Cal-Nev-Ha Children’s Fund Scholarship Program Introduction: The Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation was founded in 1965 to provide aid to Klamath, a town in Northern California that was devastated by floods. In response to the disaster, numerous Kiwanis clubs all across the CNH District joined together and compiled funds to assist in rebuilding. In 1980, Past Governor Kenneth C, Forror, M.D. established a scholarship fund for members of the CNH Service Leadership Programs. Now, the scholarship program has become a key part of the Foundation and continues to support active students who demonstrate exceptional leadership, service, and academic ability.

The Kiwanis CNH Foundation awards about $75,000-$100,000 in scholarships each year.

Application Walkthrough: 1). Personal Information:

It is super easy, and quick just fill out all the required info denoted by the red asterisk* Make sure to choose Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN’S and not Key Club of course! It would probably make sense to put the date of the day you turn in the application, but it doesn’t really matter

3

2). Academics and Employment:

If you look at the scholarship requirements, GPA is NOT listed as a weighted section. This scholarship is a SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP, so don’t get discouraged by GPA! Your FAFSA must be completed in order to download your EFC which is required for the application. It determines your eligibility for the $20,000 need-based scholarship. Do not procrastinate on your FAFSA, because the process takes a couple days

4

3). Kiwanis Family Information:

KIWIN’S does not use regions, so use the Kiwanis/Key Club region that overlaps with you. For example, if your sponsoring Kiwanis club/local Key Club is in Kiwanis Region 1, this is what you should put. For the division, it would probably be safe to both put your KIWIN’S division as well as the location and overlapping Kiwanis DivisionEx: Emerald Division (San Diego County, Kiwanis Division #37) Tip use this 20-21 KIWIN'S Counterparts directory (in the KFAM Resource Pack) and you can find the Key Club region that corresponds to your LTG/Division Or if you can’t find this information you can always ask your LTG

4). Club Service:

The biggest portion of your score: 60%! List UP TO 20 TOP SERVICE PROJECTS Service project name, year, and short description is required It's a good idea to go in year order Limited space so make sure to be concise They want to see what you did at that event and whether you planned it or directed others, showing leadership or caring It’s okay if you don’t have 20 events, but if you do have at least 20 just put them all! If you have more than 20 events you should choose the ones that were the most result-driven Follow this format: Service Project Title: Year: Description Example: Annual Pumpkin Smash: 2015: Recruited 40+ members to volunteer and coordinated on site 6 assignments to cover multiple shifts over 2 days

5). Kiwanis Family Attendance:

List UP TO 15 TOP KIWANIS FAMILY EVENTS YOU ATTENDED Again, 15 events are not required! But put as many as you can to show your involvement If you have more than 15 events you should choose the ones that were the most impactful Even though it says Kiwanis Family, your own Kiwanis Family Branch (KIWIN’S) counts (based on their example below) Follow this format: Event Name; Year-Year: your involvement Example: Key Club District Convention; 2014-17: attended all four years; delegate twice and served as judge 7

6). Leadership Positions:

Obviously, it’s TOTALLY OKAY if you didn’t have 10 different positions in KIWIN’S. I’m not sure anyone has ever had that many except MAYBE some District Board Members! Don’t forget to mention: Club officer positions (including appointed), Divisional officer positions, District Committees, District Board Positions Unlike the other sections, a description of what you did is not needed Follow this format: Position: Year-Year, whether you were elected (voted in) or appointed (chosen by one or a few people based on application, not vote) Examples: Club President: 2016-17, elected 8 Division Technology Chair: 2020-21, appointed
