“What feels like the end is often the beginning”
Kipling School’s graduating students stunned the attending crowd as they strolled through the beautifully decorated archway and down the lit pathway to the stage, arm in arm with their proud parents, to the melodies including “Time”, “You’re Gonna Miss This”, “100 Years”, “Don’t Blink”, “Small Towns and Big Dreams” and “Old School”. As the graduates reached the stage, they embraced their parents for the last time as high school students and proceeded to their white covered chairs along the black and silver decorated stage. Approximately 500 guests attended the 2018 Kipling School Graduation on Saturday, June 9th to celebrate the
honoured students. Mistress and Master of Ceremonies Niaa Kuhn and Dawson DeDecker kept the program in order with their organized speeches throughout the graduation event. After announcing the graduates to the stage and welcoming the guests, Sherri Singer directed the audience with piano accompaniment for the singing of “O Canada” and played “God Save the Queen” at the end of the graduation ceremony. The emcees announced “We would like to acknowledge that as we celebrate our graduates today, we gather united on Treaty 4 Territory as our way to recognize that we are all treaty people who are committed to honouring
the spirit and the intent on the day.” Following the greetings to special visitors and guests, Charla Smyth gave a special speech to the graduates on part of Kipling and area ministerial and announced the gift of a bible from the Parkland Bible Church. “Go out from here and learn stuff,” Deputy Mayor Pat Jackson, representing Town of Kipling and area, said to the listening graduates. “Look for what you want and come back when you find it, use it here to help educate others and help our communities grow.” “Congratulations, you are our future and from what I see, the future looks good!” Mrs. Terry Berglund said to

Dr. Robert Kitchen, Member of Parliament for the Souris-Moose Mountain Constituency, entered the stage with wise words of caution as they enter the next stage in life. the staged students. He spoke of the lessons learned in life and how we can truly learn from all of them. He told the students of their two most important days, the day they were born and the day they realized why they were born. He presented a list of lessons that can be learned from in life including Responsibility, Opportunity and Success, Struggle and Emerge, leave a legacy, the power of NOW and reminded the students “Don’t just exist in life – make a life list!” He reminisced of a list made by the graduates a few years back including entries like traveling around the world and to outer space, attending Oktoberfest, growing facial hair, going to “collage”, beat-
ing Luke in an arm wrestle and growing over six feet tall. Graduating students Brynn Stutt and Rory Weeding replied on behalf of the graduates with funny and charming memories of their teachers and fellow students. Rory joked about getting through his speech without getting interrupted with a quick glance at the seated students on stage. They shared the memories of printing off 600 pages instead of 6 relating to the life lesson about pushing buttons, how teachers messed up names and how others patiently waited for cell phones to be turned off. The duo spoke of how their class feared romance after reading Romeo and Juliet and Continued on Page 2
