WOODROW KELLUM JR Woodrow Wilson Kellum Jr., 74, of King and Queen County, entered into eternal life on Friday, April 1, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Wilson Sr. and Jane Frances Kellum. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; two sons, Donald Wray Kellum (Donna) and James Darrell Kellum (Christy); granddaughters, Krystal Laine (Barrett), Kinley, Chesney, Skyllar and Brystal Kellum; and grandson, Colton Kellum. A memorial of his life was held at Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, Mechanicsville, Va. at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2016. Harlean Bibb Snead, 77, of Highland Springs, previously of King William, found peace after a four-year illness, on April 18, 2016. Harlean was born on July 6, 1938 in Oak Hill, West Virginia to the late Marian F. Bibb and Lorena V. Scott. Harlean was a hard worker; she raised a family and attended night school for 10 years to obtain her college degree. That determination enabled her to work for the Virginia Department of Taxation until her retirement. Harlean and her loving husband shared a love of softball. She loved MILDRED SEAL the Redskins football SNEAD Mildred G. Seal, 97, passed away Saturday, team- her son was her April 2, 2016. She was preceded in death by football “Buddy.” One of her husband, Lewis H. Seal; and son, Joseph J. her greatest joys was playing Poker in her weekly leagues- playing Poker was a love she shared with her daughter and family, but her greatest love will always be her loving husband of almost 63 years William. Harlean survived by her husband Lease has been renewed! Vanessa is back in isWilliam F. Snead Sr., whom she the salon! New bulbs have been installed! married in 1953. Her children Pura Sunless has been serviced! Elaine (Gator) S. England and William (Debbie) F. JAMES STRANGEWAY James (Jim) William Strangeway, age 68, went to be with the Lord on March 16, 2016. Jim was born in Delhi, New York, on February 19, 1948. He is survived by the love of his life, Ellen, his wife of 46 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Strangeway and is survived by his mother, Betty Strangeway of Mechanicsville. He is survived by his daughters, Michelle Strangeway Rother (John) of Deltaville and Lisa Strangeway Cozino of Chesterfield; one sister, Joan Cole (Robert) of King William; a sister-in-law Marissa Craig of West Henrietta, N.Y.; and nieces, Tiffany Craig Brown and Marisadeann Craig, also of West Henrietta. Also surviving are grandchildren, Kelsey, Austin, Kayla, Andrew, Neil, James Blaine, Tony and various aunts and cousins. Jim will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A United States Marine, Jim served in Vietnam where he began his lifelong career as a heavy equipment mechanic. Upon discharge from the Marine Corps, he worked for Lane Construction, Meriden, Connecticut and moved to Richmond during construction of Powhite Parkway as a field technician. He later worked for Ledbetter Construction before starting his own companies, Central Equipment and Central Excavators. He career of repairing diesel and heavy equipment spanned some 50 years, and he was considered an expert in his field, always offering knowledge and advice to others. A talented equipment operator, Jim also donated his time and the use of his equipment to local ministries. From childhood, Jim loved fishing and pursued his passion of fishing on the Chesapeake Bay for several years and in retirement. He also had a passion for motorcycles. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Whitestone Church of the Nazarene, 57 Whisk Drive, White Stone, Va. RICHARD TOWNSEND JR Richard Lee Townsend Jr., 73, born February 1, 1943, passed away peacefully at his home in Bridgton, Maine, on April 22, 2016. Rick grew up in Baltimore, Md., and on his father’s farm Pampatike in Manquin, Va. Eventually, the family moved to Pompano Beach, Fla., where Rick graduated high school as Valedictorian and met
his wife, Laurel Ann. After receiving bachelor’s and master’s degrees from MIT in electrical engineering (EE) in 1965, he earned a Ph.D. in EE from Stanford University in 1969. Rick accepted a job as a Member of Technical Staff at AT&T in Berkeley Heights, N.J., and later moved as a Supervisor with Lucent Technologies. Rick retired from Lucent in 2007 after TOWNSEND JR 38 years of service. He then took a job traveling around the world as a lead telecommunications standards representative for Lucent. Laurel often joined Rick in his global adventures. He managed to visit all seven continents; the last was Antarctica. Family and friends were very important to Rick. Laurel was the love of his life. Rick was very proud of his two children, Scott Richard and Kristin Lynn. They delighted his life at every stage of their growing up. Rick was a very involved parent, sharing his passions and encouraging and coaching in their sports activities. His grandchildren, Zachary and Emma, brought him much joy. His friends were numerous and he kept close ties with high school friends, college roommates and classmates, Porsche Club buddies and his New Jersey Berkeley Heights and Holmdel neighbors. Rick’s hobbies included tenting with the family in National Parks, driving his Porsche with the Porsche Club at race tracks around the country, and traveling and cruising around the world with friends and family. His favorite was his African safari with Porsche Club friends. Rick was an avid woodworker, making many wooden gifts, including cradles for his grandchildren. Rick retired to Bridgton, Maine, where he met more wonderful neighbors. Rick will be sorely missed by all his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Lee and Florence Hoyle Townsend. He is survived by his wife, Laurel Ann, of 52 years; his children, Scott Richard and Kristin Lynn (David); and his grandchildren, Zachary Bern and Emma Rebecca. The family received friends Friday, April 29, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Townsend family homestead, Queenfield, 1042 Dabneys Mill Road, Manquin, Va. 23106. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016, at McKendree United Methodist Church, 4347 Manfield Road, Manquin, Va. 23106.
