Luxury Sensory Interior

This is a vehicle interior that delivers a sensory experience for users focusing on the senses of smell, touch and sight. Through the use of bespoke fragrances, contemporary textures and LED ambient lighting the interior will transform into an environment unique to each individual creating a space that develops an emotional bond with the user. The interior will incorporate textures and materials not traditionally found in cars resulting in a setting that encourages both exploration and interaction.

Emotions in Design Emotions play a large part in the desire and drive to own a product. Users are able to accept their product’s shortcomings and limitations as long as the product is pleasing to look at or the product makes the user feel better about themselves for owning it, making its limitations and monitory value irrelevant.

People have longer lasting relationships with products when they have some form of emotional bond with that product, often taking time and money in the care of the product as seen with vehicles which have been restored by their owners(Pieter Desmet 2002).

A new car interior must speak to the user on an emotional level in order to create an experience for a lasting memory. .

Touch

Touch is our connnection to interacting with the physical world.

Reading ambient temperature, even wind pressure are forms of touch.

Touch is not just for defense, but allows us to gain security and feedback from materials and goods. For instance, a driver will run their hand along the steering wheel to gain material feedback creating a sense of security.

Customers are more inclined to purchase a product if they can touch and feel it; this gives reassurance about the product whilst valuing its quality and worth.

Sight

Sight is the principal sense for humans.

Particular brands can be identified simply by their “signature” colour for example: red can be related to Coca-Cola (Marc Gobe 2009).

Sight is the first sense to evoke emotions in people particularly when it’s a product a person aspires to own.

Colours are not physically tangible, but a perception through the eyes and mind.

Smell

Smell is known as the strongest of the five senses.

Scent related memories tend to be the most vivid recollections for most. The brain has more connections to the sense of smell than any other sense.

This gives the nose direct access to the Hippocampus. Scents are not filtered by the brain, any memories created are automatically linked to a scent within the subconscious affecting moods and even sleep patterns.

Design Detail

Mycoply seat construction uses a environmentally friendly honey comb structure made from mycological biomaterial. The structure removes the need for metal spring supports and considerably reduces the weight and space.
