Mythology has been used throughout time to explain certain events that may be true or to give credence to events which seem to have no explanation. It is everywhere in our daily lives, in our literature, our company logos, our symbols, perhaps in our daily language — we just may not be aware of it. The US Navy calls a fleet of warships, those ships used to give protection to aircraft carriers, the “Aegis.” The following seminars will introduce you to various mythological genres, Greek, Celtic, Native American, and Egyptian. You may enroll in any of the four, or if you choose the four-evening series, you will enjoy a discounted cost. Please bring note-taking materials. HUM 701 3001 A-333

Leopold Education Project

Spend a Saturday with Debbie Ruff, Livingston County Soil and Water Conservation District, as she helps you build environmental values as you gain an understanding of Aldo Leopold’s writings, life, and philosophy. Review curriculum guides and develop confidence in teaching lessons as well as create new lessons and materials for use in a variety of situations. Curriculum materials are designed for use by teachers, interpreters, naturalists, park rangers, zoo educators with direct experiences to the natural world outside the school classroom by making greater use of the outdoors as a learning laboratory. Leopold’s writings are both sound science and excellent literature, making them an outstanding tool for meaningful environmental education. The curriculum uses hands-on critical thinking activities to not only teach students about nature and conservation but to instill what Leopold called a “land ethic,” an appreciation of and respect for the land. Course cost includes $35 for CD and other educational materials. Please bring note-taking materials. (6 CPDU) EDU 703 3001 Sa 10/22/11 8:30a-3:00p B-113 $59 Debra Ruff

Save Money, Save Time, Self-Publish

Savor the joy of getting your book-and your name-in print through selfpublishing. Also known as “publishing on demand,” this process saves time, money and stress. These publishers assist you each step of the way and offer a variety of services: editing, typesetting, cover design, printing, marketing, distribution and sales. Select which services you want and get published for under $1000. Better still- No book agents required. No waiting months for a traditional publisher to respond. No rejections. And best of all, you take an active role, retain control and earn bigger profits. Self-published author Tricia Teague (who has worked for a publishing company for the past decade and has the inside track on publishing books) will show you how. Bring note-taking materials and a sack lunch as the cafeteria is not available.
