Dressing THE GUIDE TO

KIRSTEN SETO

Intro

The inspiration behind my wardrobe rules comes from a desire to create a formula that’s both strict and creative, reflecting my personal style with constants that define me. My fundamentals discusses the two fashion rules I always live by and why they truly matter.

I paid close attention to my dressing habits, some of which are subconscious, and noted common themes. My default jewelry ans signature pieces are everyday staples. As I analyzed my closet, I saw a specific color and material palette that makes me feel feminine with an edge, and bold in contrast.

I want my outfits to feel powerful yet creative which is reflected in my maximalist-meets-classic style. I added rules to showcase my personality ensuring my outfits are always unique.

The strictness of the rules mirrors habits I’ve developed, like how many rings I wear or the size of my hoops, which are based on what feels natural to me and appropriate for my lifestyle. Finally, I ensured to humorously include some things I absolutely avoid because I know what I dislike, and I’m stubborn about it.

You should always rather be overdressed than underdressed.

When you’re overdressed you make a statement. It amplifies your confidence. When you’re underdressed you’re worried about whether you’re appropriate for the occasions.

Besides, no one has ever been denied entry into an establishment for being overdressed. It’s not about just being overdressed—it’s about setting a tone, commanding attention, and showing up like I mean it.

01 F undamentals

Dress in layers and be prepared for anything.

Living in a big city requires going casual or dressier at any given moment. It’s both a power move and a quiet confidence.

Colors

The monocrhome spectrum is the base of my canvas. Brown and cream are acceptable but not preferred. On special occasions I will make exceptions to red, blue, or green.

Regardless, black must always be the dominating color of the outfit. It’s a sharp, deliberate choice, where black holds the power, always balanced yet bold.

Monochrome is a classic. You can’t argue fundamentals.

Sharpness in lines and heightenning silgouettes is a must. It’s about contrast, structure, and attitude. We want to feel powerful yet fun.

Silhouettes

The top must always lean towards fitted. Not necessarily skin-tight, but making room for the jacket, jewelry, and head of course. Absolutely NO turtlenecks.

Jackets must always either be oversized or long. She’s the star of the show.

Shoes must always give at least one extra inch of height. How else will you make sure you can always see? Boots and kitten heels are favorable.

04 Materials

All bottoms must contain decorative hardware or a belt.

Tops are preferably softer materials, this is your area of flexibility. Lace and contrasting details are always welcome.

Jackets and boots must always be leather. There is no exception.

Absoutely under NO condition do we allow itchy knits. We have an image to maintain, but comfort still matters.
