HEN EDITING THIS MONTH’S VOGUE

I decided to make the magazine would resolve around art and how much it has in common with fashion and lifestyle. As someone also studying fashion Retail I believe its so important to know and understand your customer. By placing interviews to the public we managed to capture what today’s fashion is about and what/how it inspires them, which in result gives us a better representation of what people will want to see in upcoming Vogues and what they already know. Having a huge love for catwalk shows we obviously had to include some sort of article, it’s made it clear that fashion Designer’s are artists just through clothing.

This 2022 Issey Miyake has pulled it out the bag again.

With model Ellena Pearson styled in new Miyake wear. Showing the structure and how intricate his pieces are. The cleanliness of the lines in the garment and how they stand out make the picture, as all focus is going onto the construction of the clothing.

Miyake wanted to make the collection simple but effective which is exactly what’s happening. Although the makeup is so bold we were still so drawn to the clothing because of its brilliance and how unique it is.

HISTORY OF MIYAKE “A great thing happening now in art is that artists are using the figure, the body, clothing, life.” – Issey Miyake

I

n 1965 Issey miyake started his journey into fashion at t art University in Tokyo, he majored into graphic design. Miyake then travelled into Paris to study dressmaking And tailoring at l’Ecole de la chambre Syndicale de la coture. Before he knew it he was in New York where his work was noticed Some of his samples were taken to vogue Magazine and Bloomingdale’s and they were heavily impressed by his skills, he even managed to get a tiny section of the shop just for his first collection. After a couple of years in 1973 Miyake’s name was now noticeable, he was invited to shows in Paris and became a member of the French pret-a-porter Organization. After his hard work and aspiration he has become one of the top design in the world and is renound for his abstract shapes an sculpter of his majorly creative garments. Exhibitions Miyakes are also all around the world, some of his Greatest are the “work of Miyake Issey installation view The National Art Center Tokyo”. We will always treasure Miyakes work and how far he has come, every spring, summer or autum winter line of his will never miss the mark and always go down in the history of fashion.

“I actually remember having a big conversation with my computer teacher because I was expected to create my drawings on the computer, and I really felt I didn’t need that for my creative process,” Van Herpen told Vogue’s Mark Holgate in 2016.

“I still feel like that. Sitting behind a screen is not very creative in general, but I really believe in it for the future, so I go there.”vogue.com

Iris Van Herpen is next with Chemical Crows in 2008 fall ready-to-wear. Her line was connected to enchantment and alchemy. The crows that link to her line are linked into being spirit guides. The inky shine of the crows feathers was brought out in black silk cords to create winglike features. Most of the looks were very bold and included the spiked final looks. It was somewhat futuristic. What makes this line so out there is that designs were brought out using 3-D printing which Van Herpen was the first designer in history to do in a fashion week collection.

Number 3 is McQueens spring La Poupee 1997. There was a ”sheer provocation” Its said that nothing has topped this line . McQueen tested with proportion and allowed models to wear visious Metal retriants. Kate Moss walked the runway in bumster pants, this wasn’t to expose but to “elongate the body”. “the spine- that’s the most erotic part of anyone’s body, man or women.

SPRING READY-TO-WEAR 1997

45 67 Victor & Rolfs spring 2016 coture decided to test the limits of wearability. It was an art movement in history. Models wore white tennis dresses with frills and cutouts with large abstract head pieces. These outrageous designs in the art and fashion business really stood out and were rather out there for a spring catwalk. How ever these distorted designs are amazing.

SPRING 2016 COTURE

At number five is a Maison Margiela line from 2017. This spring collection was being shown to the song “diamonds and rust” sung by Joan Baez which linked to the youth consciousness through social media. It was about “facing humanity”. The line was all about creativity and looking into the garments to find emotion. This is displayed in his design of a emotional face on a garment.

Rodart Van Gogh SS 2012 is next with the hypnotic designs. The powerful colours of Van Goghs work were printed onto 50s styles prom dress silhouhettes . The unexpected line was very appreciated that the garments were created without looking tacky or of brand however beautiful dresses were made from the inspirational artist and Van Goghs. presented wonderfully. SPRING 2018 READY-TO-WEAR

2018 Coach came out with their spring ready-to-wear. Floral hardware and slogan patches with Haring’s classic love hearts made the line become modern. Cartoon like characters were on different items like midi skirts and tops. The graffiti-style has been reborn for designer

brands and made a rise.

8 9 10 Calvin Klein in 2018 for spring made a collaboration with Andy Warhol, a four year agreement was processed to allow CK to use his art across collections. This line shows Warhol’s prints from ‘63 and ’82.

Throughout 2020 CK have had full access to all of Warhol’s creations.

This line by Alexander McQueen spring 2001 was monumental.

The show was based around a mental hospital and the audience sat round a box where the psycho women wore headbands wrapped around their faces and had various items attached to them. One model wore a swarm of birds around her head . The line of clothes was actually very beautiful and wearable considering what was going on outside of the garments.

The shocking and slightly disturbing line has audiences gasping by the end.

Der Kuss by Gustav Klimt is last on our top 10. This was Dior Haute Coture SS 2008. Inspirations were based of “gilded swirls and bejeweled geometrics”. The vibrant reds, lines, yellows and magentas was on edge to being too much however ended up being fantastic and chic. Hair was in crazy up doo’s to defy gravity.

Craig Green Ensemble ‘London designer Craig Green deconstructs conventional tailoring and re-sculpts it with energy and emotional Intensity . Here, he hangs a metal frame with different shirt, jacket and trousers components to suggest the potential possibilities for menswear’.- V&A London.

Experiencing the V&A’s Menswear exhibition was inspirational. The different looks that all of the designers had and creative ideas blew my mind, I loved how all the looks didn’t really have a specific gender to all of them.

Some of the garments were actually to society more “feminine” looks which is what creates the different take from audiences perspectives and makes them realise clothes don’t really have genders.
