2021 FRIEND OF AGRICULTURE & LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
JERRY LANG
These awards will be presented posthumously at Dairyfest’s 40th Anniversary Celebration June 4 & 5 to the family. Here is the nomination MACCI’s Agri-Business Committee received:
Throughout his lifetime, Jerry Lang had been very involved in the state, county, and community.

Jerry Lang had been involved in the Central Wisconsin State Fair (CWSF) serving on the Fair Board and Junior Fair Board for many years. He gave countless hours to the fair program and its youth, chaperoning Wood County dairy youth at State Fair for the last 50 years. He had served as the CWSF Junior show dairy superintendent and as a member of the junior fair board. Jerry had been a fixture at the Central Wisconsin State Fair. Not only has he exhibited at the fair as an open class dairy exhibitor for 65 years, but also served on the leadership team for the Wood County 4-H association for 20 years. He was one of the originating board members of the Central Wisconsin State Junior Fair Association, having served as President and Treasurer in his 38-year tenure with the Junior Fair. Jerry was also the major fundraiser for the “Jer” Lang Show Palace, milk house horse barns, beef barn, and many other projects on the fairgrounds.

Over the past 50 years, Jerry accumulated countless awards from 4-H, showing his guernsey cattle, and honoring his volunteerism. Jerry spearheaded Wood County Creative Arts Day, an event for Wood Co. 4-H youth to perform and gain confidence and poise in front of an audience. What started out as a handful of performers 40 years ago has resulted in one of the most significant 4-H performing arts festivals in the state, thanks largely to Jerry Lang’s imaginative mind, creative soul, and youth advocacy. Jerry had also been the face of the ever popular and wildly crazy Dress a Cow contest at the CWSF; a contest in which he was instrumental in organizing.
Retirement from a job in which he brought home a paycheck meant more time for Jerry to focus on the needs of the community and how to fill those needs. He retired from his landscaping business in 2006. He began his involvement with St. Vincent de Paul as a volunteer where he did everything from moving furniture, to selling brats, to serving as President of the board. He was instrumental in building the Transitional Shelter. The community got out their wallets when Jerry came walking up because they knew he was asking for donations for one of his many causes. Jerry was called upon for his philanthropic efforts in preparation for the 2019 Wood County hosted Farm Technology Days. Jerry had an unmatched way of getting people to be financially supportive of Wood County, Marshfield, and the multiple other organizations that were dear to him.
Countless volunteer hours between 4-H leadership, St. Vincent’s, Corpus Christie Catholic Church events, and wrestling supporter earned him a well-deserved Jefferson Award in November 2019 from WAOW News Channel 9.
Jerry is highly deserving of this award. This community is still in shock from his unexpected passing. There are many events that will go on for years in which his absence will be difficult to imagine.
