Thank you for your interest in our holidays to Spain and Portugal, we very much hope that this brochure inspires you to visit the Iberian Peninsula. There is perhaps no other part of the world which offers such a perfect mix of warm sunshine, dynamic cities, delicious cuisine and fine wines as well as great art, architecture and history, to create the perfect destination for a revitalising short break. Our experienced team is passionate about both Spain and Portugal, and we would be delighted to share our in-depth knowledge – from the magnificent cities of Seville, Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon and Oporto, to wonderful smaller towns, including Toledo, Segovia, La Coruña and Coimbra, and both countries’ astonishing variety of rural and coastal regions. As anyone who has visited the region will tell you, Spanish and Portuguese hospitality is legendary, with the next delicious glass of ‘fino,’ 'porto' or 'madeira' never too far away – as well as the fine wines of La Rioja and the Ribera del Duero. The Kirker Concierge will guide you to the best tapas and pintxos bars and to our favourite restaurants where you can enjoy alfresco fine dining or perhaps relax over a plate of fresh grilled sardines with a glass of chilled Albariño wine. Few countries offer such a wealth of great art and culture – from world-renowned galleries such as the Prado in Madrid and the Gulbenkian in Lisbon, to newer museums including Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim in Bilbao and the striking glass cube of Malaga’s Pompidou. As well as the art of El Greco, Goya, Gaudi, Dali, Miró, Picasso, Sorolla and Velazquez, the region offers visitors a wonderful blend of music, opera, gardens and architecture – from the ornate palaces in Sintra to Gaudi’s iconic masterpieces in Barcelona and Calatrava’s striking City of Arts & Sciences in Valencia; all of which are perfect ingredients for a great short break. We suggest you book one of our expert local guides for a private walking tour; just ask the Kirker Concierge for details at the time of booking. For those who have already visited the major cities, our team would be delighted to share some of their favourite offthe-beaten-path destinations: perhaps Galicia in the north-west – home to the great pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela; the proud Basque Country in the north; the dramatically-sited vineyards of the Douro Valley on the west coast; or the traditional ‘pueblos blancos’ of Andalucia in the south. And for year-round sunshine and unspoilt landscapes, don’t forget the islands of Mallorca,Tenerife and Madeira, where we can recommend charming hotels in the best locations to escape the madding crowd. To make the most of your time, we highly recommend a tailor-made itinerary which combines two or more destinations – perhaps with a journey on the high-speed AVE trains which link Madrid with Seville and Barcelona in only two and a half hours – or the slick intercity service between Lisbon and Oporto. All our holidays include private car transfers, but for those on longer itineraries, we can arrange car hire and would certainly recommend this if you plan to visit smaller towns and rural areas, such as Castille & León with its UNESCO World Heritage cities of Toledo, Segovia with its vast Roman aqueduct, and Avila, still surrounded by intact mediaeval walls. We also highly recommend the charming Paradors and Pousadas throughout the region, many of which are housed in magnificent historic buildings in prominent positions. There has never been a better time to visit the Iberian Peninsula, so please don’t hesitate to contact us. If you do decide to book with Kirker, we shall do our utmost to ensure the smooth running of every aspect of your holiday; before, during and after your return. We very much look forward to hearing from you.

KIRKER HOTELS We feature some wonderful properties covering a range of styles, from small, family-run riads to the finest luxury hotels. For each hotel description we retain editorial control and are therefore able to provide you with a balanced and unbiased view of each property. To help you choose the hotel best suited to your needs, please telephone 020 7593 2288 and speak to one of our expert consultants who would be delighted to share their first hand experience of the hotels and destinations. If you would like to view photographs of our hotels, please visit our website, www.kirkerholidays.com where you will find a number of images for each property. However, please remember that website photographs can sometimes provide a seductive picture that may have been taken through rose-tinted spectacles on a sunny day – speaking to one of our Kirker experts is a better way to help you find the hotel that perfectly suits your needs and expectations.
You may choose to visit two or more destinations in one holiday. Fly into one airport and back from another – why not include a mixture of air travel with rail? Our experienced tailor-made department can help you to get the most out of your holiday. We thoroughly recommend longer itineraries combining a few days in a city followed by three or four nights relaxing in one of our countryside or coastal properties. We take immense pride in creating carefully crafted holidays, and although we are not necessarily the cheapest, we do aim to offer exceptional overall value for money and rely on our clients for repeat business and recommendations for our future success.
Kirker guide notes We are proud of our knowledge of the destinations we feature and have prepared some useful Guide Notes giving invaluable information on restaurants, bars, museums, shopping, markets and sightseeing. The Kirker Guide Notes will be sent to you with your travel documentation – please do ask us if you would like a personal restaurant recommendation, our Kirker Concierge would be delighted to book a table on your behalf.
Private transfers Our holidays include private transfers on arrival and on departure – instantly removing the anxiety that many experience when arriving in an unfamiliar destination. No taxis, no fare negotiation – just a warm welcome and a smooth journey to your chosen hotel. Certain holidays to rural destinations include hire car, however, private transfers can always be provided if preferred.
kirker concierge We aim to offer a service that is complete from start to finish, whether you would like us to recommend and book a restaurant for a celebration dinner, arrange private guided tours, organise wine-tasting or cookery courses, we will take full responsibility for the smooth running of every aspect of your holiday.
Speak to an expert Our sales team has many years of experience and we make regular visits to the hotels that we feature. Clients often comment that they have seen a tempting photograph on a hotel’s website but would prefer to speak to someone who knows the property because they need to find out what it is really like.
Private tours Whenever you arrive in a new destination for the first time, we recommend a short private walking tour or a tour with a private car if appropriate. Why not ask us to pre-book one of our local guides to meet you in your hotel foyer on your first morning for a two or three hour private excursion?
Fly from your local airport We always try to book flights from your local airport, and, although we recommend flights with scheduled airlines, we can also book seats with ‘no frills’ carriers if you wish.
Ground arrangements only If you have already booked your own flight tickets we would be happy to book all other aspects of your holiday, e.g. transfers and hotel accommodation. Prices include breakfast, tax and service at the hotel, plus transfers and Kirker extras.

We charge you the price we pay plus £10 per ticket. Telephone 020 7593 2286 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
If you are planning to celebrate a special occasion in style, why not consider taking a small group of friends on a private jet holiday? Pestana A Brasileira Known for serving the first cup of coffee in Porto at the beginning of the 20th century, ‘A Brasileira Café’ has not just been carefully restored but has become the focal point of this new hotel, opened in 2018, inside a heritage mansion. The theme of coffee, as well as spice, tea and chocolate, all imported from the Portuguese maritime heyday in the 15th and 16th centuries, form the cornerstone of the hotel’s style and provide themes for the 89 classically furnished rooms, some offering wonderful views over the surrounding historic buildings. The restaurant is inspired by traditional Portuguese cuisine with a contemporary twist. Close to the central Ribeira district, the hotel is well placed to explore the city. The Douro River runs immediately in front of the Pestana Porto, and there are magnificent views from the hotel of the port wine houses on the opposite bank. THE ALGARVE Although a popular summer holiday destination, a stay in the Algarve in the Spring and Autumn is highly recommended when temperatures are mild and the region is much quieter than during the busier summer months. With 300 days of sunshine a year, it is also a good option for those looking for some winter sun. Famous for its rugged coastline of stunning rock formations and beautiful sandy beaches there is much more on offer including some wonderful seafood, interesting towns such as the mediaeval fortresses of Silves and Sagres, and peaceful hilltop villages like Loulé and Monchique. With good air and rail links to Lisbon and Oporto, the region can easily be combined with other destinations in Portugal as part of a tailor-made holiday. Grand House
The town of Vila Real de Santo António is situated on the banks of the River Guadiana which separates Portugal and Spain and has a completely different atmosphere from the busy tourist resorts to the west of Faro. San António beach, often deserted, is a few minutes’ drive away, as is Castro Marim with its mediaeval castle and ancient salt pans. The immaculately restored Grand House, overlooking the marina, opened in 2018 and offers outstanding service and Belle Époque design capturing the spirit of the ‘Roaring Twenties’, with its mix of colonial furnishings, antiques and nautical themes. The 31 light-filled bedrooms have an array of period details including intricate mouldings and crystal chandeliers. The restaurant is exceptional and offers exquisite regional cuisine. Lighter dishes are served at the contemporary ‘Grand Beach Club’ (a five minute drive by complimentary shuttle) where you will also find a swimming pool and a sun deck overlooking a small beach. Bela Vista When this 19th century jewel opened as a hotel in 1934, it was the first of note on the Algarve. At the time, Praia da Rocha was a sleepy village and although it is now a lively resort town, this precious hotel has managed to maintain an oasis-like tranquillity which is immediately apparent as you pass though the high, wrought-iron entrance gates. After extensive renovation, Bela Vista reopened in 2011 and has 38 bedrooms housed in the Palace, Garden House and the Blue House. Whilst these rooms are decorated in a modern, contemporary style with some vibrant colours they still retain some classical touches such as painted wooden ceilings and wonderful wall tiles. A member of Relais & Châteaux, it is situated on a promontory with direct private access to the wonderful sandy beach below. There is a swimming pool, a L’Occitane spa and a superb Michelin starred gastronomic restaurant, ‘Vista’, with its terrace and delightful sea views. Praia da Rocha is located an hour’s drive from Faro airport. No children under the age of 12 accepted. 3 night price from £698 per person low season, £849 per person high season.
