PARISH OF KINGSWOOD Dear fellow parishioners of Kingswood,
I
t was with immense disappointment, sadness and frustration that we finally took the decision that we could not, in 2020, hold our annual Parish Fete. We know no one who can recall a time when the fete did not take place, but circumstances this year are, as
we have heard and experienced time and again, unprecedented. Our parish is a wonderful place to live and we are all very fortunate. The communities of Kingswood and Lower Kingswood are friendly, resilient, and supportive of those who live here. Although we have been socially distanced from one another and, in many cases, isolated from family and friends, we have not let any opportunity pass to carry on as normally as the situation allows: • our services on Sundays have continued online; • Revd Chris has run Zoom online ‘Wisdom Stories at Teatime’ sessions to keep contact with children in the parish; • an online Zoom concert ensured that our annual Summer Concert still went ahead; • we maintained contact with all on the parish electoral roll, (if you’re not on the roll come along to church and sign up); • we raised around £1,800 for a local Surrey charity supporting disabled young people; • donations to the Food Bank have been received and distributed, via St. Matthew’s Redhill, to support the poorest in our community. Since 5 July, the churches of St. Andrew and The Wisdom of God will have been open for private prayer between 10am and 11am on Sundays and we hope to be back to some semblance of normality by the time you receive this programme.
