MY LITTLE PIECE OF HOME
City of Kingston commissioned a new public artwork especially for the Follett Road shopping precinct in Cheltenham. Introducing My Little Piece of Home by Melbourne artist Carla Gottgens.

This unique artwork was developed in collaboration with Follett Road business owners, Cheltenham East Primary School students, and residents who all shared ideas and stories from the local community about the history of the area and what they liked about living around the Follett Road shops. The multicoloured imagery developed by locals during a series of artist-led workshops reference the area’s Indigenous history through floral emblems, such as the Australian Wattle, and recognises Follett Farm by using the shape of fence posts in a winding pathway puzzle. This vibrant artwork is complemented by new trees and garden beds, as well as planters, bench seating, and bicycle racks.
Wattle Ward Councillor Jenna Davey-Burns said Follett Road deserves to be celebrated, and this project does just that. “It brings together our unique cultures and stories along with the farming history of market gardens. I am so proud how everyone has gotten behind the design. It is really special.”
