Cover Concept
‘Organisational growth mirrors the life cycle of a tree’ implies that just as a tree undergoes stages of germination, growth, maturity, and regeneration, organizations also experience similar phases after significant changes or shifts.
Initially, like a seed, an organization starts small, with a vision and potential for expansion. As it receives nourishment through strategic planning, investments, and innovation, it sprouts branches and gains momentum, symbolizing growth. Later, like a mature tree, the organization stabilizes, adapts to its environment, and continues to bear fruit (success) while remaining rooted in its core values and mission.
This transformational journey reflects the natural progression of a tree, showcasing the resilience and evolution of successful organizations.

LEADERSHIP ADDRESS
Dear Colleagues and the extended KPCL family,
At the outset, I would like to thank Anuradha and the Impeller editorial team for putting together this forum where we can share our collective successes and our learning’s across business units and locations.
Last year marked the highest ever revenue in KPCL’S 62 year history and this is really a reflection of the extraordinary work done by each and every one of you. Historically, the months of April and May are generally a little bit slower months and as we grow, this will, of course, change.
However, I have been thoroughly impressed by how people are using this time, especially when it comes to, softer aspects like L&D. The HR team has really been going out of their way to make many opportunities available. And many teams have, in fact, taken it upon themselves to provide a forum for anyone and everyone to come in and learn how things work, how a compressor works. And this was something which I really believe should be institutionalized going forward.
One area which is a little bit concerning, however, is the declining trend when it comes to level one and level two Kaizens. The fact that there are fewer kaizens does not mean that there are no improvements. This is simply reflected in the fact that once again, we've had highest ever revenues and also highest ever productivity which really means that we are improving; we're simply not talking about it and not reporting it. And I can understand why! It may seem like; if the improvement is done there may not be a need to report it. However, when we do report it, one is, of course, that we do and we are recognized for it. And two is that the organization as a whole can learn from the improvements which you have done in your function or in your business unit, and it makes the overall organization more robust and better.
Today, we are sitting on an extremely high level of order booking, and this number is trending up. The last two and a half quarters are going to be challenging for our execution and managing the external stakeholders like consultants, inspections and customers. But I have no doubt that these are challenges which can and will be overcome by team KPCL.
Thank you very much and thank you for going through the Impeller magazine.
Thank you.

13th CII National HR Excellence Award
Sustained Excellence in HR
First value of Kirloskar amongst 6 values is “Excellence” & KPCL Human Resource team has always tried to live up to all the values including “Excellence” in all our processes & offerings to our stakeholders.
It’s been a long journey since 2014 when we actually started consolidating our processes, revisiting & reviewing policies with the objective of enhanced employee experience. It was the time when we studied various Excellence models including CII National HR Excellence Assessment Model which stands on the strong foundation of OPEL –Outcomes, Processes & Practices, Evaluation & Assessment, and
Learning & Innovation. The OPEL model provided us with the clarity on direction to move ahead in aligning our processes with the Excellence Model. Model focuses on the enabling processes which eventually lead us to the positive results in terms of employee perception and business results both.
We took 3 whole years from 2014-2017 to completely study our existing processes & practices, making changes in the same & also initiating several best practices in all enabling areas as Leadership, Learning & Development, Human Resource Strategy, People Wellbeing, Employee engagement and Human Resource
Processes. In 2017, when we applied for the first time in CII HR Excellence Assessment, we were thoroughly assessed by the learned team of 4 senior assessors & KPCL was awarded with “Significant Achievement in HR Excellence” award for landing up in the score band of 500-599. In this assessment, we received very qualitative feedback & opportunities for improvements by the assessment team. In 2018, we took a break & rigorously worked on improvement areas & aligning our processes with further refinements.
In 2019, we again decided to participate in CII National HR Excellence Assessment & this time we won the coveted “Prize for Leadership in HR Excellence” for scoring in the band of 600+. Further to this, Excellence in HR became our way of life & we were successful in sustaining
LEADERSHIP ADDRESS | 3 Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited A Kirloskar Group Company
our position & won “Prize for Leadership in HR Excellence” consecutive 4 times in a row from year 2019 to 2022. In the year 2021, KPCL was also recognized by the CII as a benchmark site for the other industries & our application document was referred & used for CII assessors training workshop. In the year 2022, with the zeal for continuous improvement, we again decided to test our process sustainability & participated for the 5th time in CII assessment. Participating in Excellence assessment requires strong dedication & commitment as the entire assessment experience is very challenging where all our processes & practices are questioned & tested against what
impact they are making for the growth of an organization. This year as well we crossed 600+ scoring band & we were awarded with “Prize for Leadership in HR Excellence ''. In recognition of our consistency & urge for learning, in 2022 we were also awarded with “Sustained Excellence in HR” award by the CII Jury members. We’re proud and humbled at the same time to announce that KPCL is the only organization in India to win this award & scoring 600+ points consecutively 4 times in a row.
In this entire journey, 20+ assessors across India who themselves are seasoned HR Professionals in the industry assessed & provided us with
valuable feedback & opportunities for improvement. In this journey, many of our processes were also recognized as benchmarking practices which other industries can learn from us & get benefited from.
Excellence has been a way of working for Human Resource function & we believe it’s not the destination, rather a continuous journey of improvement. These success stories have indeed inspired us, motivated us & at the same time have shown us the path to channelize our efforts in the right direction of Excellence.

Dnyanganga Week
Any organization is said to be a growing organization if it promotes learning. We believe that “An organization's ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive advantage.” And the growth of such organization is multifold. Training and development provide employees with the skills and knowledge to keep updated with the company's changes and growth. It can also help to develop and improve the culture, its efficiency, and its effectiveness; Training not only makes employees more confident and sure of their knowledge and skills, but it instills confidence in their managers too. This makes for a more enthusiastic team and encourages employees to be more accountable. Training and development help a company gain and retain top talent, increase job satisfaction and morale improve productivity, and earn more profits.
With all such added advantages of training in an organization, we, here at Kirloskar Pneumatic Company, practiced ‘Dnyanganga Week’ this April 2023. This week, since the systems were off due to yearly stock audits, we utilized the non-productive hours in learning for our employees.
We planned well in advance in March and came up with detailed training topics and schedules. All the selected topics were from our daily working subjects and principles. It was all about the basics of compressors, the working of different types of compressors, their important components and their functions, Operating Procedures (SOP), Oracle system working, and Reading the TOC reports. For all these the good part was that all our trainers were our people working daily in and out on these systems and processes.
Every day for a week, we met after lunch at 2:30 pm and continued our sessions till 5 pm. We took just one topic and the trainer imparted his knowledge on the selected topic, this was then followed by discussions and the experiences everyone had while working on the selected topic. These discussions were like cross-table
discussions (Interactive) with everyone sharing their experiences and the trainer guiding every participant to the correct answers and ways of doing the process. These training sessions not only helped our employees to gain practical knowledge but also helped our trainers to have the stage daring and gain confidence while addressing the people. This also gave them the feeling of self-esteem and completeness. These trainings gave us a better understanding of our responsibilities and the knowledge and skills we needed to do the job. This has helped us to improve our confidence which can positively impact our performance in the future. We look to many such instances where we can utilize our in-house talent to mark our futures bright.

Innovation - Double Lift Vapour Absorption Chiller Introduction to Double Lift Technology
Alarge amount of waste heat is exhausted in the industries. In particular, low temperature heat such as that below 80°C is not utilized enough, and the limitation of lowest release temperature also places a limit on the useful heat quantity that can be obtained from low temperature heat sources such as hot water. The double lift absorption chiller is driven by hot water around 70°C and utilizes it until under a 60°C outlet temperature. Therefore, it is expected to recover unused low temperature waste heat, the double lift high efficiency absorption chiller design includes two auxiliary generators, an Auxiliary absorber and two condenser designs with evaporator, generator and absorber construction.
Product Specifications
Heat Source – Hot Water
Hot Water Temperature – 70°C Onwards
COP – 0.4
Capacity Range - 50 - 1000 TR
Operating Principle
Refrigerants evaporate from the evaporator and cool the chilled water flowing inside the evaporator tubes. Refrigerant evaporated at this time travels to an absorber and gets absorbed into the concentrated LiBr solution.
Concentrated solution from a generator and weak diluted solution from an absorber exchange heat at an absorption heat exchanger located at the upper part of
the absorber to improve the absorption capacity of the concentrated solution and enhance the efficiency of the chiller.
The concentrated solution coming through the absorption heat exchanger absorbs vapour and becomes a weak diluted solution. Absorption heat generated at this time is conveyed to cooling water.

A diluted solution diluted at an absorber goes to a generator through an absorption heat exchanger. Hot water at 70 °C heats this dilute solution and generates refrigerant vapour.
The dilute solution becomes a concentrated solution at the regenerator and returns to the absorber through the heat exchanger.
Refrigerant steam generated from the generator gets condensed outside of the condenser tubes and flows down to the evaporator. Cooling water absorbs the heat generated when refrigerant gas gets condensed at condenser tubes.
Distinctive Features
Wealth to Waste Solution
y Heat Recovery through Hot Water at temperature as low as 70°C
Fastest ROI
y Lowest Operating Cost
y 90% less Power Consumption
Applications & Industries
y Comfort Cooling / Space Cooling
y Process Cooling - Tyre & Rubber, Refinery, Food Processing, Metals Etc.
y District Cooling
The refrigerant vapour generated in the first generator and the auxiliary regenerator is condensed in the condenser and descends to the evaporator, and the cooling water absorbs the heat radiated as the refrigerant gas condenses in the condenser.
The flow of the hot water flows in the order of the first generator and the auxiliary generator, and the cooling water flows in the order of the absorber, the secondary absorber, and the condenser to form the chiller cycle.
The high-efficiency Hot water double lift absorption chiller consists of one primary cycle and one auxiliary cycle.
y Operate on Waste Heat Recovery
y Low Maintenance - No Moving Parts
Reduction in CO2 Footprints
y Water as refrigerant - Green Refrigerant
y No Global Warming Potential
y No Ozone Depletion Potential

Manufacturing Process improvement
- A steps towards Automation & Digitalization
To sustain & grow in the current competitive market, every organization prioritises product quality, pricing, and on-time delivery. In the value chain of a product, the manufacturing process plays a pivotal role since it determines the product's throughput time, cost, and quality. Simply, the quality of the process determines the quality of the product. As a result, efforts are constantly made to evaluate current processes via these many lenses in order to optimize them. These are graded on the basis of five M and one E.
Man – Machine – Method – Material – Money –Environment.
In this endeavor, we are constantly tapping the opportunities for improvement where the obvious focus goes on the manual processes first. Anything Manual involves fatigue, productivity loss, and increased
process time. Anything manual implies an error-prone method that results in poor quality. This certainly increases the cost of conversion and the expense of quality.
We had one such manual operation of vacuuming the compressor assembly and filling it with nitrogen up to 2 Bar to protect the compressor inside from corrosion. There were also a few field complaints about the absence of Nitrogen in the assembly after arriving on site. Recognizing the significance of this, we got down to devise a solution.
"Progress has little to do with speed, but much to do with direction!" says author Timber Hawkeye. “So respect every stride, no matter how slow."
While brainstorming for a solution, we followed the organizational goal of moving towards automation and digitalization.
Old process: Manual Vacuuming and Nitrogen filling
To avoid corrosion in compressor assembly, post-dispatch before commissioning, 2Kg/cm2 nitrogen is filled into the compressor by manual process & data is recorded manually.
1. After completion of compressor assembly, vacuuming needs to be done to remove moisture, air from the compressor by manual connection of vacuum pump hose pipe and pressure gauge.
2. Vacuum is held for two minutes and vacuum drop is manually monitored for leak detection. After a vacuum leak test found OK, then nitrogen is filled into the compressor by connecting the hose of N2 cylinder. Subsequently, manual checking of the pressure drop of filled nitrogen is done on the pressure gauge.
Demerits –
1. Chances of manual error and no digital report and accurate values for future references
2. Operator has to continuously observe the cycle.
3. Vacuuming and Nitrogen filling cycles are performed separately.

4. Vacuuming is performed automatically at set parameters and live pressure & cycle is displayed on screen.
5. System holds a vacuum with defined hold time and shows pressure after hold time. If vacuum pressure is within specified limit after holding time, Nitrogen filling starts automatically by showing the vacuum cycle is passed. If vacuum pressure is not within the specified limit, the system displays that vacuum cycle is failed.
6. Nitrogen is filled at specified pressure and gets captured. System holds nitrogen pressure with defined hold time and displays on the screen too. If pressure is within the specified limit, the display shows the nitrogen filling cycle is passed and the report gets generated on PC. If Nitrogen pressure is not within specified limit, the system displays that the Nitrogen filling cycle has failed and subsequently asks for retesting or aborting the operation.
Merits -
1. Nitrogen filling data is recorded in the computer system for future references as an archive, which helps for tracking and analysis of customer complaints or any field failure.
2. Automatic Vacuuming and nitrogen filling improves productivity
3. Accurate Compressor Leak detection due to digitalised gauging.
4. Manual error is eliminated; standard process is followed for nitrogen filling.

Collaborative Problem Solving – A Great Experience
CFT Project
With objective of zero defects at end customer, KCX Oil Pump is selected as a priority part for improvement.
Since pump assembly is an important and critical subassembly, say heart of the compressor, which is expected to be a life time defect free part of the compressor and refrigeration system.
sensitizing me about providing support and strength to my team.
Nothing starts with plan. So our team first made a project plan in which the project goals, approach towards problem solving, starting date and expected completion etc. was decided.
We analysed the field data of pump assembly on different criteria like model specific, region specific, application specific, supplier specific and even considered the period of running the compressor to define the problem correctly.
So considering the importance of this subject and involvement of many functions, it was decided to have separate CFT working on this project to put in focused efforts. Accordingly, team was formed with an objective of 'Improvement in KCX Pump Assembly'.
In this team QA, Mfg., Design, Service, Purchase departments and supplier members were included and it was decided to be driven by QA so the responsibility was given to me to navigate the team as a leader. In the very first meeting, I experienced that everyone was willing to solve this problem and ready to make sincere efforts in that direction.
Good start is half work done. Seeing everyone’s enthusiasm, my confidence boosted multi-fold
In next step, quality and cost related data was also referred.
For finding the root cause, we used the analysis tool & techniques – like fishbone, why-why analysis & 8D methodology, from which we got the potential causes. Going forward, we verified the causes and filtered those. Then, we brainstormed on different probable solutions on selected causes.
The pump component drawings were modified and released by the design department with all revisions required for the corrective actions the team had agreed upon.
Accordingly, supplier produced components for five prototype pumps. Inspection and performance testing

was done at supplier works on test rig by the supplier in presence of QA & Purchase team.
After performance test, pumps were stripped down again to see the condition of inner parts and results were found satisfactory.
In house performance testing of prototype pumps was done on the compressors by manufacturing and QA team.
Protocol was prepared by the design team for field validation of prototype pumps. The service team identified the region wise customers and field validation was done at that location.
Finally, with the help of the team efforts and collaboration, we successfully overcome the identified probable causes.
The team success was celebrated. I learnt a lesson on collaboration. It really unlocked the hidden potentials. Intangible benefits like improved self-confidence, selfdevelopment, communication, team work & working culture.

Carbon Sequestration
Carbon sequestration refers to the long-term storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases to mitigate climate change. While carbon sequestration offers numerous benefits such as Restoration of Ecosystems, Economic Opportunities, Air Quality Improvement, we, at Kirloskar Pneumatic Company, conducted a baseline study at both of our Hadapsar & Saswad plants to calculate the standing biomass of the above ground wooden parts as a testimony of one of our sustainable practices to improve overall energy efficiency.
Hadapsar Plant
In 2019, this study revealed that trees at KPCL store 45.7 tonnes of carbon and have the capacity to sequester 0.91 tonnes per year.
The current study was carried out to examine the growth in standing biomass and carbon sequestration after a three-year period. According to the current analysis, the trees at KPCL store 46.6 tonnes of carbon in 2023, with the capacity to sequester 0.93 tonnes per year. This represents a 2% increase in standing biomass, stored carbon, and potential carbon sequestration.
Saswad Plant
The similar baseline study was carried out at our Saswad plant in 2021. According to the findings of this study, trees at KPCL store 163.30 tonnes of carbon and have the capacity to sequester 3.26 tonnes each year.
The investigation was repeated in 2023 to examine the growth of standing biomass and carbon sequestration after a two-year timeframe.
The trees at KPCL store 124.0 tonnes of carbon, according to the current study. The young plants have the capacity to sequester 2.4 tonnes of carbon per year, confirming a 14% increase in standing biomass, stored carbon, and a twofold value of carbon sequestration in the next two years.

Biodiversity Testimony
Hadapsar Plant
As you are aware, the KPCL Hadapsar Unit is located extremely close to the Pune Solapur Highway and is subjected to continual vehicular pollution and noise. Despite this, KPCL has managed to keep its campus healthy, as evidenced by the results. 2019 data and 2023 data show a major positive change which in general is very tough, particularly in urban habitat. The well-known 'Green Wall' is undoubtedly assisting birds and insects by providing a secure haven for them. The overall summary is provided below, and the findings are remarkable.
Improved Biodiversity Species Index
Saswad Plant
After reviewing the campus's existing flora and fauna data, as well as the three-day visits done on campus, and comparing it to 2019 data, it was discovered that KPCL management is undoubtedly investing time and money to maintain and expand the campus's biodiversity. We were surprised to observe that each group increased by 10% in terms of species seen, which was the primary goal of this re-survey. We are convinced that if the recommendations by Botanists are followed, the diversity of the campus's flora and fauna will flourish further in the future years.

Making a Difference: Reflecting on our CSR Journey
The Board has established a CSR Committee to monitor its CSR activities. As part of its initiatives under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), our Company has undertaken projects in the areas of Promoting Education, Education of Girls, Environment, and Health.
After the pandemic, 2022-23 was the first year where everyone started to live a normal life and learned to coexist with the waning COVID-19 pandemic. This meant that we could reconnect and engage with our community stakeholders in physical ways as usual. The year marked consolidation as well as refocusing of our CSR initiatives.
With a focus on youth skilling and employability, a new initiative is started by collaborating with NTTF (Nettur Technical Training Foundation). Eligible students are selected with due consideration for DEI (diversity, inclusion, and equity) and based on various socio-economic criteria. These selected candidates are supported for a 3-year diploma program in Mechatronics and Smart Factory.

The 3rd Online Ram Nadi Festival as a part of the Kirloskar Vasundhara Initiative highlighted the contributions made through such activities.
Overall CSR initiatives of our Company have benefitted 25,000 + community members in this year.
Powering with Green Energy
Last year, management made the risky but calculated decision to build a rooftop solar power plant. We put
together a team under the guidance of our MD and CFO. They both went to the Saswad facility to learn about the type, execution,
Dr. Suresh Mijar General Manager BSSHealth and CSR-OHC
technical features, and output of the solar panel system.
Selection of Solar System
Solar Power Plants are classified into two types: on-grid and offgrid. Given our plant's location, maximum demand contract with the electrical board, and desire for benefits, we chose On-Grid. When the solar panels overproduce, the On-Grid solar power plant will automatically send extra power to the grid. It is also known as the Net Metering System. Units exported will be
STEP TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY | 25 Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited A Kirloskar Group Company
subtracted from total consumed units. We chose an on-grid rooftop
solar power plant with a capacity of 680 kW based on our contract requirement with MSEDCL.
Execution
We began actual work in October - 2022 after finalising the proposal.
The shed's roof is at an inclined angle, thus a walkway is provided to make it easier to walk on the roof. Our walkway is constructed with Fiberglass Molded Gratings. It has a load carrying capacity of 300 kg per square metre. The Platform is 310mm wide. Two people can easily walk next to each other.
We began installing solar panels after ensuring worker's safety. Solar panels are mounted on metal roof sheets using mounting brackets. Extra care is taken to avoid rain water leakage. Total 1570 Solar panels are installed in the Saswad plant. Each solar panel has 535 Wp generation
capacity. Total system can generate 840kWp / 680kW power. Photovoltaic effects convert this solar energy to electric energy. This energy is in the form of DC; to convert it into AC, form inverters are installed. Total 12 nos of inverters are arranged for this work.
Performance
Capacity of the complete plant is 680kW. Out of 680kW, 480 kW‘s Solar panels are installed on New PGS shed and 200 kW’s are installed on OLD PGS and ACR-E shed. These generate more than 10 Lakh units per year. Proposed saving in terms of money is nearly 1 cr Rs per year in electricity bill. The IoT based solar system makes it easy to
observe performance closely and live.
This step towards green energy will definitely become revolutionary for us.

Empowering Women
Adventure to remember at Garudmaachi !!
surreal. Nature itself played a perfect backdrop for the day’s activities.
8th March, International Women's Day is an occasion to honor and appreciate the achievements of women across the globe.
In recognition of this special day, our company organized an adventurous day trip for all the women in our organization to 'Garudmaachi' Resort, Mulshi nestled in the Western Ghats! Many thanks to our caring leadership for this amazing experience.
Since it was announced, there was curiosity and buzz about it and finally the day arrived.. We did not know that it would become a lifetime experience for us in the company of beautiful and courageous women.
"GANPATI BAPPA MORYA, MANGALMURTI MORYA" was how we began our journey with energy on cloud nine. Be it short or long,
the journey brings everyone closer, so after a quick ice breaking conversation everyone was grooving and dancing their hearts out to many songs, playing antakshari, clicking snaps, enjoying a hot cup of tea. Time just flew away and we reached our most awaited destination.
‘Garudmaachi’ is a picturesque location in Tamhini Ghat, offering breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere. The place is in the middle of a 55 acre preserved forest and has been announced as a bird sanctuary. You will hear different animals and birds here. It felt
We entered the place which was nestled in the lap of nature. We were surrounded by many beautiful trees and birds. We were eager to explore many more things. ‘High places team’ was there to host us with red roses! Who doesn’t love red roses, we were just flattered!
After some refreshments, the day began with a range of activities. As an introductory activity, we started with a game named virtual football which helped us to know each other by names. Then, all of us were divided into five groups and were assigned three activities one after another. We were expecting us to be in one group, but we ended up joining other groups. This happened with almost everyone, but each one of us embraced this change within a few minutes and enjoyed every bit of

it. Rutuja’s team completed all three activities in minimum time and got rewarded. All the girls were cheering for ‘Team Eagles’. It was really a supportive and encouraging moment and reflected a true friendship.
After these activities, the delicious lunch was served and then we all were ready for a real adventure of rappelling. We all were scared, nervous and excited at the same time being a new experience.
We were all gathered for instructions before rappelling began. Under the guidance of expert
trainers from High places, we learnt facts and details about rappelling. Then, one by one each one of us was geared up for the best experience of all time. At first, I almost gave up even before attempting, but all the girls and the trainers were so helpful and cheerful that they all conquered their fears.
After this heart racing adventure, it was time for high tea and gift hampers. We all gathered in the cafeteria and some of us shared their day-long experiences. Gift hampers were distributed, we clicked some group photos and then it was time to leave the maachi.
We were reliving the moments as we walked towards the bus, with smiley faces and nodding in appreciation as we passed the squad of Garudmaachi.
Women's Day, an adventurous outing, was designed to create an environment for women to
showcase their strengths, break stereotypes and inspire each other.
One of the highlights of the event was an opportunity for women employees to connect and to create a bond with their colleagues outside the confines of the office. The outing fostered a sense of camaraderie, unity, joy, personal growth, self- discovery and teamwork among the attendees, as they shared laughter, stories, experiences and their minds. The connections forged during this outing will undoubtedly strengthen the support within the organization and contribute to a more inclusive and empowering work environment. The day was a resounding success and left a lasting impact on minds reinforcing the importance of womanhood and limitless possibility that women can create when they come together and embrace challenges.

Connecting Through Adventure: Unforgettable Team Bonding at I-Camp Resort, Wai
Team bonding activities have always played a crucial role in fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and collaboration among colleagues. These activities provide an opportunity for team members to step out of their comfort zones, interact in different settings, and create lasting memories together. In line with this objective, our company recently organized an exhilarating outbound team bonding activity at the picturesque I-Camp Resort in Wai. This two-day adventure brought our team closer than ever and left us with unforgettable experiences to cherish.
Day 1: Arrival and Team Building Challenges
On day 1, we had the invaluable opportunity for HR intervention wherein we reflected and reviewed last year's performance and devised strategic planning for the upcoming year. With detailed
performance presentations from each function followed by an action plan for next year, this year's intervention with Leadership concluded with high-spirited guidance from MD Sir on future HR strategies. After the serious session in the first half, our entire HR team afterward relished the
scrumptious lunch and started the most awaited journey to the outbound center around 3 PM. The journey in the bus itself served as an ice-breaker among the colleagues where everyone indulged in Karaoke, Antakshari, and dance. As we arrived at the serene location of the I-camp resort, the atmosphere was filled with anticipation and excitement. We had an amazing evening experience with a fantastic dam view. We gathered for fun activities with hi-tea snacks where everyone participated very well. As the evening progressed, we enjoyed DJ night with a Barbeque dinner and ended our day 1 with a bonfire at night. It was a wonderful moment of connection and appreciation. We shared our personal experiences, discussed the challenges we overcame, and expressed gratitude for the support we received from our teammates.

Day 2: Adventure Sports and Reflection
The second day of our team bonding activity was dedicated to adventure sports and selfreflection. We engaged in a range of thrilling activities, including Trekking, Raft Building, River Rafting, and Kayaking. These activities pushed us to conquer our fears, rely on one another, and build mutual trust. Whether it was cheering on a hesitant teammate.
We started our second day with trekking which was a great experience with adventures, laughter, excitement, and
most scary for some of us. We completed an amazing trek with with unforgettable memories.
Our team was divided into 2 groups, each led by an experienced facilitator who guided us through a series of team-building challenges. The challenges were carefully designed to promote effective communication, and problemsolving, and to build trust among team members.
One of the highlights of the day was a thrilling raft-building activity. Equipped with limited resources, each group was tasked with constructing a sturdy raft
that could withstand the waters of Dhom Dam. This challenge required collaboration, effective decision-making, and the ability to adapt to unexpected situations. As we worked together to construct our rafts, laughter and shouts of encouragement filled the air, strengthening the bonds between team members.

"Propelling Screw Compressor Analysis into the Future: The Power of Machine Learning"
of presenting our pioneering research paper: "Structural
Analysis of Screw Compressor Block
Using Bayesian Machine Learning.” The study illustrates how ML can be effectively leveraged in CAE applications, particularly in the sphere of computer-aided structural analysis.
Our presentation, delivered on the 28th of March, 2023, resonated with machine learning experts worldwide. The enthusiastic response we received underscored the timeliness and significance of our work in the
realm of computational and data sciences.
On behalf of the KPCL-R&D team, I extend heartfelt gratitude to our management. Their unwavering support and encouragement were pivotal in facilitating our participation in this significant conference. The event provided an exceptional platform to comprehend the latest advancements in the field and forge meaningful connections within the scientific community.
Abstract:
The escalating demand for screw compressors in the industry has magnified the complexity of their design and construction. To mitigate this challenge, Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Multibody Dynamics (MBD) are extensively employed. These tools, which accurately replicate real-world scenarios, aid in understanding failure criteria and optimizing products & manufacturing tools without the need for physical experiments, saving significant effort and manpower. In this paper, the structural analysis of a screw compressor block is executed using Ansys Mechanical and SCORG, established tools for finite element modeling and screw compressor analysis. The data gleaned from this analysis was utilized to train a Machine Learning (ML) model that can adapt to various working conditions. Bayesian optimization is employed for tuning the ML model’s hyper parameters, enhancing its predictive accuracy. This tuned ML model can efficiently predict stress and deformation at given nodal points, eliminating dependence on any physics solver and reducing computational effort. Future research will further utilize this ML model for the optimisation of screw compressor blocks, with experimental validation playing a crucial role
in further refining the model's capabilities.
By showcasing our ground-breaking research at such a distinguished conference, we not only contribute to the growing body of knowledge in this field but also assert KPCL's commitment to innovation and excellence. This experience has reaffirmed our belief in the transformative power of the synergy between machine learning and computer-aided engineering. As we venture forward, we're excited about the immense potential this integration holds for revolutionizing structural analysis techniques and enhancing the design and evaluation of complex engineering systems.
Let's continue to explore, innovate, and lead in this exciting era of technological convergence!

Game of Life
Ihave been a member of the KPCL family for the past seven years, and have experienced sea changes happening in the organization on different fronts like business growth, new products, new markets, and new processes. Change always comes with culture change and youngsters are always at the center of this, being the future of the company. So organization always strives to bring in different employee-centric initiatives to engage them with body and mind to the work. Sports League is one such initiative that is organized on the K- group level and KPCL takes active participation in it. All four divisions of KPCL bring tough competition and enthusiasm to the league. Almost 120+ employees participate in this league and management happily organizes even in an important period of the third and fourth quarters of the business year. Diwali ends and cricket fever gets started. Teams are selected, captains are decided, and teams
gather on the grounds post work, practice a lot and battle begins on the ground. It is not a mere game but it is a tussle of psychology, a tussle of skills, a tussle of fitness, and a tussle of supporters. Many of us hone different skills in this period.
Since 2015, I am playing for ‘ACR (E) Purandar Warriors Team’. I have played a major contributor role in all those matches which has given me a name and identity.
Apart from our daily work performance, it is an opportunity for us to create an identity by participating in such initiatives.
A record-breaking 32 men's teams participated in the league last year. Additionally, two women's cricket teams are now part of this league since past two years. Also, KPCL has started other sports leagues like football, badminton, etc. this year to address the larger interest.

Through my experiences in playing cricket, I have gained valuable insights and learned important lessons. Here are the key takeaways from my cricketing journey:
1.
There is no substitute for hard work and practice: Gladwell says, it requires 10,000 hours or ten years to master a skill, which is so true in cricket.
Life Lesson: There is no alternative to hard work when it comes to mastering any skill. Practice helps in building good habits like punctuality, discipline, and positive thinking.
2.
Collaboration: Teamwork
As said by Rohit Sharma: “Individual Brilliance wins a few games, unity wins Championships”
Life Lesson: Teams working together often win over a more skilled group of individuals.
3.
Your Fitness is more important than Your Skills
The person who performs consistently in the team is usually the one who is the fittest.
Life Lesson: Health is real wealth and must be your priority while developing your career.
6.
Keep Innovating
We often saw in cricket that new players perform well at the start and then they lost their touch.
I guess it is because they stopped improving their game.
Life lesson: Innovation is an infinite game to stay competitive and perform well consistently.
Who Handles the Pressure Better, Wins More
In cricket, you experience the pressure of: Avoiding giving extra runs, hitting the final run to complete your century, chasing the big score, holding the important catches which help in building your pressure handling muscle.
Life lesson: The more difficult situation you overcome, the stronger the person you become in life.
You Can’t Hit a Six on Every Ball
Planning your innings is crucial as it is unlikely to hit a six on every ball. Singles & doubles play a vital role in scoring a hundred. Similarly, in life, it is hard to get your ultimate goal at once. You have to work your way up, step by step.
Life Lesson: Have a clear goal and keep moving towards it one step at a time. On this journey, there will be instances you’ll get a chance to make a few jumps. Keep your eyes open to capitalize on those opportunities.
Better Luck Next Time
Every day is a new day; you can’t perform at your best all the time.
Take all the learnings from your failure, and spend all your energies on improving your game.
Life Lesson: Failure is nothing but feedback, and improving your life game is an infinite process with those feedbacks.

as well as representing the STES ROCKETRY TEAM of which I have been a member for 1.5 years and the head of business development for the past 8 months. My individual project was titled- Thermo Solar Concentrator for Steam Generation and my team project was titled- Acoustic LEVItator, which was headed by my friends and teammates Swayam Sonar and Chitrarth Kadel.
The reason I chose to explore the Thermo-Solar area was my interest in sustainable energy as a field, my previous experience and knowledge on the Solar EV and Solar Charging Station projects and the dormant interest I had developed after watching a docuseries, India’s Mega Kitchen: Akshay Patra Shirdi, two years back. I started the research with case studies of use of steam in mega kitchens of Mt. Abu, Tirupati and Shirdi. But what started as a case study project, ended up with me making a representative model for Thermo-Solar Concentrator where the steam generated could be put to various other applications including REFRIGERATION! My interest “levitated” by the ways we could use the sunlight without using solar panels. The application of Thermo-solar concentrators in desalination of water, air conditioning and solar incineration is something that should be more widespread as it can solve the water shortage
issues, hazardous waste management issues and the major challenge of global warming and climate change. On dark cloudy days, the sun rays give us hope and energy, in the same way, they promise us hope for a better future.
My report included a complete review of the models and their applications and the poster was designed to represent the sun, the concentrator (reflecting surfaces) and the steam.
I won the 3rd prize for my project. An Anti-Cyber Bullying Algorithm won the 2nd prize. What my project lacked was a working model and the fact that it wasn’t the Acoustic LEVItator!
LEVI is the name of the Acoustic Levitator, a project that the STES ROCKETRY TEAM has been working on for the past 6 months as a payload to the rocket STELLAR EYE that will take off at the Latin America Space Challenge 2023 to be held from 24th to 27th August 2023.
The Stellar Eye will be carrying Project LEVI, a non-Deployable Payload of an Acoustic levitator which is an array of ultrasonic transducers to generate a standing acoustic pressure field for exerting radiation force on small objects, allowing them to be trapped and relocated in three-dimensional space. The design of the team's payload is inspired from “prolate spheroidal” shape which can be simply called as a “symmetrical egg” like which is made from PLA+ while the levitating object is concluded to be a Styrofoam bead. The levitation works based on standing waves and nodes-antinodes. A cylindrical metallic enclosure made from Aluminium 6061
covers the entire structure. This will be carried to an altitude of 10,000 feet, for studying Oobleck-like fluid (non-Newtonian) or solid materials and acoustic levitation in an elevated environment of high thrust forces and low pressure; and its dampening properties on the object that would be levitated. The goal of the payload experiment includes the evaluation of performance of the levitation mechanism in order to promote future iteration and development of such scientific payloads. With the purpose of using this knowledge to design a stable containment unit for hazardous or fragile materials that may be put into a rocket.
The levitator is demonstrated keeping space transportation as the primary application but it doesn’t limit the concept of gripping objects mid-air. It can be used in microprocessor industries, medical and chemical industries.
LEVI and the STES ROCKETRY TEAM deserved to win the competition and we did. But we consider this as the build-up for the main event in Brazil. With preparations in full throttle, we hope to “levitate” our world rank from 3 (LASC’22) to 1 with our projects STELLAR EYE and LEVI in the upcoming Latin America Space Challenge 2023 in Sao Paolo, Brazil. We are determined to bring home the trophy that the Midnight Sun (LASC’22) failed to bring. We are ready for flight… ready to levitate!

WISDOM AT WORK
3 Modern leadership lessons from Greek mythology
The Trojan War provides great leadership lessons for the Greeks that are still relevant today. This one comes from before the Greek Army conquered the City of Troy. Achilles had just given up his life in the war. His suit of armor was to be awarded to the most valued living soldier in the Greek army. Odysseus and Ajax both made claims for the Achilles Prize. King Agamemnon wanted to give it to Odysseus, but he didn't want to bear the burden of Ajax's anger at the result. Instead, the king assigned the responsibility for choosing the winner to a group of Tribal Leaders. The two men were invited to compete for the prize. All were certain that Odysseus would be the winner. The competition was set to favor his great gift. It was a competition of words and intellect rather than action and strength.
Lesson One: Rewards Can Damage Your Team
The Tribal Leaders did as Agamemnon predicted and declared Odysseus the winner of the Achilles Prize. Ajax protested and demanded that they reconsider their decision. When the decision was re-confirmed, Ajax went into a rage. He slaughtered a flock of the tribe's sheep, seeing them in his madness as stand-ins for the king and Odysseus. Ultimately he took his own life by falling on his sword and left behind his wife and young child. If the reward will do more damage than good, don't use it.
Lesson Two: Build Your Team Based on Real Values
The irony in the story is that the Achilles Prize is wholly symbolic. As a suit of armor, it is far too large for Odysseus and far too small for Ajax. Its symbolic value was far greater than its actual value. When defining organizational or individual values, the same lesson holds true. Build your team based on their true core values - not on symbolic values that carry little meaning and therefore have no benefit for the tribe.
Lesson Three: Make Your Own Tough Decisions
Agamemnon had already chosen the winner of the Achilles Prize. However, he was fearsome of Ajax's reaction and so he created the contest and set the Tribal Leaders up to act in his stead. Ajax's extreme negative reaction was not prevented by creating a pretense of a rational decision-making process. Nothing is made better when leaders create false processes with the appearance of autonomy that favor a predetermined outcome. That's not leading; it's hiding behind your role. Don't risk losing your credibility and the credibility of your Tribal Leaders by hiding out.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)
AI is a concept that has been around, formally, since the 1950s, when it was defined as a machine's ability to perform a task that would've previously required human intelligence.
Some experts define intelligence as the ability to adapt, solve problems, plan, improvise in new situations, and learn new things. And today's AI systems might demonstrate some traits of human intelligence, including learning, problem-solving, perception, and even a limited spectrum of creativity and social intelligence.
Artificial intelligence can be divided into three categories: narrow AI, general AI, and super AI. Artificial narrow intelligence (ANI) is crucial to voice assistants, such as Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant. ANI might often be referred to as weak AI. Artificial general intelligence (AGI) , also known as strong AI. This type of intelligence is more on the
level of the human intellect, as AGI systems would be able to reason and think like a human. Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) is a system that wouldn't only rock humankind to its core but could also destroy its sound as in science fiction novels. ASI is a system where the intelligence of a machine surpasses all forms of human intelligence, in all aspects, and outperforms humans in every function.
Company is leading the AI race such as Google's parent company, Alphabet where DeepMind continues to pursue artificial general intelligence, Microsoft, Baidu, Alibaba, Cruise, Lenovo, Tesla, and more.
Will an AI steal your job?
Yes, but some commonplace artificial intelligence won't replace all jobs, what seems to be certain is that AI will change the nature of work, with the only question being how rapidly and how profoundly automation will alter the workplace.

Unleashing the power of ChatGPT
“Chat GPT, powered by OpenAI's GPT3.5 architecture, is an advanced language model designed to engage in dynamic conversations with users. It leverages machine learning techniques to generate humanlike responses and has been
trained on a wide range of text data from the internet. With its ability to understand context and produce coherent replies, Chat GPT is a powerful tool for various applications.
Interacting with Chat GPT is straightforward. Users input a prompt or a series of messages,
and the model generates a response based on the provided information. The conversational nature of Chat GPT allows for backand-forth exchanges, creating a more interactive experience. By iterating the conversation, users can elicit detailed and contextually relevant answers from the model.
To maximize the effectiveness of Chat GPT, there are a few best practices to keep in mind:
1. Provide clear instructions: Start the conversation with a clear and concise prompt to guide the model's understanding and set expectations for the desired output.
2. Specify the format: If you require a specific format for the response, explicitly mention it in the instructions. For instance, you can ask for a bullet-point list, a paragraph, or even code snippets.
3. Experiment with temperature settings: The temperature parameter controls the randomness of the model's output. Higher values like 0.8 make responses more diverse but potentially less focused, while lower values like 0.2 make responses more deterministic and conservative.
4. Use system-level instructions: You can include system-level instructions within the conversation to guide the model's behavior. For example, you can instruct the model to speak like Shakespeare or imagine a futuristic scenario.
The versatility of Chat GPT allows it to be applied in various domains:
1. Customer Support: Chat GPT can handle basic customer inquiries, provide product recommendations, or guide users through troubleshooting processes. It can offer 24/7 support and assist with resolving common issues.
2. Content Generation: Writers and content creators can use Chat GPT to brainstorm ideas, generate outlines, or even draft sections of their work. It serves as a helpful writing companion, providing inspiration and suggestions.
3. Language Translation: Chat GPT can assist with language translation tasks by converting text from one language to another. It can facilitate communication between individuals who speak different languages.
4. Personal Assistants: With its conversational abilities, Chat GPT can act as a virtual personal assistant. It can manage schedules, answer questions, and provide relevant information, streamlining daily tasks.
5. Education and Learning: Students and educators can utilize Chat GPT to seek clarification on complex topics, obtain explanations for challenging concepts, or engage in interactive learning experiences.
In conclusion, Chat GPT, powered by GPT-3.5, offers a powerful conversational AI experience. By following best practices and leveraging its capabilities, users can unlock a wide range of applications across customer support, content generation, language translation, personal assistants, and education. Embrace the possibilities and explore the potential of Chat GPT in enhancing your interactions and workflows.

A visit to Gangaikonda Cholapuram Architecture of 11th Century AD
Gangaikondacholisvarar temple in Gangaikondacholapuram is the biggest temple constructed during the reign of Rajendra–I in the Ariyalur region. Following the conquest of the Gangetic plains in A.D. 1023, Rajendra–I built a great city called Gangaikondacholapauram, a Siva temple Gangaikondacholisvarar and a lake Chola Gangam in commemoration of his victory.
The new capital shifted from Thanjavur to Gangaikondacholapuram, held as capital for 256 years.
This temple is a living history of the Cholas in stone from the period of Rajendra-I and a beautiful gallery of Chola art and architecture. Many sculptures brought from Andhra, Karnataka, and Bengal as war trophies are also preserved in the temple and the nearby villages. Chandesura Anugraha Murthy and Sarasvathy are the most beautiful sculptures of the temple.
The beauty of the temple speaks for itself. The temple has 9 storey vimanam that rises to a height of 185 feet. On the east side of the temple, one can see the beautiful carvings and incredible structures. The structure of the temple is similar to that of the Brihadeeswara Temple. The temple structure is built at a height of 54.86m. One can see the rich carvings all over the temple that are unique to the Cholas style
of artistry. One can also see intricate carvings on the vimanams of the temple that are believed to be taken from the North Indian temples. All the carvings are made on granite stones. The walls and ceilings of the temple are adorned with outstanding sculptures. Like any other temples built by the Cholas, the sculptors are creative and show the artistic taste of the Cholas. The most beautiful sculptures in the temple are that of Ganesha, dancing Nataraj, Goddess Saraswati, Shiv-Parvathi, and Ardhanareshwar.

Interesting Facts
Here are few interesting facts about this temple (reference: Wikipedia):
y Gangaikonda Cholapuram was built during medieval India and was erected as the capital of the Cholas by Rajendra Chola I, the son and successor of Rajaraja Chola, the great Chola king who conquered a large area in south India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Sumatra, Kadaram (Kedahin Malaysia), Cambodia and others at the beginning of the 11th century A.D.
y The city was founded to commemorate Rajendra Chola l's victory over the Pala Dynasty. The name means the town of the Chola who took over Ganga (water from Ganga) or who defeated (the kings near) Ganga.
y The Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple he constructed consists of three stories and was surrounded by a huge fort-like wait. The outer wall was largely destroyed during the British rule {1896) to reuse the building material (granite rocks) for constructing the dam built across the river Kollidam.
y The vimanam (temple tower) of the temple is 55 m (180 ft) high which is 3 m (9.8 ft) smaller than the Thanjavur temple. The temple is modelled similar to the Brihadeeswarar Temple at Thanjavur. It is also called as feminine counterpart of Thanjavur temple because of the resemblance between the two.
y The image of the Lingam (an iconic representation of Shiva) is 4 m (13 f t) tall and is the largest in size among the Lingas in Tamilnadu temples.
y There is an image of Nandi located axially 200 m (660 ft) facing the sanctum, which is constructed in such a way that it reflects Sun light on to the sanctum.
y As per the available evidences, the last Chola King Rajendra Chola Il l's rule did not end due to any defeat in the war field. But, devastations are available underneath, which proves that some major catastrophe happened around Gangaikonda Cholapuram which brought the Chola's Rule to an end.
