Kirkham Grammar School Junior, Infant and Pre-School Issue 13 Friday 13 May 2016 Dear Parents Finally, the weather has improved and, as we look forward to tomorrow, I only hope that the sun shines upon us for our Mad Hatters Tea Party! I am indebted to the Friends of Kirkham Grammar School for their hard work in organising this event and I do encourage you to come along and support. There will be lots on offer for everyone, both young and old! Last week we had a visit from Mr Adrian Boyer, Head of Silcoates School, who spent the day with us to observe the teaching and learning within the school and to talk to the children. I am delighted to report that his feedback on both the teaching and learning and the school generally was extremely positive. Our J3 children have visited Waddow Hall in Clitheroe this week and, looking at the photographs, it is evident that they had a wonderful time. The J4 children have much to look forward to over the coming weeks and I am delighted to have witnessed their engagement and commitment in the classroom, which has resulted in some wonderful academic work. Thursday morning saw the introduction of a House Assembly led by the House Captains, the purpose of which was to discuss a new venture - a House Singing Competition which will replace the House Music and Drama Competition. All Junior children will be involved and there was much discussion around the choice of song. Staff are also allocated a House and will be taking part, however Mr Lockett and Mrs Shuttleworth are banned from the process!!!! I look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow at the Spring Fair. On Tuesday 10 May, Siân Percival-Edwards from Heartbeat came into school to run a variety of workshops throughout the day for all classes. These covered First Aid skills, Understanding Food, Healthy Hearts and ‘What’s in my Drink?’. All the children found these workshops incredibly interesting as well as valuable and we thank Lytham Lions of St Anne's for their very kind sponsorship.
