Kirkham Grammar School Junior, Infant and Pre-School Issue 11 Thursday 24 March 2016 Dear Parents Although this term has been shorter than usual, it has been a very fruitful one indeed, particularly on the academic front. As I have visited the classrooms, I have been impressed with some of the outstanding academic work produced. In Sport, our Girls and Boys Hockey Teams both went through to the North of England Finals, the Girls becoming eventual winners and the Boys runners up. It was also lovely to see so many parents at our Cheese and Wine Performing Arts Evening. I am sure you will agree, there was a great atmosphere and I was as proud as always, of the wonderful performances from the children. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my staff, without whom none of these wonderful activities would take place. For those of you who are not already aware, last week, we welcomed Mr Daniel Berry, our new Headmaster. He has already visited the Junior School on numerous occasions, to spend time with both pupils and staff. I am sure you will join me in wishing him a very successful future at KGS. In the last week or so, I couldn’t help but notice that some of the children are now struggling with fatigue and minor ailments, and I therefore hope that after working so hard this term, they enjoy their well deserved Easter break (along with parents too!). Wishing you a peaceful Easter holiday. Mrs AS Roberts Follow me on Twitter: Annette Roberts @KGJShead
On Thursday 17 March, the whole school came together for a very special assembly, which included a skype call to Dawa in Nepal. The children told Dawa all about their fantastic fundraising for the school charity, Classrooms in the Clouds, and then Mrs Roberts presented a cheque to Sarah Hagan, a trustee from the charity. During her visit, Sarah was also given I2’s ‘peach’ which is making its way around the world. Sarah will now take the peach to Nepal and when she returns, the I2 children will learn about all the activities it has experienced while on its travels!!
