GLOBAL 100 | 2017

Welcome to Global 100 – 2019 Welcome to the 2019, Global 100, consisting of the World’s leading firms and individuals, with votes received from our global readers, in over 163 countries worldwide. The purpose of the Global 100 is to provide the readership with a comprehensive understanding of those firms that are truly leaders within their chosen areas of specialisation. The Global 100 does not follow the usual process followed by many others. It follows a very specific, very comprehensive process, not commonly used elsewhere in the industry. Following the closure of the process, which follows a very strict format of self-submission and thirdparty nomination, firms are shortlisted and selected as winners. For each category awarded a proprietary method of analysis ranks winners based on their domestic and international work. This ranking method produces a list of shortlisted firms, based on a very comprehensive set of criteria. Once all votes have been received, a panel of judges review the votes within each category. The judging process assesses the following considerations; The strategic nature of work conducted. The complexity of work conducted. The scale of work conducted. Whether the work conducted was done in a timely manner, and within budget. Any ground-breaking or innovative processes used during completion of conducted work. The judging process focuses strongly on the complexity and strategic significance of work conducted. The above criteria underline’s the importance of the recognition each winner is receiving as a Global 100 winning organisation, firm or individual. In summary, the Global 100 program provides a benchmark of the very best of the best industry leaders, exemplary team’s and distinguished organisations. We would like to extend our congratulations to all the Global 100 – 2019 winners.

Owned by Anita Balletto the Managing Director, A to Z Solutions provides film fixing and facilitation services predominantly to Wildlife Documentary and Reality Show Filmmakers visiting Zambia offering its customers a first class service tailored to their needs and requirements. Anita was born and brought up in Kenya, holds a BSc in Zoology from Leeds University in the UK and has been involved in the safari industry in East and Southern Africa for over 20 years. Living and working in Kenya, Tanzania, and more latterly in Zambia where she has been for the past 10 years Anita has extensive local knowledge and knows and understands the intricacies and nuances of operating in remote and ‘off the grid’ areas. With her extensive experience in the tourism and hospitality industry and a focus on operations and logistics, twinned with her passion for Conservation and the protection of Africa’s wildlife estates, Anita through her company A to Z Solutions is well positioned to assist visiting film

crews with a range of services. In her own capacity Anita sits on a number of Conservation/ Wildlife boards including Conservation Lower Zambezi, and has in the past served on the Abercrombie & Kent Zambia and ZAWA (Zambian Wildlife Authority – now DNPW) Boards. The latter being a ministerial appointment and testament to her passion and commitment to the Zambian Wildlife Estate. With this in mind A to Z Solutions are on the ground, and offer extensive local knowledge and hands on experience. In 2018, A to Z Solutions worked on an extremely powerful and emotionally charged Chinese documentary called, “Encounter”. The idea of the documentary was to use Chinese celebrities with a genuine love for elephants to educate a largely Chinese audience about how elephants are poached and killed for the ivory that is so desired by so many Chinese people. The fact is, many Chinese people do not realise that elephants have to be killed in order to ‘harvest’ their ivory. Many think that tusks fall out and are found lying around in the bush… As such, education through documentaries like this, is a vital part of reducing the poaching epidemic that supplies the Chinese market with ivory. Extraordinarily, the documentary was aired on Tencent, China’s second largest internet movie provider, similar to Netflix, and also broadcast in mainland China, where to date the Zambian episode has been paid for, downloaded and viewed by a staggering 50.5 million people with numbers are growing by the day!

50.5 million people watch a conservation documentary managed by Zambian Film Fixing company, A to Z Solutions The documentary features celebrities Liu Hanya (Aya), a Taiwanese actress and hostess and Xu Xidi (Dee), a Taiwanese television host, actress, and singer. Aya and Dee have an immersive trip to Zambia as volunteers and guests of Game Rangers International (GRI). Aya and Dee are both passionate about wildlife conservation, and elephants in particular. The documentary captures the emotional rollercoaster of their experience which included getting to know rescued baby elephants whose mothers had been killed for ivory, and the grief of being present during the gruesome discovery of an elephant hunted for its ivory. The documentary highlights the fantastic conservation work being done by Game Rangers International and how passionate their team are. You can find out more about Game Rangers International and how you can support their work

here. A to Z Solutions worked closely with the international film crew, the GRI team and coordinated the entire Zambian trip. They ensured all necessary licenses, permits, paperwork and immigration visas were in order ahead of travel. They managed the Press Passes, National Parks (DNPW) Permits for filming in Kafue National Park, Temporary Import Permits (TIP’s) for the equipment that was required, Drone applications with the ZCAA, as well as all accommodation, transport, charter flights, and catering for the team of 38 who traveled to Zambia from China and Taiwan in order to film this groundbreaking documentary. We’re excited to see what A to Z Solutions works on next to help tell Zambia’s story! Find out more about A to Z Solutions on thebestofzambia.com here and on their website here. Asia Mergers and Acquisitions Firm of the Year 2020 – Taiwan

Purposes of Merger and Acquisition: Industrial Transformation and Upgrading Growth of an enterprise is not limited to expansion of production capacity or sales. Transformation and upgrading of an enterprise, such as horizontal merger through strategic alliance or vertical merger, or cutting businesses suffering losses in the enterprise and acquiring departments of other enterprises, is the necessary path for enterprise growth and industrial upgrading or transformation. The commercial purposes which an enterprise expects to achieve through merger and acquisition are referred to as purposes of merger and acquisition. Purposes of merger and acquisition may include the following: in terms of horizontal merger, enterprises should remove their weaknesses in the industry they belong to, increase market share, reduce costs and improve efficiency, so as to form economies of scale and enhance competitiveness; enterprises can consolidate supply sources and develop markets through vertical merger; in split-up, enterprises can solve the conflict and contradiction between the OEM and brand companies or achieve the professional division of labor. In a nutshell, merger and acquisition is a process of “you throwing and me picking, and each taking what it needs”. Through this process of merger and acquisition, different types and levels of

22

Taiwan

channel, market expansion, brand acquisition, key technology or key customers can be obtained. In the past, the motivation of business operators to actively participate in merger and acquisition was not high. However, as time goes by, the concepts of economies of scale, specialization and corporate synergy have emerged, and the mentality of business operators has changed. With the global competition heating up and Mainland China’s rising strongly, it is a trend to expand the business territory by merger and acquisition. Moreover, unsolicited (hostile) takeover has become more popular in recent years. Even if an enterprise wants to stick to its own business territory, it also needs to face the threat of unsolicited (hostile) takeover by domestic and foreign companies. Therefore, enterprises cannot escape passively, but must face actively the oncoming of merger and acquisition. Common defenses against unsolicited (hostile) takeover, such as bringing in a white knight or merging with another enterprise, are also merger and acquisition in their nature, but they are more about defense than growth. In addition, under intense competition, it is common for enterprises to face financial difficulties due to product, technology, market or sales obstacles. In order to survive, the management team has responsibility to seek the best interests for

GLOBAL 100 | 2019

Asia Mergers and Acquisitions Firm of the Year 2020 – Taiwan

all shareholders, while seeking to merge into or be acquired by another enterprise is a common measure and decision. In this case, the strategic needs are different, and the purpose of the merger and acquisition is to extend the life of the enterprise rather than to pursue its growth. Overview of Merger and Acquisition Merger and acquisition is only a means, and a process of achieving specific business purposes of an enterprise, rather than the result. When proceeding with merger and acquisition, the enterprise should first understand its own needs and set a clear purpose for the merger and acquisition strategy. In addition, in the process of merger and acquisition, it is necessary to constantly review the originally set purpose of the merger and acquisition, so as to avoid getting lost in the lengthy process of due diligence, evaluation and negotiation and deviating from the purpose of the merger and acquisition. Enterprises that are good at growing by merger and acquisition can consolidate the foundation by self-growth on one hand, and expand by merger and acquisition on the other hand. At the same time, they can suppress the development of competitors, make good use of the two feet for enterprise growth, and achieve twice the result with half the effort. Of course, not every merger and acquisition case can be called a successful one, but enterprises that are good at growing by merger and acquisition usually face up to the challenges of competition positively and have a better chance of surviving in the global competition than enterprises that stay conservative or avoid merger

and acquisition passively. Finally, merger and acquisition is a process, the end of merger and acquisition period was followed by the integration period. The key for the success of the merger and acquisition is to successfully and painlessly combine an enterprise which was not cultivated by self-growth and has different enterprise culture completely during the golden run-in period after the merger and acquisition and then incorporate it into the existing enterprise. The integration after merger and acquisition actually begins before the merger and acquisition, and the success or failure of the final integration is almost determined when setting the goal of the merger and acquisition and choosing the object of the merger and acquisition. Therefore, the importance of planning, decision-making and management at the early stage of merger and acquisition should not be neglected. The greatest value that professional consultants of merger and acquisition can bring to merger and acquisition case mostly lies at the early stage of merge and acquisition.

A global advisory group with alliance partners and associates located around the world. KK Sharma Mr. KK Sharma, the first Director General (DG) of functional Competition Commission of India (CCI) & its first Head of Merger Control and Antitrust Divisions, is often called ‘Father of Indian Competition Law ’ because of his unique distinction of drafting competition law and regulations for India and overseeing enforcement of this law thereafter. Mr. Sharma not only had investigated landmark cases of competition law violations , in wide sectors, and brought them to fruition but , later on , moving over to the bar , also successfully defended big corporate clients against hefty penalties. Having been the ‘Architect of Indian Merger Review Format’ and steered the very first merger reviews of the competition agency, Mr Sharma has a comprehensive experience, of nearly three decades, in various Government departments , public bodies, including direct tax administration , the CCI and the private sector. A regular invited speaker at international conferences on competition law and other issues, he has been an active member of International Competition Network (ICN) Merger Working Group, Mr Sharma travels around the globe. Prior to having been involved, in a significant manner in the establishment of competition law in India, Mr. Sharma had a scintillating career of more than two decades in the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) of India. During his career in IRS, he initiated many path breaking investigations including an investigation , into cross border money transfers, leading to the collection of more than USD One Billion into the tax net and formation of a new ‘Directorate of International Taxation’. Presently, this new ‘Directorate of International Taxation’ contributes to nearly 20% of the direct tax revenues of Government of India. President of India has appointed him a ‘Special Counsel’ for arguing complex tax matters of Government of India before higher judicial authorities. The procedures, formats, protocols designed by him – either in the IRS, as a Tax Administrator, or Competition Commission of India- survive to this day and form the backbone of the competition law framework & enforcement in India Be it the first few investigation reports or first penalties orders by Antitrust Division or the merger approvals, his stamp is everywhere in the initial footprints of competition law enforcement in India The firm , established by him, has the distinction of succeeding in almost impossible cases where others had given up hopes or had no clue how to proceed. Amongst other cases, a potential penalty of USD 430 million was reduced to a penalty of USD 96 million and eventually reduced to a miniscule USD 0.28 million and to the extent that the Client did not even consider it fit to contest the minimalistic reduced penalty. He is widely consulted by different open knowledge global platforms, on law and consulting, such as Global Legal Group(GLG), Global Legal Experts (GLE) etc and features, in numerous listings, as a leading global authority on competition law. The assignments , from these clients , are mostly complex and unique. As an example, Trade Ministry of Turkey was trying hard to put together a unique global training cum sensitisation programme involving an International Consumer Organisation, a Competition Agency and a top university teaching competition law for the purpose of its entry into EU. This was executed to the satisfaction of the client. The Firm takes pride in the fact that, in addition to being considered as the frontrunner in the core areas of Competition and Tax Laws, it has also been assisting its clients in other areas of law, as and when required. The fact of Mr. Sharma , having headed almost all the verticals in the formative years of the Indian competition agency , being the person whose stamp on the enforcement and practice of competition law in India is quite substantial brings an added edge in matters of competition law being dealt with by the Firm. To mention a few clients , from wide range of clientele, the Firm has served The Government of Turkey, Belgium Chamber of Commerce, Reliance Industries Limited, Pharma Giants, leading Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), Port Regulatory Bodies and various Industry Associations. Europe Europe CEO of the Year - 2019 - David Reid, Birtenshaw

ABOUT DAVID REID

David Reid is the Chief Executive of Birtenshaw, a company that provides a unique range of services for children and young adults with special educational needs and disability. Birtenshaw operates as a social enterprise – while they are a profit-making organisation, the majority of their profit is reinvested for growth. Although the organisation was founded in 1956, it was technically bankrupt when David became CEO in 2006. When he took over, it had a maximum of 6 months left of life. If he had not made difficult decisions to restructure the business, changing contracts and the way that they sold their services the company would have folded. After six years of hard work, the business started to turn around and since 2012 has seen growth of circa 400%

My proudest moments at Birtenshaw in recent years.

I am absolutely delighted about a number of things that our company has achieved, and the difference we have made in the lives of so many young people. I am delighted to be the person in a privileged position where I am able to employ so many incredible people, who can in turn help hundreds of children with special education needs and disability. I am happiest about the recent opening of a brandnew special needs school in Liverpool which is a partnership arrangement with the City of Liverpool Council: the only partnership of this type in the UK. Although the school is at the start of its second year it has reached targets predicated for year 5. We’re pleased to be able to support so many families across the Liverpool City Region, however this also demonstrates how great the need is for our services. We plan further developments across Merseyside in the near future. A significant number of staff across the organisation have won various awards, such as education staff, care and support staff. All have taken on the task of contributing to the success of the company and, as a result, have been rewarded for their work, some of

UK

which has been on a national level. It’s wonderful that they have got this level of recognition for their dedication and hard work.

My main objective for Birtenshaw

To continue transforming the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of young people, and to meet the demand for the current supply of quality services. We need to develop our services as quickly as possible in order to provide more services in other regions of the UK and, ultimately, have a complete UK footprint so that we are able to reach and support every disabled child or young person who needs our service.

Firm Profile

Birtenshaw was established in Bromley Cross, Bolton in 1956. Birtenshaw provides a creative and dynamic range of Care and Education services for children and young adults with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND). Through Birtenshaw Special Schools (in Bolton and Merseyside), Birtenshaw College in Bolton and our numerous care services we provide education and care or children and young people with severe learning disability and / or Autistic Spectrum Conditions, significant physical impairment and complex health needs. Our care services include several children’s homes, one of which is a short break centre, a domiciliary care agency, an enrichment service, supported tenancies and a sports and activities department. Our aim is to transform the quality of life of the people we support so that they may lead independent, fulfilling lives. Our mission is Brightening Lives: Building Futures for individuals with Special Education Needs and Disability in Bolton, across the North West and beyond.

Europe Pharmaceutical Law Firm of the Year – Romania Patent Law Firm of the Year – Romania

Romania

Please give a brief description of your firm and the services it provides. Areas of practice: • In Romania: i) assistance and representation of clients in respect to acquiring IP rights in Patents, Trademarks, Designs including oppositions, appeals; ii) Court proceedings for cancellation and for enforcement of the IP rights: • In Europe: i) Filing and prosecuting European Patents including related oppositions and appeals; ii) Filing and prosecuting European Trademarks and Designs, including related oppositions and appeals

absence of complete information. One thing is for sure: customs authorities are very active and destruction of infringing goods functions well. What extra complexities are involved in establishing and enforcing IP and trademark rights on a cross-border scale? What can your firm do to assist in overcoming these challenges? Cross-border enforcing is difficult particularly when one of the countries is outside EU. So far we worked only in cooperation with similar IP firms from EU countries in some cross-border cases, with no particular difficulties.

Please outline the scope of trademark law in your jurisdiction. How does the legislation differ to that of neighbouring jurisdictions? Trademarks Law is fully harmonized with current laws of other EU countries. It will be amended until 2019 according to the Harmonization Directive.

Are there any new pieces of legislation / updates / new trends, in relation to trademark law in your jurisdiction, on the horizon? How might these affect your work in these areas? Trademarks Law must be amended to comply with the new Harmonization Directive. On this occasion many other issues need to be addressed. In my capacity of President of Romanian Chamber of Patent Attorneys I am fully involved in the process of amending the law by leading a working group of the attorneys and doing our best to work together with the Patent Office (the institution in charge with the draft of amendments).

Please outline the work your firm does and the ways in which you distinguish yourself from your peer firms in the provision of trademark law advice. Perhaps provide a recent case study demonstrating your expertise. Our competitive edge stems from quality of the services. This is acquired by combining elements such as: pro-active approach whenever possible; high level of attention given to each case (customized advice); work in a team for complex cases. For clients with portfolios where we are asked to provide advice as to the new rights, we make complex analysis of the possibilities in connection with Client’s commercial interests and budget. Recent example: We acted on behalf of the opponent CROCO SRL, who filed an opposition on the date of 17 December 2016 against some of the goods of European Union trade mark application No 013 200 266 MISS CROCO, namely against all the goods in Class 30 based on earlier trademarks CROCO widely used in many EU countries, where the opponent also acquired reputation. The decision of the opposition division was in favour of the opponent, considering that there is likelihood of confustion including risk of association with earlier marks. Intellectual property is one of a company’s main assets. How conscious are companies about safeguarding their trademarks in your jurisdiction? To what extent do approaches to trademark protection vary across different industries? Romanian branches of international companies (e.g. GSK, SIEMENS) have little work in this area, as IP is mainly dealt by the mother company, usually limited to detect cases of infringement. Companies with Romanian capital act in a different manner. Some of them, the oldest and the larges, are conscious about the need to protect IP, whereas new and usually smaller ones, sometimes ignore completely the need to protect until one day they are sued for infringement. IP/trademark crime is a serious problem that needs to be dealt with effectively. What is the scale of the problem in your jurisdiction, and what actions have been taken to tackle it? Difficult to estimate the scale of trademark crime in the

Does your firm’s expertise give you a distinct advantage when working on an international playing field? Yes, our firm is known for two decades for its quality, and myself as well. I am particularly known in Europe. What are your objectives for the coming 12 months? We combine the experience of our professionals to advise shareholders of private companies on weighing up alternative exit strategies: trade sale, buy out or IPO. Based on your business plan, we advise on financing structures and prepare information materials. We will solicit offers from suitable sources and manage the negotiation process. Securing optimal terms from the most appropriate financing partners is our goal. The process of raising money is always time-consuming and can be especially daunting for entrepreneurs. Camden aims to ensure that the relationship between the management and its long-term financing partners remains productive. Balanced long term relationships are what we strive to deliver. SECONDARY ISSUES Whether a secondary fundraising is planned in order to fund an acquisition, provide greater working capital for organic expansion or to reduce debt, we will try to identify good quality, long-term investors to support the issue. Our recognized experience in placings, and rights issues means we are well placed to advise and ensure funds are raised from the highest quality investors. PRIVATE EQUITY Camden has advised on more than 10 transactions involving private equity investors across Europe since 2006. MINING ADVISORY SERVICES Increased demand for resources globally has prompted a new wave of investment in mining, particularly in resource-rich Africa. The mining and metals industries face many challenges. They must be adequately managed to deal with volatile commodity prices, fluctuating currencies, new technologies, operating and capital cost pressures. A broad range of funding alternatives must address environmental pressures, constantly changing political and strategic options. Camden’s mining and metals finance and advisory team based in London, are uniquely positioned to assist and advise clients in securing financing in mining-related transactions. INTERNET & E-COMMERCE The internet is the biggest revolution in industrial history, and its commercial impact is immense. Camden views e-Commerce as a powerful and dynamic sector, with key players becoming increasingly profitable. Smaller and more innovative businesses are now acquisition targets and the growing profitability of e-Commerce and Internet businesses makes the sector more attractive for leveraged buy-outs and private equity. As a consequence, we expect this sector to be the scene of high levels of M&A activity. OUR EXPERTISE Internet & e-Commerce business models are highly differentiate. In addition, technological evolution is extremely rapid and often ‘game changing’. Camden’s dedicated team has been active in this sector since its inception and consequently has a detailed understanding of the market dynamics – essential knowledge for an advisor in this area. Our long-standing experience has resulted in the development of strong relationships with some of Europe’s key players, investors and potential buyers.. HEALTHCARE & BIOTECH Many issues continue to face the healthcare sector, offering opportunities as well as potential pitfalls for investors. Healthcare provision will always be subject to political considerations, while regulatory and structural reform can present serious challenges. The financial turmoil of the last few years will constrain healthcare expenditure. This, in turn, will drive private sector involvement into areas once considered the sole preserve of the public sector and fuel a wave of consolidation. RETAIL Always dynamic and high profile, the retail sector is constantly evolving in keeping with changing consumer trends. Retailers worldwide are having to adapt their business models in response to the rapid growth of the internet. Multi-channel retailing and brand and estate optimization are set to be key drivers of change in the sector in the years to come. Camden is focused on developing strong, long-term relationships across the sector. Our relationships range from individual entrepreneurs to private equity-backed brands. We provide access to international investors and buyers across Europe. REAL ESTATE Camden acts as a capital placement and real estate finance advisory firm. Europe Vojtech Smejkal COO of the Year Leadership Original Concept s.r.o

Czech Republic

Leadership Original Concept is a Unique European Training Company which provides over 10 years Leadership Training across Europe and EMEA. Warrior Leadership Program is one of the most unique and revolutionary 2019 program on European market combining mental health, physical strength and weightlifting i.e. fitness. Vojtech Smejkal, current COO of the company brought the most innovative way of a new generation of leadership skills – combining mental power and strength with physical power and strength. To be a good leader you need to have a certain amount of energy – not only in your brain but as well in your muscles! This is the new way of “Thinking Leadership and Re-thinking leadership BIG” The standard “personal development field” contains all sorts of “soft skills” and “boring skills” programs for companies and entrepreneurs but none of them is a complex combination of – Mind and Emotional strength, Wellness Food Management, physical strength and positivity. “LIFE IS NOT GOING TO BE EASIER UNLESS YOU BECOME STRONGER” Jarmila Katharine, who draws on over 17 year’ personal experience in the international business including six Olympic seasons with national sport representatives (from London 2012 to Rio 2016), and training field, outlines the Warrior Leadership Program by her own experience: “When Vojtech joined our company it was a fresh air and innovation star and I was the first one who decided to be a leading role model of the whole new Warrior Program. And the results for me – as expert on psychical strength and mental couch for the Olympic team – were stunning! “I thought I was already fit and Healthy and a high quality leader but once I got into Vojtech´s Warrior Leadership Program I was both shocked and surprised at the end. Wellness Food Management was something very new. I had a history of various “diets” programs which I hated and which normally lead into “low energy” and “low self-esteem” with not a permanent result. Here I experienced the very opposite – my energy was getting higher, my body strength and fitness was getting to a level I did not think was possible and with that my business results and my emotional balance. I suddenly understood why “standard leadership programs” which work only on Mind not body and soul level do not have and cannot have permanent results. I remembered how many time I got into a “bling point” as I was able to focus only on one part of the whole Leadership Picture. NOW - I not only understand but fully experienced the full new level of BEING A LEADER.

Warrior Leadership Program is currently filling so much needed GAP on the marked for those companies and individuals who are looking for a long term good results and good working and living conditions. We offer individual approach to each VIP client in English Language; we are able to work with remote tools such as skype, audio podcasts, and consultations. You do not have to be a weightlifter to start with us – you only need to have 100% inner will and commitment to a change! We can start with you from any level of physical and mental condition. ¨We invite our clients to come and spend with us few days in Prague, the most beautiful city in the heart of Europe to with start intensive “Recharge and Restart” program. We follow with them via phone, skype and other modern communication technology. We as well are happy to travel around Europe and enjoy meeting our clients. Intensive or Core Warrior Leadership Programmes are is as well offered for corporates and large companies, medium companies and entrepreneurs; for sport teams and Olympians and certified Warrior Leadership Trainings for Leaders who want to extend their skills and experience new and unique Art of Leadership POWER both in private and business life. We have currently more VIP clients who are willing to invest into their future on their own terms rather than waiting for their boss or HR department to pay for such training. Here we are happy the responsibility for our lives has been slightly shifting but still we feel most people is waiting for the urgent call – which can be late one!!! We are the most valuable source we have in life but still we are hesitating to really invest into our stability and energy in a long term run. If we want to be fit, healthy and fulfilled at the age of 70 or 80 we need to start investing in our 35 latest 40th. This would be our ideal perception. We as well support entrepreneurs on the journey from a small vision to Global concepts or with a personal transformation from a “Corporate manager” to successful company owners. We are always happy to support talented sport representatives in their way to Olympic and further in their way to success after Olympic life. WE RISE BY LIFTING OTHERS “We all deserve a good and healthy life – which is attainable only if we know how to effectively relax, renew, recharge and keep going strong This is what our “Warrior Leadership Programs” are for. Being STRONG not for a moment but for a lifetime is the biggest shift in the quality of life and LOVE in our life we can do not only for ourselves as well for our children, families and business. We love this big shift in our clients when they start then see them with a bright new energy, new vision with full of “drive and joy”, new goals and new life written on a paper and enthusiasm to execute and proceed. Europe Best Security Solutions Provider of the Year Abbey Petkar - Magenta Security - Best Managing Director of the Year

UK

Magenta, Transforming the security industry Magenta, winner of the Best Managing Director of the Year 2019 – UK and Best Security Solutions Provider of the Year 2019 - UK awards, talk to us about how they are changing and modernising the security industry. Abbey Petkar, Managing Director of Magenta Security, founded the company almost twenty-five years ago after feeling frustrated by the sheer lack of professionalism and transparency in the industry. With ten years of prior experience, Petkar wished to set up a company that would change the reputation and the mistreatment of employees within the security sector. Starting with only one employee and one contract, Petkar has completely transformed the business over the years meaning their portfolio of clients now includes a range of national accounts for blue-chip companies across the UK. Magenta Security offer a wide range of services including security officers, mobile patrols and associated security services including: electronic security and bespoke security solutions. They also hold an ACS accreditation for security guarding and keyholding services. Magenta has grown 20% year on year by retaining existing customers and by delivering new high-quality services. Their client retention continues to be one of the highest in the industry as more than 97% of clients remain with Magenta for a minimum of three years. To further demonstrate Magenta’s commitment to customer care, they are the only security company in Europe to offer a money-back guarantee. This shows they are industry leading in their procedures and confident in delivering service to the highest standard. One of Magenta’s biggest selling points is that they are very CSR focused. A recent survey amongst Magenta’s customers showed that 85% of participants saw CSR as an important issue and would much rather work with a CSR focused supplier. These survey results significantly reinforced Petkar’s beliefs, improved how he ran Magenta and helped to build a comprehensive CSR strategy which now plays a vital role in the business. Petkar’s focus on the understanding and importance of climate change and environmental issues has in turn meant Magenta’s carbon footprint has reduced to zero. The result is that customers specifically request to work with them as a security supplier that adheres to the highest level of environmental accreditations. Since identifying the need and importance of sustainability, Petkar has managed to implement many green solutions for the business. One of the most significant changes to Magenta was the installation of solar panels at the head office, meaning any excess power now gets sent back to the grid. These solar panels are also used to generate power to the multiple electric vehicle charging points on their site where all of Magenta’s hybrid vehicles are kept. Petkar has recently invested £25,000 in digital systems to

create a paperless office which will be saving more than 150 trees every year. These large changes and investments have resulted in the Energy Performance Certificate on Magenta’s office achieving a B rating as they work towards an A. As well as being an environmentally friendly company, Magenta is also very active in humanitarian projects with Petkar devoting a lot of his time and finances to nonbusiness-related activities. Petkar strongly believes in the importance of education and helping the less fortunate. Magenta sponsors twenty children around the world from the age of three upwards to help support them through education, health and welfare needs. His people priorities extend outside the company as well. Their charitable initiatives have helped vulnerable children in the UK and beyond find health and happiness, and they do their part in leaving a better world through their commitment to the environment and carbon neutrality. Not only has Petkar managed an ecological, charitable and successful business but he has also created a great environment to work in. Over the last ten years, Magenta has had a staff turnover of just 9.7% and during the past year they have seen no significant changes to the management staff make up. These figures are well below the national average and demonstrate the hard work Petkar and his team have put into the business to make staff happy. They attribute such a high retention level to the amount of training, motivation and benefits they give their employees. Some members of staff have even been with Petkar since the very beginning in 1995. Magenta’s employees are incentivised with the many schemes that the company has to offer, including gift vouchers and discounts with electrical companies, mobile phone providers and travel agents. Magenta provide a vast amount of training for their employees; their latest initiatives have included Fire Safety and First Aid training for all front-line staff as well as other more specific training, so they are well informed in case of an emergency. Magenta’s staff receive ongoing training so that they are proficient in customer service skills and experts in their field, meaning they can adapt to any situation and deliver appropriate service for the varying clients. Petkar and Magenta are deserving of these awards due to their commitment and passion for improving and transforming the security industry whilst continuously raising awareness about sustainability and humanitarianism. Petkar wishes to eventually set up a charity to help the underprivileged and to continue to watch the industry thrive and develop over the coming years.

Europe Dr John Douse - Best for Forensic Science 2019

UK

OGT

Lawy

Forensic Ltd We are a unique niche provider of Forensic Services in the UK, undertaking a limited number of highly specialist cases each year (circa 25), devoting the time needed to fully investigate each case, and including as thorough as possible analysis, consideration, and integration of both the forensic and also the circumstantial evidence. We take an intense pride, during such a time of uncertainty in the adequate provision of forensic services in the UK, in ensuring that all aspects of each case are fully investigated; even if this requires us to carry out additional pro bono investigations when private or public funds are unable to fully meet the demands of such a painstaking approach (not infrequently 100 hours of requested work having to be “written off due to the LAA or private individuals simply not being able to provide finance). Our ability to lead in the interpretation of forensic evidence (continuously innovating and introducing new and highly effective avenues of approach, analysis, and investigation) is especially appreciated by Defence Lawyers and Barristers, Insurance Companies, Prominent International Businesses, and also Private Individuals; who are otherwise faced with the alternative access to only the briefest consideration of their cases by the cheapest, poorly qualified, alternatives. Our innovations in the interpretation of forensic evidence arise as a result of a varied and prolonged, often pioneering forensic experience (34 years as a Forensic Scientist and 41 years total scientific experience). This experience includes a, perhaps, unusual combination of forensic casework experience augmented by having pioneered, researched and developed the basis of many of the major forensic trace analytical and quality control techniques in use today worldwide. Our experience also includes, critically, the pioneering first introduction of the techniques and protocols of clean room technology and quality control (1990 at the Forensic Explosives Laboratory) now the mainstay of Forensic Quality Control worldwide.

42

Even more unusually, in the field of explosives, practical training was gained (and also the ability to instruct others in) the techniques of Special Forces Demolitions, involving the trialling, testing and deploying of improvised and military, explosive and incendiary, mixtures and devices, often culled from official and unofficial instruction manuals. As a result of this varied experience we operate highly effectively in the fields of explosives (all areas), toxicology (including Insulin, Ricin, thallium, and CW agents), drugs (chemistry, synthesis, purity), DNA, firearms residues, sexual offences, (significance of traces), and a wide range of other applications in forensic chemistry (laboratories, counterfeits etc). Our approaches, not infrequently, result in even the most experienced, opposition experts having to concur with the defence opinion, due to the presentation of the most up to date research results, (some of which may just have been published only days before the completion of the defence report, as in a firearms residue case in 2018) (presence of tin in shotgun residue)) and also the avoidance of the use of subjective opinion.

yer monthly magazine expert awards: 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019. The sheer amount of time that we can devote to each case is often the game changer in many cases, and not infrequently allows us to prevail, due simply to our ability to detect and observe facets of evidence that have simply been overlooked (eg intensive inspection of training videos, augmented by our expertise in recognising the critical technical details, eg in a case involving preparation of ricin). Multi-Disciplinary Forensic Experience is also one of the mainstays of our expertise, and arises as a result of having pioneered and introduced the basis of the analytical techniques and quality control methods still used worldwide in a variety of forensic areas. The process of familiarisation and study of such areas has enabled us to provide new techniques, insights and approaches to the study of a variety of forensic expertise fields, the common thread being trace analysis combined with practical experience of the subjects being investigated. The ability to carry out detailed and highly effective forensic investigations into a variety of the most complex cases, which may often initially appear to be outside of our core expertise, but which often turn out to have a basis in chemistry (the basic and most fundamental specialism required for forensic work); coupled with referring critical aspects to other experts in a range of specialisms, as necessary, for them to focus on individual aspects of the case that might otherwise have remained unrevealed, is yet another game changer.

This experience has resulted in our involvement in the investigations into (among other cases) the Cyprus Poison Gas Extortion Case (Sarin and VX), Lybian Embassy Seige shootings, Lockerbie (Pan Am 103), Liquid Explosive Bomb Plot, London Glasgow Bombings, Wood Green Ricin Factory, Shakespeare Ellis “Drive-By Shootings, Leeds Insulin Serial Killings, Roxel Rocket Motors UK v HSE, Private International Thallium Poisoning Case, etc etc).

A more complete listing of our achievements in individual cases and also the comments by instructing solicitors and barristers regarding our performance can be found on our website @forensic-expert.org.

Biometrics

*PFS Developers predict that a future with “Biometrics first - PIN second” is fast approaching* One of the most enjoyable aspects of Financial Technology is being surrounded by innovative tech. PFS offers smartphone Fingerprint Authentication in Apps that it supports. It is currently involved in Facial Recognition R&D to enhance the payments industry for leading FinTechs. PFS is a Mastercard Principal Member, Preferred Partner in Prepaid, Prepaid Card Issuer, Programme Manager and Certified Acquirer. The team is excited about the potential that a Biometriccentric world holds.

Benefits of Biometrics

Enhanced security as individual biometric signatures cannot be hacked in the same way as passwords. Accurate verification process - no one else can pretend to be you. Always with you, unlike passwords. You do not have to worry about remembering your password.

Predictions about Biometrics

Biometrics is going mainstream in the payments industry via Mastercard. Biometric-enabled wearables - clothing, gadgets, keys, will become far more popular. Expect to see more FinTech-led pilot schemes as biometric adoption accelerates.

Hiring

What are your thoughts on the current war for talent? The dynamics of the talent war are changing. Where salary once was the key attraction, now it is a range of attractions – the number of holidays, working from home, the total benefits package, the REAL culture of the organisation – will an employee WANT to work with you/us. We have just moved into our brand new office in Ireland and have a large number of vacancies on the careers pages of our website across the company in the UK, Ireland and Malta. How much of a concern is employee retention currently? The overall talent pool is not as deep as we would like, so attracting, and crucially, retaining talent is always at the forefront of our thinking, but not a concern.

UK

What is your company doing to retain employees (do you have any special methods in place)? We are looking at our overall benefits and assessing where we can sharpen our offering. Our performance management system has been developed to cover key strategic areas: Salary, Retention, Learning and Development and Retention Planning. Our PM process will provide us with the type of employee feedback and performance review that enables us to target areas where we are strong but also where we can improve and enhance the employee offering. How important is company purpose to employee retention? Crucial to be a real player, at the front of the ‘pack,’ the company purpose and employee retention MUST be aligned – WE MUST share the same goals and ambitions. How can a company properly articulate and share its company purpose? How can they get employees excited about the company mission? This is achieved through a myriad of ways: Town Hall meetings, company updates, the way we look after and manage our people – do we really walk the talk – when you do, you attract the best and they want to stay. Informal team meetings, there is no one method - it is a combination of the formal, the informal, the culture, how we manage, how we work together - it is almost like a jigsaw puzzle when the pieces fit you become unstoppable. Learn what you can do with a prepaid card Prepaid card solutions can be used across a wide range of sectors which include payroll, expense management, travel, money share, insurance, gaming and online shopping amongst others, with reduced exposure to fraud in a safe and secure environment. This provides customers with peace of mind, convenience and an altogether better value for money proposition.

5 great reasons to choose prepaid

No Credit Checks No credit checks or bank account required. Instant online approval. Top up Networks Cards can be loaded at select stores and Post Offices. Protect your identity when shopping online Cards are widely accepted across the internet. Cards can be issued via both Mastercard and VISA which are universally accepted. Manage your money effectively Prepaid cards do not get you into debt, as you can only spend up to the balance loaded onto your card. Send money to friends and family overseas instantly Prepaid cards are seen as a much more affordable option compared to international money sharing. Secondary cards can be given to family members abroad and reloaded for instant use.

Scaling an already fast-growing enterprise

The most daunting challenge PFS faced over the years was scaling the business without investment. It is not an easy road to take but it is the only one that made the most sense on the journey. It was tough and there were many obstacles but the business emerged stronger for it and the business is 95% owned by the employees. All staff have a shareholding in PFS. Now, the company continues to thrive in the payments, prepaid, and FinTech spaces.

Tips to Share with Dreamers

For starters, ensure you have solid control over services outsourced and then build them in-house as quickly as possible. Apply for regulation/certifications/accreditation from Day 1. By far, your most important asset at the beginning is having a product or service that is badly needed. This, in turn, creates the instant demand and start-up traction you require to get you off the ground. Contact: Company: Email:

Skin luminosity – it makes skin recover the lost luminosity over the years. Patients that have gone through this innovative treatment achieve a higher luster of the skin. Production of Hyaluronic acid – it stimulates the natural production of Hyaluronic acid. Increased consistency – promotes the increased secretion of collagen and elastin. This generates a greater consistency, firmness and reduces sagging in the skin of the patient. Europe Life Sciences CEO of the Year - 2019 - Mark Hollingsworth, The Nutrition Society

Mark Hollingsworth is CEO of the Nutrition Society, a scientific Learned Society, founded in 1941, which seeks to advance the scientific study of nutrition and its application to the maintenance of human and animal health. The Society, headquartered in London, is a membership-based organisation, with 2,800 members. Its principal activities are the publication of scientific journals and textbooks, organising conferences, delivering specialised training through its Training Academy, disseminating science and supporting international capacity-building in nutritional science. Mark, who originally served for 16 years as a Squadron Leader in the Royal Air Force, became CEO of the Society in July 2014. The Society, led by its volunteer Board of Trustees, has been, since Mark’s appointment as CEO, developing a more contemporary strategically-focused organisation, whilst retaining its important historical traditions. This strategic and complex work has seen a new era of enhanced transparency within the Society and this has been the cornerstone of its global success and impact over the past 4 years. This strategic work of transparency has been a vital opportunity to look to communicate with members and stakeholders in a manner which helps explain not just the impact of the activities of the Society, but also the decisionmaking processes involved. This a complex area of leadership, both at the individual and collective level. Trust and integrity are the cornerstones of the highest standards of personal and professional behavior - a key component of that behavior is transparency. Ethical leadership is that which is directed by respect for ethical beliefs, values and for the dignity and rights of others. It is related to concepts such as trust, honesty, consideration and fairness. Transparency opens up the possibility to gain insight into a solution that may not have been possible if only a select number of Trustees or staff are aware. To create this sort of ethics-focused organizational culture, starts at the top. Mark believes ethical leaders can have a tremendous impact on how people in the organization behave and how they achieve the objectives, which is why this new programme has been personally led by both him as CEO and the Board President. This strong ethical leadership has become embedded across all aspects of the Society’s activities. This includes all members involved in leadership and other key positions championing the importance of ethics, communicating trust, fairness,

UK

integrity, openness, compassion, respect. This has created a culture where members and stakeholders trust the information given to them is the truth, good, bad or indifferent. Mark learnt from his 16 years of military service that ethical living, and leading, takes moral courage and conviction. It means doing the right thing, even when it isn’t popular or easy. Mark believes the most important decision made in the early years of this strategic programme came when the Trustee Board decided the Strategic programme become a standing item on the Board Agenda. Hours of each meeting are dedicated to careful analysis and interrogation of the objectives of the programme. This resulted in continuous, clear, transparent strategic direction from each Board meeting, enabling Mark and the Board committees to have appropriate powers and authority to deliver. Finally, an outward looking focus has been developed to the programme to support the concept ‘science knows no borders’. In addition to raising the profile of the Society’s work in the UK Parliament through active involvement on Parliamentary Scientific Advisory Committees, there are now members of the Society in 89 countries in the World. This international perspective has helped in sustaining the vital sources of revenue from the Society’s global publication sales (scientific journals and textbooks). Mark has been actively involved in the expansion (travelling extensively as far as Dubai, Morocco, Brazil, North America, Canada, Switzerland, Portugal, Germany, China, Rwanda, Kenya and Argentina) into areas where the Society can add value and leverage its knowledge, leadership and expertise. Mark believes leading in the non-profit sector, and working with UK science, emphasises the importance of being a servant leader, a dual focus on serving both the Board of Trustees and his staff. He hopes his nomination as CEO of the Year helps to highlight the excellent work undertaken in the non-profit sector in the UK, and the many exciting career opportunities it presents.

Europe Best Full Global Management Company of the Year

The last few years have all been a little crazy, says Wayne Conyers, Director of Youcall-it.com We have won several awards over the past few years, but this one stands out given the recent accomplishments of the business. This award really justifies the additional hard work the whole company has been putting in this year. In order to appreciate why the award means so much to the team at Youcall-it.com we asked them to tell us a little more about what they do and to share some of their recent successes with us. Youcall-it.com was created in 2010, with the aim of unifying global IT service management and service delivery. The business connects clients to suppliers of IT services directly and globally in over 140 countries, delivering services both within “the channel” as well as directly to end customers and clients. “in those early years we had the aim of developing a solution which would allow people to work together, regardless of their own in-house systems, Wayne says. “Companies were still logging tickets via email and chasing techs and companies in different countries without any structure. By bringing together the YouCall-it.com platform and the service providers we were able to create an effective Hub and platform that finally started connecting the dots.” You can use the ( Youcall-it.com ) platform as a completely independent service management tool, connecting to multiple service providers or indeed creating a link with those that are already established within your own partner network as a client or an IT business. We also have customers who utilise our API so they can effectively upgrade their own system capability and flow service requests around the world in a structured manner. Transparency, a word often used In the IT sector – it is the one we hang our whole business mantra on. Creating relationships is always the point at which we start to become truly effective as a solution. Not only do we establish relationships directly between clients and the service providers we then provide all the management tools required to keep that relationship

UK

healthy and flourishing. From the moment a service event or project request hits the system there are a multitude of tools to make sure everything stays on track. We manage response times, service levels, logistics, assets, onsite conduct, reporting, billing and administration - all at the same time. Everything works in unison - based on the initial needs of the client - when the contract or project is created. When you scale that to a Global tool you can really see why the award of “Best Full Global Management Company of the Year” means a lot to the whole company. “We are a UK company and have been since our creation. Last year we created our European helpdesk based in Serbia. This has bolstered the Managed Service Provider side of the business as we now have multilingual capability on a service desk and not just embedded in the service platform. This year we have plans to expand further and to also to better meet the needs of our European customer. As well as building relationships we also deliver the services directly, using all the tools we have built to greatly improve the service management capability of our clients and customers.” We are committed to continually improving Youcall-it. com platform as a service and rollout improvements constantly including changes requested by our users. It is, living, breathing, growing software and its been applied to great effect by many. 2020 is a year which we are very much looking forward to, with the progress made last year Youcallit.com aim to take that even further. A host of new system features will be being unveiled this year including a global pricing service (an offshoot from the main service platform) and a completely new contract management tool for global services. Paragon Protection Ltd has been in business since 1976, providing uniform security guards services, consulting and integrated solutions to some of the most prestigious locations in the Greater Toronto Area. Kevin joined Paragon in 1987. In the early years, he remembers wearing “many hats”; and putting in a full 12-hour day in the office and then waking up at 2am to go downtown to ticket cars himself. In 1994, RJ France took the helm from his late father (Ron France) and closely reviewed its operations and market strategies. Kevin’s experience and his fresh perspectives helped shape new strategic changes and methodologies, resulting in a more efficient company. By streamlining the management structure, Paragon’s frontline Security Guards were able to work in close contact with their support teams. Protocol were established in day-to-day operations to ensure no duplication of labour, and the prompt completion of all tasks. After 32 years in contract security with the France family, Kevin was named President of Paragon Protection Ltd in 2019. It is his belief that Paragon has become the great company it is, through the collective efforts and contribution of all its employees.
