a textile exploration. the creation process of this piece was a calming experience that passed the time during lockdown. the textures are produced through a variety of weaving techniques in each row of yarn. shells from the ocean hang from the bottom weighing down the tapesty and soothe the viewer. the tapestry celebrates imperfection and the art of letting go.

perlehaven

Using the building structure of the Edith Farnsworth House, Perlehaven is a jewerly store located in Amaliehaven garden in Copenhagen, Denmark. The project takes lighting and color inspiration from Graham Gercken’s painting, Sunlit Trail. Situated in the small waterfront park of Amalienborg Palace, Perlehaven reflects the serene connection between the greenery and the water and is a hidden gem within the garden.

the miniature furniture collection was made in for an online course during covid. there was not access to shops at the time so everything was done by hand. there were mini hand drills, mini saws, mini chisels. the collection focuses on design from every view and experimentation with different methods of joinery.

Exploring contemporary intimacy in the dining experience, Interwoven Milieu questions the connections between the past and the present and the juxtaposition between ornate and modern design. These themes are investigated through the process of designing a fine dining restaurant inside of a cozy Brooklyn brownstone.

thesis statement

The thesis addresses intimacy through the lens of the dining experience. Exploring the relationship of balance between historic ornate design and contemporary minimalism, the space prompts the user to question why we have moved from maximalism to minimalism. Through site, the project addresses what it means to create an intimate space and what makes a space feel like a home by looking at the three fundamental things any person requires to survive: Food, Shelter, and Human Interaction. How can a space comfortably and intimately have all three?

How can we be environmentally sustainable and improve our planet through design? The thesis looks back through time and studies the repetition of history through the lens of the dining experience. People have been dining since the beginning of the Anthropocentric epoch. Everyone is connected and this thesis furthers this connection and question the meaning of family and home by bringing the feeling of a home-cooked meal into a public space. It celebrates these connections while practicing sustainability, and emphasizes how communities can be brought together with food.

This space can change and adapt the dining experience for a better tomorrow. The repetition we see throughout history allows us an opportunity to evolve the dining experience because it brings back a level of hospitality that has been lost, it embraces ornate design and the sense of feeling at home.
