focus and personaility so that employers can get to kn ow me as an individual and consider whether I suit their company and the specific job role.
The UK fashion industry employs 555,000 people and with the development of technology more positions will be created in the near future. I began investigated the fashion market for existing jobs and potential jobs that I aspire to apply to. During my time at university the vast range of modules I completed helped me identify what part of the fashion marketing industry I wanted to dedicate my work to. I am very passionate about social media marketing including conetnt creation, influencer management, campaign work and general social channel management. I also have a strong passion for visual design and the graphic side of marketing therefore Id love to incorporate this into my job.
The fashion industry massively shifted in 2019 to a work from home due to the covid-19 pandemic as a result remote jobs increased by 177% after the pandemic (Allie Decker, 2022).
The job market for social media managers is set to increase my 10% between 2021 and 2031 (U.S. bureao of labour statistics, 8/9/2022). This is a faster rate than average across the whole job sector. Social media marketing is key to a businesses success, increasing exposure and expanding reach to a key demographic that will intern increase sales and revenue to allow the brand to progress into the industry and expand. Social media platforms gain heavily through advertisements, Tiktok pulled in $34.3 Billion through advertising in 2020. The future of fashion marketing is hyper personality, taking advantage of the ability to change promotional copy and image based on an individuals behaviour ( Eva Gutierrez, 18/8/2021).
When searching for jobs I first explored linked-in and the brands that I aim to work for. There were lots of job titles that I would be interested in for example Brand marketing assistant at Revolve. I also found a range of intern-ships that would provide me with key experience when entering the industry. In the next section I will be evaluating the fashion marketing industry and its potential positions.
When specifically looking at social media marketing jobs they all had a required skill set in common including aspects such as the ability to meet deadlines, a bachelors degree in marketing and key knowledge of current knowledge of current marketing principle and trends.
Digital skills were a huge part of the job requirement along side exceptional communication skills. I will ensure all of these skills are clearly shown in my choice of CV and portfolio contents.
To make myself more relatable to the job positions I am interested in I want to focus on graphic design skills to extent my knowledge of adobe software and web design editing so that I can adapt between social media marketing and design. Additionally to make myself stand out when applying for jobs I will be tailoring my CV to highlight all relatable skills and qualifications that fit the requirements, creating a CV that captures the image of the brand will also convay my passion to work for the organisation, my personal design aesthetic and relevant knowledge of the market.

I began looking at potential PR and social media posiitions both based in the UK and international. Im looking for full time and part time work including internships that will further my career. Linkedin allowed me to access jobs at brands that I love. Internships will help build my portfolio and industry experience. I am looking to do at least 3 internships when I leave university along side a graphic design or communications masters. I would like to complete a masters with in 5 years of completing university. I have considered graphic design due to my love for digital design and branding. I believe this would give me extensive adobe and techniqual skills I could thena apply to social media management and conetnt creation. These added skills will also broaden my portfolio extending my skill base and employability into another field of design and marketing.
There is a remote masters in graphic design at falmouth university. I would be looking to complete this part time and have a job along side. As the world become increasingly digitalised I believe graphic design knowledge will give me a boost into the meta media to come. Also extensive knowledge of 3D design will massively relate to social media management when the metaverse is fully developed and AI is a main factor of organisations marketing and sales. It will also create an extensive amount of work that I can add to my portfolio. During the course of this Ma course I will:
• Learn how to develop your own professional graphic design studio.
• Define your own unique voice for your graphic design practice.
• Acquire the skills you need to run a successful design business.
• Gain a world-class MA in Graphic Design while studying flexibly online – when and where it suits you.

I massively enjoy the new streetwear core trend, utilitarian clothing is taking gen z by storm with brands such as arcteryx and palace now dominating and expanding their markets.
@MIAOU
Miaou ia an LA based brand that started as apair of jeans and is now a well established ready to wear brand. The creative director and founder focuses on vintage inspired silhouettes with a 90s flair. Design provoke confidence and they focus on making the wearer feel good. Miaou ahve a strong brand identty that is present in their alternative designs. They focus on creating limited garments that are well made with high quality fabrics, reusing dead stock and donating proceeds to well known gloabll organisations, epealing to the sustainable gaze pf gen z. Weaknesses include afforability however this isnt something taht has affected overall sales and revenue.
Miaou has the opportunity to grow and achieve goals such as extending their size range and focusing on fit and confidence. Potentual threats for miaou could be emerging competitors presenting similar products. Sustainable impacts such as the customer shifting to nessecity.
Here I have compared the job requirements to my personal skills, analysing skills I already have and ones I need to improve.
The job requires overseeing all social activity on emerging and future digital platform, Driving organic growth through marketing strategy. This is something I have experience in. Through personal channels I understand the relevnat key trends and algerithms of social platforms and how to grow following and reach through influencer marketing, ad campaigns and organic growth strategy such as interactive launches and posts.
This will include overseeing paid advertiising and partnerships. Miaou also specifiy that working with the creative director to further develop brand voice. This would also relate to communication of brand voice through targeted campaigns and content that promote miaous values such as inclusivity, empowerment and sustainability. Developing key PR strategy plans to advnace brand identity. This is something I can relate my business stratgy and campaign strategy knowledge Ii have gained during my time at university to showcase Miaous voice to the pres and customers.
“Oversee press, VIP, and influencer relations strategies, globally, with an overall objective of increasing global brand awareness, elevating positioning, driving traffic and sales conversion.” (Miaou,2022). I have key skills to develop these strategy’s gained from personal experience working as an influencer for brands on social channels. I understand the influenecr obligations that have to be fulfilled and how that cntract would work. I have great knowledge of the influencer landscape and which influencers would fit the brand and increases ales. Overseeing pres is something I would be amazing at due to my uderstanding of the print and online press industrys gaze. Keeping Miaou in a positive light that expands reach and pulls the reader in, increasing brand awareness.
In 2022 the customer is the main advertisor due to the rise in fashion bloggers on social channels such as Tiktok. A potential gifting programme to key figures taht are steering the trend cycles consistently is key to intergrating Miaou into the key trends of the future.
Nakd fashion is a woman’s wear brand founded in goteberg sweden. They focus on accessible sustainability, offering chic designs that oppose the fast paced trend cycles and replacing them with staple items with timelss designs. Nakd fashion has key strengths that have al lowed them to grow rapidly into the in dustry. Nakd fashion collaborates wity key social media influencers and icons that are shaping the online trends many seasons in advnace. For example Han nah Schonberg would create her vision of whats to come and nakd fashion will release it to her massive following there fore garenteeing sales. Weaknesses that the organisation may face in future years are potentual rising competitors and the increased focus on accessible sustaina bility being a priority. With the changing outlook of gen z and their fashion func tionality idiology.
However, this may lead to brand adap tions in the future. Due to nakd fashions close work with industry influences the change in buying intention by the con sumer will be more apparent. They can strengthen the link with sustainabili ty and focus advertising on creating a modular and staple waredrobe.
“Maintaining existing bookings, discuss upcoming campaigns, deals and set-ups”. I have exceptional knowledge of the leading social media icons of the time and a clear understanding of why these figures have such a large influence on trend cycles. I am optimistic I could create key campaigns for future seasons with a clear vision of why they would sell and how they create a garenteed audience. Performance analysis and assessing key figures for example reach or iteractions are something I specialise in therefore I would accurately be able to assess the performance of the collaborative efforts of influencers in relation to driving sales, profile visits and website interactions. At universiy I have gained key skills to build socail media marketing strategy’s. Lining up key dates to goals is important in achieving successful campaigns and meeting deadlines. This would help convay structure and highlight short and long term goals.
Through content creation experience with brands such a summer fridays, i have an eye for what locations, lighting, angles and poses create amazing content. Along with great styling advise from my personal scandenavion style and extensive knowledge of key trends, outfit pairings and popular products. “Providing the influencers with collaboration brief and posting guidelines” (Nakd, 2022). Using these skills I can provide briefs and guidelines that help influencers convay Nakd fashions values and aesthetic through content. Ensuring Influencers are creating the required content they are contractually obligated to create. I daily find new talent through social channels in my personal time therefore I know that I could use these kehy identification skills to fine talent that fit to Nakd fashions advertising style. I have extensive knowledge on what content Gen z are viewing and interacting with the most for example tiktok trends that focus on styling and modular garments with multiple ways to wear is a key content trend that is generating millions of views, saves and interactions.
I am an orgaized and proactive individual , who is eagure to learn new thinsg and not afraid to think outside the box. I am a natural problem solver with the drive to meet new people and create new business connections. I have a genuine interest in social media marketing with the motivation to meet key targets and goals in a fast paced environment.
I have exceptional skills in performnace evaluation and anaylitical skills linking to number sand key figures. Through my experience working in luxury fashion retail at Flannels I have great consumer knowledge and can assess customer behaviours that will influence sales and revenue. For these reasons and the extence of my skills related to the requirements I think I would excel into th eindustry with this job creating key connetionc with brands, influencers and industry professionals which will benefit my overall career development.
Swededns fshion market annual revenue is currently $7.46 billion in 2022 and is expected to grow by 5.43% year on year.(Statista, 2022). The scandenavion style revolution is happening. key influencers such as Matilda Djerf and Hannah Schonberg are taking control of trend cycles, creating most wanted collections and working with luxury designer brands. Only 41.3% of swedens influencers are mega influencers but they are changing the fashion landscape ultimatley editing consumer behaviours (hype journal, 2019). This is something I am really passinate about and believe would fit my personal style.
Sweden is changing the focus of fashion using its sustainable influences to emthesis on quality, design and affordability. After I complete my degree I aim to work in Sweden after I gain a couple of years experience in the industry. Sweden holds multiple headquatres for brands such as H&M and Nakd fashion in locations such as Goteberg, both brands that I would love to work at! I feel asthough my design style and previosu work reflects a scandinavian feel and style therefore I can relate to the vision they create through tehir marketing.
One thing i did notice was that the cost of living in Sweden is very high therefore I would have to ensure I have sufficent funds before relocating. The previous application example on page 2.8 to 3.1 is a prime example of why my skills relate closely with swedish brand Nakd fashions values and goals.
Nakd fashion run an intern ship programme that I aim to complete by 2023.
Copenhagen is known as the fashion capital of the nordic region, They have a biannual fashion week focusing on scandinavian design, sustainability and a demographic approach to style. I am determine to work in Copenhagen after gaining a couple years of experience in the industry prior. I am more than happy to relocate there as I belive my personal values of sustainability mirror the nordic way of life and my personal style flows nicely with scandenavian design. The danish capital hosts a multitude of brand headquaters including Acne studios. Citys such as copenhagen inspire my creative flare and motivate me to excel in other aspects of myt work such as social media. I believe I could make great networking connection sin a city due to the high density of companys that opperate there which will aid my progression into the industry.
My aim would be to land a marketing position at Acne studios related to social media or content management. Copenhagen is a very costly place to live therefore renting outside the city or on the out skirts and getting public transport into work would be the viable and most cost efficent option.
I started exploring what marketing internships and jobs are available as of now in Copenhagen. I started my searching relevant inetrnships and I found an opportunity that really appealed to me. Norse project is a Danish clothing company specialising in outerwear who are offering a Pr and marketing intern ship. The main two Responibilities include Communicationing with Pr agency’s and press and assisting edia marketing activities, both something that I would love to progress into!
Then I began scouting for fashion marketing and social media job positions and I cam eacross a Head of digital role at L’oreal Which focus’s on media strategy and growth resulting in ecommerce acceloration. This is very much the category of work id love to experience and also the
Exploring the job marketing using sites ssuch as linkedin was extremely useful as it focused my search on particular brands and industry positions.
From researching potential positions in Pr and social media marketing I have firstly adknowledged that most if not all of these jobs require Managing press folders and image banks, Communication with press partners and PR agencies and Contributing to press and marketing reports. This is something I know realise I need to look into and improve my knowledge of in order to have the correct skills to apply for positions.
Looking into potential internships has shown me that I definitely want to experience working in a nordic country such as copenhagen or goteberg. My further research into those particular locations has also informed me of theobsticals I may face such as the cost of living and launguage barriers however I believe I will over come these aspects in order to further my career journey.
It has brought to light new brands that I would potentially like to work for such as Norse the project who focus on outerwear which is a passiom of mine linking to sustainability and style. Its also positive to know that jobs at my dream organisations are accessible to apply to and through skill comparision my skill set compliments their requirements perfectly!
To gain advice on entering the fashion marketing industry and all the tips I need to know when applying to jobs and marketing myself in the ever growing industry. I interviewed industry professionals that I look up to and gained key insites into their journeys and the stepping stones they took to get to where they are today. Asking questions on what they look for in new employees and how effective self promotion is when applying for jobs. I chose to focus on individuals who work in PR and social media marketing as these are the fields of fashion marketing id like to enter. They are also from brands I’d like to work for potentially in the future.
ME: Hello michelle, lovely to meet you! thank you for agreeing to let me interview you how exciting! So just to tell you a littl ebit about why im conducting interviews. My third year fashion marketing project aims to evalute my own learning journey and create self promotonal material such as a portfolio, website and CV, highlighting my current and future journey into the industry creating a professional identity. And I am interviewing industry professionals that specialise in Social media marketing and PR that I believe I can gain advise an dtips from to help me enter the industry.
MICHELLE: Yeah of course! Okay great!
KIERA: fantastic so my first question is what did you study?
MICHELLE: Yeah so Im origonally from cansis and I went to the university of cazis and I studied journalism and strategic communication and umthen from there I was really interestin working in the fahsion industry but given that I was from cansis I was like okay I need to move to New York or LA to kind of make this happen so my senior year of university I spent probably 30 minutes every morning before class just researching different places whetehr it was like fashion boutique, PR firms or just liek kind of blindly DMing oh wait I dont think the DM feature was even available then I was just researching people and finding their email on the internet and reaching out to introduce myself and say “hey, Im really interested in getting into the fashion industry I would love to have...
an interview with you” and at the time who what where were one of my top places I wanted to work for so I found a connection weirdly enough a connection her name was michelle from cansis aswell and she had connections with Cameron Power the cofounder of Who What Where and we kind of hit it off and she was like if your in LA lets grab coffee. So I was in LA and ended up connecting with her and she could tell how heartful and passionate I was for work for Who What Where potentually workinf there so she set up an interview that week.
SIDE NOTE: Michelle answered my questions before Id even asked them which ws fantatsic and the intereview flowed into one.
MICHELLE: And then from there got the intern ship and ended up moving from canzis to LA with the hopes that the intern ship would work out and that would all be great so then I interend for about three months at the fashion waredrobe closet intern then from there they ended up hiring me so I managed their fashion closet and worked on several of their photo shoots that are head stylist for about a year and a half 2 years then after that I began creating conetngt and writing stories for them and that ended up relly working out because all my storys ended up being the top preforming From there I was an editor and moved into a managing editor role. And then I wa sliek you know Im kind of ready to try find something new I dont know I loved loved Who what where but I was ready to find something...
find something new I dont know I loved loved Who what where but I was ready to find something that was a challenge so I was talking to my friends about that and I feel like the reason I brought this up is because its a big part of manefesting and saying things out loud so I had kind of manefested it and talked baout it with my friends and only a few weeks later I got a dm from Kourtney and her team at Poosh as tehy were launching their website and it didnt have a name yet or any of that, but howard had reached out and wanted a chat about the opportunity becaus tehy were launching the website and he had someone to hea dit up with him so I took phone calls, had several interviews and ended up um moving over to poosh and launched the website withthem about 4 years ago this up and coming april so yeah!
KIERA: That is amazing! Im so jealous wow! My next question is what does you rjob consist of on a day to day basis?
MICHELLE: still work with poosh on a consulting basis um..and other project sthere but day to day it really just depends really poosh was very unique, the team was very small so um managing all of the conetnt that went up on the site and the social platforms um managing the editors under me and you know selecting all of the imagery for the Poosh account and really making sure that everything was um aestehtically on brand for um the page and you know getting alot of approvals. Buiding the processfor the whole team, it was a start up so I kind of built a whole process that would flow for the company which was really exciting and helpfula nd learnt a lot!
KIERA: Thsi is just like my dream job!! Amazing, is there anything you would suggest or advise for an individual entering the industry?
MICHELLE: Um so for you specifically your studyimg fashion marketing what do you want to go into?
KIERA: so I study fashion marketing as a hwole but I would liek to specialise in social media marketing and content management, creating growth stratefys but then I do also really like the PR side of things so I think this module will definitely help me figure out what path I want to take.
MICHELLE: yeah I would say take intern oppurtunitys i know at the beginning its kind of hard becasue as you gainexperience an dstuff you obviosuly need to make money so its hard to like find balence doing some work for free but set your boundries there! Tae internships um also have a presence on social medi a taht proves what you rcapable of! thats really important.
KIERA: Do you think thats something thats important in self promotion and when applying for jobs?
MICHELLE: Yeah for sure if your lookign down the content creation route employers will take a look to see ur social media, I mean it wouldn t make it or break it bu tyou know um It kind of essentially is a digital ressume of your work and what your capable off.
KIERA: I definitely want to create an instagrama nd social presence that showcases my personal branding and skills so that employers can easily see what I have to offer! Amazing thank you somuch for taking part in my intervies, it was fantastic to hear about your career and how you got into the marketing world! END OF INTERVIEW
ME: Hi katie, so lovely to meet you! So my Fmk 320 reprot aims to evalute my own learning journey and create self promotonal material such as a portfolio, website and CV, highlighting my current and future journey into the industry creating a professional identity. As part of this report I wanted to interview some industry professionals that work in social media marketing and Pr as this is the route I would like to follow into the fahsion marketing industry.
Katie: Amzing! Im sure Emma told you I am a prior falmouth fahsion marketiong strudent and I took a year out to gain some work experience. I Started a placemnet at B the agency, By the end of that uear I was still really loving work so I took a risk and left falmouth university and never got to 3rd year unfortunetly however I hope I can help a lot!
Kiera: Im sure you will! So ive got 10 question sto ask you that all link to your journey into the industry. My first question is to just tell me a bit about yourself and your job role
Katie: Im Katie and I am an account directpr a B communication agency. So I am one of the senior team within the beauty division slash wider agency and within my role I head up spme of our big brands so I look after Bondi sands, Morphy, Face halo a fairly big selection. Along side that I work on new business so along side head of business development looking at approaching new brand, developming convocation, pitching for new business, onboarding new brands.
Likewise I work on some of the HR of the team so being the go to for any of the team member if they have an Hr issues, supporting the team with career development so its quite a varied role. And then in my free time I love Tiktok! I love tiktok so much that now I cant watch netflix as my attention span is so short!
Kiera: Fantastic! Did you innitually see yourself oing marketing?
Katie: Yeah I went into the course with a pretty open mind I though I would really like buying and I knew I would also want to work in fashion and then as I developed through the course I actually adknowledged that I really liked public speaking element of it, I really liked presenting to tthe class! We did a marketing plan at university for a brand, coming up with a proposal that covered advertising and influemcer promotion and i just loved it! Ive always ben into bloggers and back when I started watching bloggers at 14 years old like Zoella blog and watching youtube and I guess the more I developed with in marketing i understood the machanics of what I enjoyed. I really enjoyed organisation, we did a fashion revolution module to organise an event and I took over my group and did the whole thing and was devegating to my friends and now I look back its what I do every day. I applied to b agency and really loved the vibe of B and the rest was history and now Im one of the directors.
Katie: The intern ship at B wa sthe best thing I every did and having now been at the agency for 6 years and helping iwth the intern ship program I can prehaps see what I did right as an intern taht maybe not everyone is doing now. Looking at my peirs that I was in my intern ship with and why I was the one that got the job, I think they were all thinking oh you rgoing back to uni your not competition when actually I am. It just taught me so much, more than anything it taught me to just put yourself out there and when you rgoing into an intern ship experience its on you to make a name for yourself and I went into the CEOS office and knocked on the door I could see she was in there and just introduced myself “Hi im katie” and built a relationship with her and now I work alongside her everyday. When youve got thos eoppurtunitys you get out what you get into it.
Kiera: My next question is did you do any work experience and how did this benefit your career? obviously I know you went to B but do you have any tips on work experience and do you think its neccessary?
KIERA: Tell me about yourself?
SARAH: My name is Sarah and I have been running my own marketing and PR agency since 2009.
KIERA: What are the stepping stones of your career and how you entered the industry?
SARAH: I kind of fell into marketing. When I was at school, this wasn’t really spoken about as education focussed on the traditional subjects, but I always remember a particular lesson where we got to design packaging for a soap and had to pitch it and I loved it!
SARAH: I initially joined the employment industry working for a large estate agency undertaking admin duties, but they soon realised I had more potential and moved me into a PR and marketing role. After some time working in-house for this company and then another, I decided to leave whilst on mat leave ands set up my own agency, even though I had never worked in an agency before!
KIERA: What did you study?
SARAH: I really wanted to do economics but my maths grade let me down, so I ended up doing history and visual arts.
KIERA: What job did you see yourself initially doing?
SARAH: I wasn’t really sure, I just kind of fell into the role as mentioned above.
KIERA: Did you do any internships or work experience and did this benefit your career?
SARAH: I was voted in the Vice President of the Students Union and part of my role was to build community relations and this certainly allowed me to flex my creative muscles interms of PR.
KIERA: What does your job consist of on a daily basis
SARAH: Creating and managing the strategic marketing direction of our various clients, making sure we are always recommending the best and most appropriate marketing tactics to achieve the defined objectives.
KIERA: What do they look for in new employees?
SARAH: Right cultural fit and an appetite to love the job there are being hired to do: right person in the right seat.
KIERA: Is there anything you can suggest to make an individual stand out in the industry?
SARAH: Be prepared to go above and beyond and show your passion and willingness to learn. Demonstrate how and why you will be an asset.
To conclude my interviews, I want to highlight key points ive pulled from listening to my interviewers jounreys and advice. It was very interesting listening to the different routes they had taken into the industry, Katie didnt finish university and was offered a job during an intern ship where as Michelle went to university to study communications and worked her way through various positions to get to her position at poosh. Content director is a position I hadnt considered however now will be, My passion is imagery and content direction therefore I believe I woul dfit this role perfectly. On the other hand Pr is also another area I hadnt looked into before however talking to Katie was very insiteful and I learnt an extensive amount on what day to day responsibilities a Pr employees has. It is a massivekly broad positions which I believe would suit me due to my broad stretch of skills and particular intrests with in fashion marketing such as content, graphic design and social media marketing.
We also spoke about influener marketing which is a responsibility which I will most likely be given when entering the industry therefore it was great to hear about the key aspects and katies experience with it.
Sarahs interview allowed me to see that not everyone has prior marketing experience or degrees however It is benefitual to have every qualification I can get to make me stand out to employers. She also mentioned that her biggest challenge has been being taken seriously as a female. I know this is something that has experienced a massive shift in recent years however I know there is still further to go to achieve total gender equality in the work place and I am motivated and raring to work as hard as I can to get to the position i want with no hold backs.
I know that My branding has become strong due to various people including friends, teachers and peope who are close to me telling me they understand what my style is and how it represents me.
I wanted to create a logo that I can use on a promotional website that will make my name both memberable and recognisable. I really love the 911 porscha font, Ive used it in prior work and think it is unique to my personal branding. I will also use this on my promotional video and any other self promotional material such as an instagram account. I feel asthough this logo is modern with a simple clean design that fits perfectly on business cards and has my futuristic style incorperated.
Here is an example of the potential logo on a business card which would also include key contact details, place of work and social links. I like a classy black and white business card with a simple logoo design that is recognisable and
The following chapter will focus on the devel opment of my personal branding where I will create promotional material that can be show cased to potentiall employers when applying for job roles and to create a presence in the indus rty. Through out my evaluational report a clear aesthetic has remained, this aesthetic is my personal style and digital personality. My per sonal style has remained through out all of my professional strategy work and also in most of my prior projects such as my R&D’s and brand book creation. I wanted to create a cohessive group of projects that involve quality work but also show what I can do design wise.
I have found that the process of developing my personal branding as massively improved my etchniqual adobe skill set along the way. My personal branding has been developing for the last 10 years starting with finding my personal style and favourite brands, colours, deisgners and inspiration. University has helped me find and pin point exactly what attributes make up my personal style.
brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room.” The term “branding” used to be reserved for businesses, but with the advent of social sites and the gig economy, personal branding has become fundamental. A personal brand is the unique combination of skills and experiences that make you who you are. It is how you present yourself to the world. Effective personal branding will differentiate you from the competition and allow you to build trust with prospective clients and employers”

(Forbes, Jeff Bezos, 2019)
I experiemneted with a multitude of business card designs. I wanted to include key branding colours such as blue, green and neutrals and other key fac tors such as the 911 Porsche font and the Glitten font style. The final deisgn is shown above, I wanted a design that full represents my personality, style and aura. It is a simple with key contact details on the back. I wanted to focus on what would make an ob server want to pick up my card. Although the back side is white it can be changedand the front side makes up for the simplicity. These aura cirles come in a armge of colours and shades of green, blue and neutral colours therefore It can be easily changed and if stacked may cause a colour flow. I feel ast hough this showcases my graphic design capabilitys and flexible design interests. Furthemore, I have ensured that these business cards align with my overall website deisgn and portfolio as a whole to create consistancy.
I have created a S marketing instagram account to showcase my social media management, branding and communications work. This will be viewed by potential employers. collegues and social media users therefore I have greated a business account with industry stndards posts that have high quality images and descriptive captions. My final major project will be added to this account when it is completed and my website link will be placed in the bio so that the portfolio is easily accessible. My promotional video will also be added to this account and the wbesite to show extra skills relating to video composure, this is a skill i want to improve on. This account needsn to show a clear image of my personal branding using similar designs from this report and my personal logo. Digital portfolios are becoming increasingly important and neccessary due to the excelled rate that technology is developing, soon it will be the first place employers and customers look to create a picture of an individual and their work.
I take a lot of pride in my online presence and my personal profile also reflects my passion for content creation and also massively reflect smy personal style focusing more on imagery.
I have an in-depth knowledge of organic instgram growth and will use key tactics to raise awareness of my professional profile. In the future I will be commited to posting regularly and creating a ramge of conetnt from reels, imagery and storys to communicate with my followers. I am also aiming to improve my digital design skills by completeign an adobe cirtification course focusing on illustrator and photoshop. I can also show case my freelance work on this instgram page offering my web design and branding skills to potential clients.
Having a CV and cover letter with a professional design and industry level content is extremely imoortant as I know its the first document and representation of you that employers view. My CV design is very minimalistic and simple much like my logo and personal design aesthetic. I have included important contact details and a small description of myself to start off. Then I have stated my key experience in relation to a job opportunity and my relatable skill set to the job requirements. I spilt my skills into personal and professional so that employers see my personality and motivstion.
I have designed my cover letter with the same overall design. This will have a written statement about why I am good for a specififc job role, my interest, hobbies and skills. All tailored to the job title.
I have created an example CV and cover letter to apply for an intern ship at NA-KD fashion located in Goteberg Sweeden. Inclusing why I should be their next intern, my relatable skills to the requirements and hwo I would tackle the set responsibilitys. Ive included a small background story of my marketing journey so far and finished with my plans for the futuree.
In 2022 it is an industry standard to have a self promotional package that employer scan view that showcases key skills and previous work. It offers organisations a prime opportunity to see who you are as an individual, with the constant development of social media and technology a social presence is becoming more important.
91% of current employers are using social media during the hiring process. 45% of employers post on social channels to communicate with candidates. (stand out, 2022).
For an individual who also wants to work in social media marketing I need to show my personal social media skills and awareness. For 6 years ive worked with various brands such as boohoo and summer fridays on visual promotional content therefore I am experienced in conent requirement, influenecr marketing and through this I can identify key social trends. I take a hige amount of pride in my social presence showcasing my skills, style and personality to potentual viewers. I have also connected with a lot of social media contacts in relation to marketing which also entends my opportunity chances.
For my promotional website I would love it to be very minimalistic with a key font package and selective colours such as blue green and neutral. This will tie in my report, personal aestehtic and past work to create an overall cohesive promotional package. With my website i can showcase not only my personality but my prior work and freelance design that I have done, exhibiting all of my interests around the fashion industry and marketing. The platform I would like to create my website on is square space as I have prior experience with the program and layout of the website design tools. I did consider wix however I think square space is more suited to my style. I really like the font Glitten, I have used it in prior pieces of work therefore creates a cohesive link between my work.
My fmp will focus on the beauty industry and I want this to also have a relativly similar look to my website also largely inspired by other website such as POOSH. I am a very image based person who convays work in a very visual way therefore my website will feature multiple images. On my about me page I will highlight my key interests, hobbies and personality traits so that the pomtentual employer will get to know me as an individual. Then there will be a clear display of my favourite projects and work pieces ive created in my time at university. My fmp will be added to my promotional website mid 2023 when the project is complete. I would love to include a sketch of myself or a visual design that shows on the home page a long with a large piece of text stating my name. The website will be clear and easy to use and will also be featured in the bio of my social channels and instagram portfolio.
My initual prmotional video ideas include a smooth trasitional video of the skills and work I have to offer to the industry from branding, social media strategy, freelance branding, modeling and content creation. I would like the video to start with a zoomed in shot of my eyes and me sat in a studio. There will be music over the top but also Me introducing myself So that the viewer can hear my voice and get to know me.
I want to highlight that mylove of fashion came from magazines and the reason I focused laregly on marketing was my love of content creation and the inspiration of my dads graphic design career. So A shot of magazines and then me taking content and creating content for other people. I then want to shift the shot over to me sitting at my laptop working and my time at university. I then want to highlight the projects ive worked on and the work ive produced.
@MANGOAfter this I’d love to highlight that I am strongly dedicated to sustainability and this is something that will guide my future career by showing shots of nature and cloth. I dont have massive knowledge of video editing however I am very excited to and eager to learn new techniques and will be focusing on developing these skills over the course of this project.
I found some example shots and ideas that will highlight my key interests and skills. I want it to be a well put together fashion video inspired by clothing adverts with a mellow vibe. I I will be renting a studio to create certain shots with a white background.
A sustainable beauty app that allows the customer to check the sustainable rating of products they already own and ones they wish to purchase. Brands will be able to advertise through the app so that the customer may shop their favourite sustainable skin care. Influenecrs can write their own blog posts and vidoe reviews of products also.
According to Lsn global, Consumers are seeking greater transparency when shopping for beauty products. A recent study from mintel showed that one third of uK skincare shoppers researched product ingreduence befire purchasing.
“We are speeding into the age of the expert. For beauty and wellness, this equates to research, testing, proof points and facts that will foster understanding, trust and positive sentiment among audiences”
Inflated Industry. As the cost of living crisis hits, we expect to see more cautious shopping behaviour this year. with consumer incomes under pressure, many want to know that when they spend on a product or service, they are not only investing in something of quality, but in a company with a positive impact – be it socially or environmentally.
Accelorating ingredience. Amid accusations – and awareness – of both industries negatively affecting the environment, there is a growing requirement for the beauty and wellness sectors to embrace technology to advance ingredient innovation and education. Consumers have evolved more in the past three years than the past 30. The global biotech ingredients market is expected to grow at 9.3% from 2020 to 2027.
Aesthetuc beauty. This also follows a period of Conscious Deceleration brought on by the pandemic, with the chance to re-assess pre-lockdown lifestyles and habits. According to Euromonitor, 50% of global consumers now define beauty as ‘looking healthy’. Consumers are prioritising prevention and protection when it comes to health and beauty.
Sci-fluence. 72% of people in Britain reported a high level of trust in scientists during the pandemic. As the pandemic has brought science into more people’s lives, it is perhaps no surprise that people’s trust in science and scientists has risen so much.
Experts in residence. 72% of consumers report feeling more connected to a brand when employees share information about it online. Seen in practice, direct-to-consumer brand Beauty Pie recently appointed a dermatologist-in-residence, Dr Andrew Markey. Featuring regularly across its content, he unpacks the science behind new product launches in a way that is relatable. Alos seen in the new skin+me launch.
@RIKKY FERNANDESAssured synthetics. beauty brands are seizing the opportunity to re educate consumers on synthetic ingredience. Narratives are changing around sulphates and other ingredients that consumers have shunned based on the view that they are toxic or harmful for people and the planet. propylene glycol has landed itself on consumers banned list after its origins as a fossil fuel petroleum-derived ingredient whihc is harmful to the environment.
This project will allow me to show my branding and digital design skills when creating Nuchii as a brand and will highlight my love of graphic design. The adobe course I aim to complete will aid my skills when creating this app and the function of each page. Creating an app is something I havent done before therefore it will be a new skill to learn and shows an additional skill when going forward into the industry.
Nuchii the app will also be partnered with a marketing strategy’s plan as this is a brand new app it will need a launch and marketing plan. In this marketing plan I Will introduce the brand concept and details such as target market, aims and objectives. I will then focus on tighing in the Pr aspect by creating a lunch plan along with a launch event, timeline, marketing plan and content.
The marketing plan side of the project will highlight my content creation skills and hwo I use this to convay brand message an dvalues. It will also show my knowledge of instgram management focusing on growing exposure through organic growth techniques and working with influencers and various marketing channels.
This is a visual design plan of what the app will look like visually focusing on black, white and neutral earthy tones. The app will provide advertisemnet for sustainable skincare and beauty brands and sales can be made through Nuchii, Nuchii as a business can add a fee for this. Brands iwll provide product information however nuchii will provide extra detail with a sustainable rating, ingredience guidence and a scanning tool so that any product can be given a review by nuchii.
My second idea is a content based app that focuses on location. Users can create an account where they can link their posts from their social channels and the location on a locator map. For safety reasons the app will ask you if yiu are at this location currently and prospone the post till the user has left the area incase the app is miss used. Users can also post outfit details and links to their socials to increase reach. The app will offer content guidence and will have its own content camera feature for users to create the best content possible. It will offer inspiration and social media influencing tips in relation with working with brands, content promoting and key strategy’s to organicly grow their platform.
The aestehtic of the app will be very sweet and pink with a map with key land marks designed and pinpointed. It will allow trend news and key influencers to watch this season. Other features can be added like lifestyle trends and advice such as exercise, healthy eating and beauty advice.
It will focus on helping woman and men live their best lives in the developing social world and fast paces society.
This project will firstly show my technical skills and use of adobe programmes to create the app and digital design. It will also show that I have in-depth knowledge using adobe XD due to the app templates. It highlights my key knowledge of society and the core trend cycles in 2023 and into the future by suggesting tips and tricks for content creation and personal style.
Lifestyle blogging and the it girl lifestyle has such a hold over social media channels and the day to day lives of gen z that the potential for this app is huge. Along side this app I will create a marketing strategy plan that contains key launch time-lines, events and strategy’s. I will also create a full social presence for the app and work on promotional methods to grow the apps reach. To incorporate a Pr aspect of the project I will work with promoters such as influencers an organise brand events, contacting Pr agency’s to create Pr methods such as gift packages. It would also have an online presence through a website therefore this will showcase my web design skills and also help develop new graphic design aspects such as 3D design.
A start up business with a unique and cutting edge style, which focus’s on creating its own genre of clothing based on a strong narrative. Saber focuses on woman’s wear that encourages female empowerment and confidence. The designs take inspiration from the earth around us such as sea animals, plants and textures from surfaces. Its garments are high quality with a high consideration for sustainability and creating staple outfits. Sabers garments are mid priced and collections are released monthly.
However, Saber the brand wont be the main focus of the project. Brand concept will be created but t he marketing strategy’s plan and branding will be the main design project.
The marketing strategy’s plan will include a full launch plan including Pr aspects such as influencer and gifting packages and events. It will also include an in-depth marketing content plan for example image and video social media advertising content along with a full campaign content plan. A time-line will run along side the marketing strategy’s plan to highlight the launch plan efficiency. Other branding aspects will be explored such as an internal brand book that conveys the brand to its new employees. Skill this will showcase include digital skill including adobe software such as adobe Xd. This is commonly used in industry for online content, web design and day to day projects. It will show my knowledge of the industry and current trend cycles and core groups such as ballet core.
@KIERASYLVESTER
To conclude this report I want to consider my next steps and what I need to do to meet my goals and objectives. In relation to what needs to be achieved firstly, I want to focus on my current university work and achieve a 1st class degree when I graduate in summer 2023. I need to consider particular aspects of my final major project to allow the project to run smoothly and for my deas to be convayed correctly.
After I finish my degree and complete the CIM qualification, I want to gain as much industry experience as possible therefore I will be apply to various intern ships focusing mostly on Nordic countries such as Sweden as this is somewhere I want to travel to. I need to contact a range of companys that specialise in PR, social media marketing and branding potentially graphic design. This way I can gain a range of experience so I have choice when It comes to narrowing down further.
To further my design skills I want to complete a masters in the next 5 years part time so that I can expand my skill offerings. I am particularly interested in a graphic design masters at falmouth university.
All of these goals are measurable, I want to complete these goals in the next 3 to 5 years and I have key touch points for example I want to have lots of industry experience by the end of 2024. All of these goals are massively with in my scope as I am motivated to succeed and have the work and contacts to support my entry into the industry. I understand that there is certain layers to my career and smaller goals I need to achieve to reach the next level and I have the patience and drive to do so.
I also want to travel therefore experiencing new work places in various countrys allow me to do this and further my career. My long term goal would be to be in a marketing manager or graphic designer role at a fashion company that I as an individual resonate with. I would bought my own property at this point and will be fully independent. However I understands there are stepping stones to reaching a long term goal.
