Born in the year 1265, Dante Allegri is well known to be an Italian poet of the early renaissance who is famous for writing divine comedies. His works are considered one of the greatest that were composed in the Italian language and a masterpiece of world literature.
THE THREE BEASTS At the beginning of the journey of reaching mount purgatory, Dante had to travel through a dark and scary forest, where he had encountered three beasts. These beasts are the leopard, lion, and the wolf and each of them possesses its unique symbolism. The first beast, the leopard, represents lust, the lion symbolizes pride and the wolf has embodied the sin of greed.
HEAVEN AND HELL In between purgatory, there is the Paradiso and the inferno, in which souls are sent to go to either of these two destinations. Based on what the soul has done in the physical realm, it will dictate the soul's ultimate placement in the afterlife. Those who have sinned without repenting are sent to the pits of hell where they are tormented eternally. While Souls who have lived a fruitful life and the ones who repent can live in paradise with god.
MOUNT PURGATORY The idea of Mount purgatory is a temporary place of moral change where souls are given a chance to restore themselves by going through the seven terraces. It is also a place where you pay for the debts you incurred when you sinned. Those who can reach the summit of mount purgatory can go to heaven.
THE LUSTFUL
SEVEN TERRACES The different levels of mount purgatory are systemic and focus on appropriate beatitude and prayers. The seven levels are divided into three parts, these are the first three levels, the fourth level, and the last three levels. The first three levels are based on sins that are caused by one’s perverted love which is directed towards actual harm to others, while the fourth level is mainly for souls of deficient love and the last three levels are souls that sinned by excessively loving of good things. Right below the seven terraces is the Ante purgatory which consists of the excommunicated and the late repentant.

SOULS IN PURGATORY The souls of mount purgatory are there to experience moral change, which they are not there to suffer eternally but to experience suffering to refine one’s soul to become good. Based on Dante's theory of the afterlife the body and soul are indissoluble in four ways. These are mythically, experientially, scientifically, and eschatologically. Dante also invented a theory in which souls possess temporary virtual bodies as they await the resurrection of the flesh at the Last Judgment. An interesting point that Dante had mentioned in his theory is how it reverses the order of biological life, in which the body always precedes the soul.
