WELCOME TO THE 2024 KINGSWOOD COLLEGE CAREERS & SUBJECT EXPO
Beyond the gates of Kingswood College is a world of possibilities - different degrees, courses, pathways and countless industries and fields of work.
While thinking about the future can be daunting for some, events like our Careers & Subject Expo are fantastic opportunities for students and families to start thinking and researching where the next chapter of their lives could be.
Our Careers & Subject Expo is designed for any career journey a student from Years 9 to 12 is on. Perhaps you may want to ask Alumni about their career pathway and decision-making process. Maybe you simply want to learn more about the VCE subjects available and which excite you the most. Or, you might talk to all the educational institutions to explore all the possibilities out there.
It’s always important to keep in mind that different careers require different levels of education and specific qualifications. Through research, students can identify the necessary educational pathways for careers of interest. This includes understanding what degrees, certifications, or apprenticeships are required, as well as any specialised
training or skills. By knowing these requirements early on, students can plan their academic journey more effectively.
Together, we encourage our families to have these important discussions together, do proper research and be open to all the exciting possibilities that are out there.

I am delighted to welcome several past students of Kingswood College to our Alumni Hub as part of our 2024 Careers & Subject Expo.
Alumni can undoubtedly offer invaluable guidance and inspiration to you, as students and parents or guardians, as someone who was also once a Kingswood College student. Consider asking topics around:
• Career Path and Experience
• Education and Skills
• Networking and Mentorship
• Work-Life Balance and Personal Development
Sarah Sage Careers & Pathways Coordinator• Advice for Secondary School Students
• Industry-Specific Questions
• Long-term Career Development
• Company and Role Specific
It is wonderful for our Alumni to represent a range of graduating years, industries and professions; I thank each of them for volunteering their time to support our community.

1989 Product Design
I studied Bachelor of Arts Industrial Design at RMIT from 199093. After graduation I freelanced in electronic music production and worked in hospitality and retail before returning to work as a commercial product designer in the late 90’s.
From late 1990-s to 2004 I worked with Blue Sky Design consultancy in Sydney and POSAM point of sale displays (for several well-known brands including Ryobi, and L’Oreal). I then moved to London and worked with Harman International (now owned by Samsung) where I led a small team designing high-end professional audio equipment 2005-2012. After a return once again to Melbourne, I worked with Outerspace Design Consutlancy, Gush Creative and Diam Displays from 2012 – 2019, also completing a Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Swinburne University.
After graduating in 2020, I joined AMES Australasia (Nylex, Cyclone, Hills) as Head of Design and Innovation, before joining Cygnett earlier this year as Industrial Design Manager.

I am a Lawyer and Director at Planning & Property Partners Pty Ltd (PPP), a boutique property & land development firm comprising both solicitors and urban planning consultants. After completing VCE at Kingswood, I studied a dual degree in Arts and Law at Deakin University, graduating with Honours in 2016.. During my final year of study I worked part-time at Kellehers Australia, a small suburban law firm in Burnley. In mid-2017, I moved to PPP, initially as a graduate lawyer, and became a Director of the firm in January 2023. My practice as a lawyer is predominantly focused on litigation in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Supreme Court regarding land development and property issues.
I started my career in the Leisure & Aquatics industry 12 years ago as part of my work experience place as a Year 10 student at Kingswood College. I managed to get a job from there as a Junior Futsal Referee at the Boroondara Sports Complex, from there sparked a passion for the industry where I essentially performed every casual role they had before moving into my first leadership role as the Customer Service Coordinator with The Y.
This then moved me into other roles at other facilities before stepping out of the industr to try something different. I also had the unique opportunity of a 6 week internship with The Y in Hong Kong which was a pretty incredible experience. Due to wanting to try other industries, I had a few management pit stops at Zoos Victoria and Yarra Valley Water; just like the cliche full circle I found myself back in Leisure & Aquatics where I am now the Venue Manager of Knox Leuisureworks where I lead over 10 full time staff, 160 casual staff, and manage a facility contract with revenue exceeding $5 million.

2014 Dietetics & Health
Since graduating I went into full time study at Deakin University where I completed a Bachelor in Food and Nutrition Science, majoring in Food Science. Towards the end of my bachelor’s degree, I also completed a certificate 3 & 4 in personal training and started working in the fitness industry soon after.
At the beginning of 2019 I started a Masters of Dietetics at Deakin and graduated in 2020.I am currently working in community health as a dietitian and have been working in the industry now for the last 3-4 years. I also still continue to work in the fitness industry where I run and develop group fitness training.
2000 Education
During my career in education, I have worked at ten schools across the eastern suburbs. My journey began as an OHSC Coordinator and as an Education Support teacher. I progressed as an educator and taught all year levels and led level and specialist teams as a middle leader. I worked for The Department of Education as a Teaching Partner to build outcomes in low performing schools, then as a Professional Learning Communities Practice Instructor to develop teacher capacity through training and support in all schools.
In the last seven years, I have held multiple positions as an Assistant Principal and am now an Acting Principal.

2019 Pro Netball
Upon graduating with the Class of 2019, Hannah attended University at the start of 2020, but dropped her course to pursue Netball full time and joined the Melbourne Vixens. In 2021, she received her official contract and went on to win the club’s Rookie of the Year Award. Since then she has gone from strength to strength, the speedy midcourter played a pivotal role in Australia’s Fast5 World Series gold medal and was among the top five feeders at the Australian Netball Championships. Hannah is super excited to have just recently made the Australian Diamonds squad!

After graduating in 2020, Sophie flew straight into a Bachelor of Communication Design with Honours at Swinburne University of Technology and has never looked back. Whilst currently in her Honours year, she is also undertaking a 12-month internship as part of her course at The Edison Agency, a strategic brand agency working for the love of imagination, rejuvenation and transformation. Sophie also works as the Head Designer of Swine magazine, Swinburne’s premiere student magazine.
In her spare time, she is a Classroom Music Tutor for the Australian Girls Choir.

2001 Law
Since leaving Kingswood, Doug completed a Bachelor of Legal Studies at LaTrobe University. In 2005 Doug joined the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria as a Trainee Court Registrar (TCR). Doug undertook the newly developed Certificate IV in Government (Court Services) where he learned the skills of clerking and operating different courts and hearing types, as well as registry functions associated with duties as a Registrar. During his time as a Registrar Doug has worked at various Magistrate Court locations around the state including Bendigo and Shepparton. Doug found his passion was coordinating where he would be responsible for working out the allocations of cases and Judicial Officers to hear the cases. This passion lead Doug to work as the Assistant to the State Coordinating Magistrate for a period of 5 years. Doug is currently working as a Registrar in the Online Magistrates’ Court where he manages cases to be heard online which provides greater access to the community.

1977
Engineering IT, Supply Chain & Solar
I completed VCE at Kingswood College in 1977 and attended Swinburne University. In 1982, post-graduation, I returned to Amcor as a project engineer installing new plant and equipment such as printing presses and packaging production lines. I was interested in IT, which at the time was making its way into production planning, inventory control and process logic control. In 1985, I moved to Cadbury Schweppes as an IT Business Analyst and managed IT applications implementation projects. I studied to become certified with the American Society of Production and Inventory Management. In 2001 I was promoted to Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Bonlac and in 2004, I was approached by Harris Scarfe in Adelaide to become their CIO which I was until 2010.
I have always been a bit of a greenie and interested in solar power. As one does, I started a solar company. This brought together what I had learned about business, supply chain, projects and even my engineering. Sunergy began in our spare bedroom at our farm in the Adelaide Hills. Within a year, Sunergy had three employees. After moving to Bendigo, I started Sunergy all over again and became accredited in off-grid solar in 2012. Over time, I moved from subcontract to in-house installers meaning I employed electricians and Sunergy became a registered electrical contractor (REC). In January this year, I sold Sunergy to my most senior electrician employee. I consult back when he feels the need, but otherwise have retired. Along the way, I’ve been a Venturer Scout Leader, a school council member and a Board member of the Science Discovery Centre in Bendigo. I have two children and spend my spare time doing volunteer work and gravel and road cycling with my friends.

Nicole graduated in 2017 and headed to Deakin University completing a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) and a Bachelor of Arts (Advertising and Public Relations). During COVID-19 Nicole completed an online internship in advertising and since 2018 has supported New Pathways Coaching with all things marketing. In 2020 Nicole started It’s Baked By Nicole, a cake business, handling all aspects of the business. After University Nicole began working at Kingswood College as Community Engagement Officer. Nicole is currently at Strathcona Girls Grammar as Marketing and Communications Associate, leading a team. Nicole has always been actively involved in the community, running youth and children’s programs and camps, and recently in a women’s mentoring program for marketing professionals.

1999 Telecommunications

2006 Media & Comms
After finishing his VCE at Kingswood, Tom completed a Bachelor of Electrical & Communication Engineering at RMIT University and later an MBA at Melbourne Business School. Early in Tom’s career, he started his own business - a small internet service provider - and secured Kingswood College as his first customer. Since then, he has spent the last 22 years in the Telecommunications industry leading teams across sales, engineering, product development and operations, in companies such as Telstra, NBN, and Vocus. Tom’s currently the General Manager of Operations at TPG Telecom, leading a team of 500 people delivering service to customers.
After graduating from Kingswood in 2006, Tom studied a Bachelor of Media and Communication at Deakin. While studying, he took an internship opportunity with the Melbourne Rebels (Super Rugby) in the video analysis department, which then turned into a paid content creation role. From there Tom was hired by the North Melbourne Football Club (AFL), and then recruited over to the Essendon Football Club (AFL). He was then recruited by the Melbourne United Basketball Club (NBL) in 2015, and has risen through the ranks from Video Producer to Digital Manager, General Manager of Digital, Marketing and Communications, and now to his current role as Chief Marketing Officer. Heading up the Marketing, Digital and Communications department, as well as the Ticketing and Membership departments.

Since leaving Kingswood, 16 years ago, my career has been mainly in the Hospitality industry. Starting as a Deli assistant for Woolworths, I moved into the bakery as a bakers apprentice; shortly after I took on a Certificate IV in Hospitality (patisserie) and a second apprenticeship as a commercial cook on Lygon Street. Having built and worked on my skills and knowledge after completing the apprenticeship, I moved away from Lygon Street (5 years) and took on an Advanced Diploma in Hotel and Resort Management and started my 6 year journey at Crown Resorts. Being with Crown I quickly gained crucial experience as a casual kitchen hand and progressed into a Supervisor role within two years. This lead me to progress further into a Senior Supervisor role and Assistant Manager role in three years. I am now currently stationed at RACV City Club under the Leisure Grouping as an Assistant Chief Steward.
