BBC micro:bit?

“The micro:bit is a handheld, fully programmable computer being given free to every Year 7 or equivalent child across the UK. It’s 70 times smaller and 18 times faster than the original BBC Micro computers used in schools in the early 1980s.

This little device has an awful lot of features, like 25 red LED lights that can flash messages.

There are two programmable buttons that can be used to control games or pause and skip songs on a playlist. Your BBC micro:bit can detect motion and tell you which direction you’re heading in, and it can use a low energy Bluetooth connection to interact with other devices and the Internet – clever!”

EDGE CONNECTOR BREAKOUT BOARD FOR THE BBC micro:bit

The MI:pro protector case not only keeps a BBC micro:bit in perfect condition but also offers a number of other benefits. The 2 x AA battery holder that we stock can be bolted to the back making a compact and portable unit. It also can be stood neatly on a desk and provided large easy to read labels for the A and B buttons. The ‘edge connector’ on the bottom of the BBC micro:bit remains accessible.

This breakout board has been designed to offer an easy way to connect additional circuits and hardware to the pins on the edge of the BBC micro:bit. It provides access to a large number of the BBC micro:bit processor pins allowing a lot of extra functionality to be added. Requires soldering.

MOTOR DRIVER BOARD FOR THE BBC micro:bit

NEW! – LINE FOLLOWING BUGGY FOR THE BBC micro:bit

This board provides a simple way to add motor driving capability to a BBC micro:bit.

It allows two motors to be driven with full forward, reverse & stop control. It has terminal blocks to connect four input devices and a regulated 3V supply is fed in to the 80 way connector to power the inserted BBC micro:bit.

This easy to build Line Following Buggy is controlled by the BBC micro:bit and the Kitronik Motor Driver Board. It uses two LDRs as sensors to 'follow' black lines.

NEW! – KITRONIK INVENTORS KIT FOR THE BBC micro:bit This kit is a great way of introducing students to programming and hardware interaction with the BBC micro:bit.

It contains everything you needed to complete 10 experiments including using LEDs, motors, LDRs and capacitors. The easy to follow tutorial book guides the user through everything they need to know about programming the BBC micro:bit.

It is also a fantastic way of learning how to construct and control electronic circuits. The BBC micro:bit has a selection of pins that are located on the bottom edge of its PCB. By using Kitronik’s specially designed Edge Connector Board in conjunction with the breadboard, it is easy to use these pins to connect the additional components used in each of the experiments to the BBC micro:bit.

NEW! – MI:power BOARD FOR THE BBC micro:bit The MI:power board for the BBC micro:bit brings real portability to wearable projects. The stylish, lightweight PCB is designed to fit snugly against the BBC micro:bit and features a built in buzzer and 3V coin cell holder.

When assembled, the MI:power board is connected directly to the 3V, GND and P0 connections on the BBC micro:bit. The 3V and GND connections provide power and the built in buzzer is connected to P0, which is the default output pin when using the audio functions in the Block Editor software.

The board has an easy to access on/off switch, which makes it easy to turn a project on and off, rather than have to disconnect the power supply from the BBC micro:bit.

Once the unit is assembled and attached to the BBC micro:bit the mechanical fixings prevent the battery from being removed unless you use a screwdriver, so whatever the use, the battery will remain safely in place.
