Written masters thesis exploring the question of 'why' in architecture and its human significance. It is a question often ignored today of what precisely do architects provide and where does the work find its value? To answer we must ask what architecture is to the person on the street the "tint man" in the words of Alvar Aalto and the answer is everything. Architecture central to every aspect of how we life our lives and how we conceive of ourselves in the world, the public art around which all life revolves and finds itself. This means that we should ask of any piece of architecture is it human or is it not? Which further demands that architects do away with ego and formalistic nonsense and return to a place of humility and hands on knowledge to make places that can reflect and respond to the character and aims of a people.
