εμπειρίες experiences

εποχιακές seasonal

Enjoy the grape harvest and pressing (from mid-August until late-September)

Participate in the grape harvest at our vineyard on the hill across the mansion, followed by the traditional ritual of grapes stomping, performed with bare feet in the old wine press as in the ancient times and accompanied with Greek music, good mood and Kinsterna’s wines.

‘Tsipouro’ distillation, traditional Greek spirit (specific weekends | October only)

Approximately forty days after the grapes are crushed, the production of tsipouro commences. Tsipouro is the perfect accompaniment to a variety of appetizers and freshly baked bread. The process of producing tsipouro takes place using the estate’s own Ottoman sealed cauldron from 1890. At the end of this process, you can take home a bottle of tsipouro that you have made yourself!

Οlive harvest & production of olive oil (from October until December)

The production of olive oil is one of Greece’s most important agricultural activities for thousands of years. When the olives are mature, Kinsterna’s gardeners demonstrate to our visitors, how to harvest the olives in the orchard. Altogether, we gather the fruits by hand with small rakes and olive nets placed on the ground. The olives are then crushed having our horse walking around the old stone mill, producing the fresh olive oil of the season, like it was done in the past. Whoever so desires may also prepare table olives according to Kinsterna’s simple traditional recipe.

The gorgeous castle town of Monemvasia is an authentic treasure of enormous historical, architectural, cultural and geographical importance. Today, its historic churches, such as the Byzantine church of St. Sophia, castle walls, low arches, vaulted passageways and its winding cobbled streets and alleys all speak of its medieval past. This Byzantine fortress, coveted down through the ages by all the powers around the Mediterranean: Venetians, Franks, Arabs, Saracens and Turks, stands today imperiously at the entrance to one of the most enchanting corners of Peloponnese.
