Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 1 will be holding a public meeting at 6:00pm Thursday August 2nd at Evans Valley Education & Community Center. The event will be held at 8205 East Evans Creek Rd in Rogue River. The management team encourages residents to attend to hear from fire officials about current fire status. “It was a busier night than we’ve been having,” said Jason Pettigrew, Night Operations Section Chief. Decreasing humidity and wind gusts of up to 15 m.p.h. led to the pick up in activity. An unburnt area inside the control lines caught fire and burned out. Also, crews using infra red scanners found over 70 hot spots. Hand crews followed up and extinguished the hot spots. “It was a good night of work,” said Pettigrew. Due to low humidity and dry conditions large fuels continue burning above and below ground, making it the difficult to detect heat with the naked eye. The combination of infrared technology and hard work allows the firefighters to efficiently mop up large areas. Joe Hessel, Incident Commander laid out the strategy, “The goal is to turn this back over to the local district in a secure state for local resources to patrol.” FIRE ACREAGES BY FIRE: Grave Creek/Section 14/Ditch Creek
