‘excellence in every classroom’

Texas Commissioner of Education Mike Morath spent time in Klein ISD visiting campuses with Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown, alongside campus principals.

During his visit, Commissioner Morath spoke with students, teachers, and principals about Klein ISD’s history of excellence and innovation and the district’s continued work to produce equitable learning outcomes for every student.

“It was great to see the focus on excellence in every classroom,” Commissioner Morath said. “We were able to see teachers innovating in their lesson design and execution to push students to a very high level of achievement.”

The Commissioner talked with a variety of students and teachers about how Klein meets the needs of every learner: from students receiving special education services to students learning in a dual language environment to on-level and advanced learners benefiting from a blended learn ing platform, which allows them to pursue learning objectives at their own pace personalized for their needs.

“We enjoyed showing Commissioner Morath the excellent work our outstanding educators and students do every single day in Klein ISD and are so pleased to work in partnership to ensure equitable outcomes for all students,” said Dr. McGown.

Zwink Elementary is one of only two in the state of Texas to earn this recognition!

“I am so proud of Zwink for being recognized as a National School of Character for a second time,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “This honor exemplifies the commitment that students, staff, and community have to character development and continuing Zwink’s tradition of educational excellence and care for the whole learner.”

National Schools of Character are recognized for putting into place a comprehensive approach to character education that inspires their students to understand, care about, and consistently practice a set of core values that will enable them to flourish in school, in relationships, in the workplace and, ultimately, in life.

Additionally, they must meet the rigorous standards articulated in Character.org’s 11 Principles Framework for Schools. Each school is evaluated by a team of trained educators who assess how a school’s “shared values” are motivating students to do the right thing and make a positive impact in our world.
