Word from

IPSF Dear Congress Participants,

The amazing 59th IPSF World Congress is now approaching! With over 100 placements filled within 30 minutes after the registration was opened and eventually significantly more applicants that we could ever accommodate for, we never had such a big interest before. What an IPSF President 2012-2013 enormous pleasure it is to have this Pre-Congress booklet presented to you and realise that very soon we will again have the once-in-a-year opportunity to gather together in an atmosphere of tolerance and friendliness, with full faith that we can move the Federation another step forward.

Radoslaw Mitura

While the Executive Committee is still working to get the entire content ready to be put for cutting-edge discussions at the General Assembly, the educational component of the congress is already in place for your enjoyment. With an extra level of polish, we are hoping to provide excellent Educational and Scientific Symposia on top of students and stakeholders running workshops that will fill the venue to its boundaries. Together with the Reception Committee, we are working to translate these perfect arrangements into your unforgetable experiences upon your arrival! Does that sound appealing? At least for me, it does. I cannot wait to see you all! Enjoy reading this booklet to get a taste of what an amazing event you can expect! Yours truly in IPSF, Radek Mitura IPSF President 2012-13 PAGE 3

If there is no damage to your room at the end of the congress, you will get the deposit returned to you. When you lose your congress badge or any other material we handed out to you, we can arrange new items for you upon payment of a small amount in cash. The RC advises to bring at least €100 in cash. ATMs can be found close by the congress accommodation and all around the city. Credit cards such as Visa and MasterCard/Eurocard are widely accepted, as well as cash cards that access the Cirrus network. Bike renting during the congress will be possible, but it will be at your own expense.

The weather The temperature in the Netherlands in August will be around 25 °C. Although there will be some sun, there will always be a chance for cloudy weather or rain. Our recommendation is to pack both your sunglasses and sunscreen and your raincoat, just to be sure. Public transportation Utrecht has a good bus system: buses will bring you to every part of the city. The venue can be reached perfectly by public transportation. To pay for the bus you need an ‘OV Chipknip’. They are for sale at the city bus station, the railway station, and the post offices. The bus to University Campus goes eastward (bus number 4, direction ‘Burg. Fokkema Andrealaan’); get off at the bus stop ‘Hoogstraat’ and walk into the street ‘Prins Hendriklaan’. Detailed information about the public transportation can be found on our website or the national public transportation website.

Pick-up service from the airport If you arrive by plane on the 30th of July at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, we have arranged a pick-up service to bring you to the accommodation. LIT participants will be accompanied to the venue as well. On every other date or from any other arrival place you have to get to the venue and accommodation by yourself. To know when to pick you up, we’d like you to send us your flight details. Please send your arrival date, arrival time, airline and flight number - accompanied by your name and country - to registration@ipsf2013.org. If you do not provide us with this information we can not pick you up! Note: If you arrive very early or very late, it is possible you have to wait a while. Don’t worry though, we will take care of you.

THE COMPOUNDING EVENT During this year’s congress there will be an opportunity to become the first ‘Worlds’ best compounder’. The new Compounding Event will consist of an introductory workshop which will be accessible for everyone interested in the opportunities in compounding. The workshop will be held on Saturday, the 3rd of August. On Monday the 5th the first Compounding Competition will take place. You can join at the beginners’level or accept the real challenge and try to win the advanced level!

How does it work? By joining this competition you’ll have to develop the best way to prepare a formulation and then actually compound it. We hope to see many of you at this interesting event!

CALL FOR THE IPSF 1949 CONFERENCE This new IPSF innovation-oriented event will see the light at the World Congress! Inspired from the famous TED talks, this event aims at encouraging pharmacy students to develop new and innovative ideas about pharmacy profession, practice and science. REGISTRATIONS: HOW DID IT END? We were ready. We informed all Contact Persons (CPs) in advance about the registration process: Get the confirmation letter ready for your members and make sure they register as soon as possible on the website. We had only 400 places for the congress and promised up to 3 ODs per association so regular participants had to be fast. And fast they were: Within the first hour after the registrations opened we received more than 100 applications. All of them either from Slovenia, Taiwan, The United States or Portugal actually. Within 12 hours we’d already received a total of 236 registrations. From the start we wanted to have as many associations represented as possible and therefore accepted an even amount of people from each country. A lot of students from many countries applied and unfortunately some people had to be placed on the waiting list. However, when accepted, we were glad to see everyone was very happy to be able to attend and doing their best to pay as soon as possible. Overall the registrations went according to schedule. In fact, it went so well that we had to close registrations after the first registration period as we already received over 800 registrations! We are very proud to have so many people from so many countries represented in our IPSF World Congress (for the numbers and figures see the panel) and we are very excited to meet everyone at the Congress! A quick reminder for everyone: If you still have urgent questions regarding the congress, the Netherlands or Utrecht and it can’t be found in this newsletter, our website or the internet, we are happy to help. Just email to info@ipsf213.org and we’ll try to answer as soon as possible. We’ll keep in contact as well: Early July you will receive the 2nd Pre-Congress newsletter with all the last information and details on how to prepare for the congress. PAGE 8

Another theme party is based on James Bond’s ‘Casino Royale’. You can play roulette and black jack to support the IPSF Development Fund or be a Bond girl on the dance floor. More details about the other theme evenings will be published in the next newsletter!

During the excursion day you will experience a combination of the Dutch culture while doing sportive activities. This ‘Dutch Day’ will take place at two old fortresses near Utrecht. Wear some sportive clothes this day because the activities are outdoor! PAGE 16
