WHAT’S INSIDE • SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE • 2022-2023 CALENDAR • SAFETY UPDATES • ENROLLMENT INFO • FAMILY NET RESOURCES • VOLUNTEERS INFORMATION • NEW PATHWAYS • 2022 BOND INFORMATION • BACK-TO-SCHOOL CHECKLIST facebook.com/kleinisd@kleinisd @kleinisd WELCOME BACK, KLEIN ISD FAMILIES!

It’s Back-to-School season, and I am so happy to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year! Here in Klein ISD we’re excited to continue working together to strengthen and protect our Triple A tradition of excellence in Academics, the Arts, and Athletics.

As our students pursue their unique purpose, in addition to our existing award-winning learning pathways, we’re thrilled to launch this school year new pathways for our students to pursue, including Medical Sciences, Logistics Management, Electrical Technology, and High-Quality Teaching. There’s no doubt that opportunities to be college, career, military, and life-ready abound in Klein ISD!

I also want to express my heartfelt gratitude to our entire community for your approval of the 2022 Bond. Your support will enable us to enhance safety and security measures for our students and staff, provide needed renovations to every campus, modernize aging schools, and purchase new classroom technology for teaching and learning. Because of your continued investment in our community, every student and school in Klein ISD will benefit for many years to come–thank you!

We look forward to all that we’ll accomplish together for our kids and for our community this school year. Thank you for all that you do to make Klein such a wonderful place to call home! jennymcgownsupt jenny mcgown

Safety & Security Updates

Meet New Klein ISD Police Chief MARLON RUNNELS

Being named Chief of Police has been one of the most incredible moments in my professional career. I have worked very hard for this opportunity and have spent the past 16 years in school-based law enforcement, most recently serving as our district’s assistant chief of police. I want our teachers, students, and families to know that Klein ISD is home to me. I’m proud to serve as your Chief of Police, and I’m proud that my own children attend Klein schools.

Like you, I was deeply unsettled by the tragedy in Uvalde. My heart reels for that community. This horrible event has reaffirmed my resolve as a leader in school-based policing and my commitment to keeping every student and staff member in our Klein Family safe from harm.

We are so fortunate to have a supportive superintendent and school board who make safety a top priority and understand how safety needs have evolved. The Klein ISD Police Department is the first school district police established in Texas and recently celebrated 40 years of service in the community. Our agency remains highly visible across the district by monitoring our schools and facilities 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

• Former Assistant Chief of Police for Klein ISD

• Former Chief of Police for Montgomery ISD

• US Marine

To continue the enhancement of Klein ISD’s safety and security measures, we will be adding additional police officers to our already robust department, which includes a patrol element, a K-9 unit, police investigators, cybercrime investigators, and school liaison units. Klein ISD also created an Emergency Management Coordination (EMC) team in 2019 that supports all campus and facility safety teams with fire code compliance and safety drills. The team is also trained in the process to reunify families with their children in the event of an emergency.

We are also proud to have 13 Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) instructors on staff who regularly train our officers and officers of partnering agencies on how to respond to any potential emergency situations. Our officers and civilian staff members are also trained in youth mental health first aid to provide support to students during stressful or difficult times.

I also remain active in my professional learning in the policing community and participate in the Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA), Houston Area Police Chiefs Association (HAPCA), FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI-LEEDA), and Leadership North Houston Class XXVII.

I want to thank you for your support and am very excited to safely start the 2022-2023 school year as the Chief of Police in service of our amazing District and community.
