Bronwen Jones has been running Monkey Music classes in both the Wandsworth, Tooting and Streatham area, and the Wimbledon and Merton Park area for some time – in fact for ten years! She began her Monkey Music journey by buying one Monkey Music franchise which was Wimbledon and Merton Park, and then very quickly bought a second one which was Wandsworth, Tooting and Streatham. COUGHS CO UGHS AND COLDS SPREAD DISEASES! Encourage your child to have plenty of drinks and to keep warm by wearing several thin layers of clothes and removing a layer if they get too hot. Remember to not over-clothe your child as they can’t sweat to reduce their temperature and will become hot & bothered.

Most coughs and colds in healthy babies, toddlers and children aren’t serious and they generally get better in a few days.

The common symptoms of a cough and cold are the cough and a runny nose. The child may have a raised temperature, sore throat, ear ache, headache, be lethargic and off their food.

The symptoms are often worse for 2-3 days and make’s the child miserable, then the symptoms ease although an irritating cough may linger.

There is no magic cure for the common cold and treatment is aimed at relieving the symptoms rather than curing. As most coughs and colds are caused by viruses, antibiotics are ineffective.

Children should get plenty of rest and sleep and take it easy if they feel unwell. They should be kept away from nursery and school until they feel better.

When your child coughs or sneezes they send tiny droplets of infected saliva into the air. To prevent the spread of the virus encourage children and adults to ‘catch it, bin it and kill it’.

Children should use disposable tissues and cover their mouth and nose EVERY time they cough and sneeze. Use the tissue once and then throw it in the bin. Encourage your child to wash their hands regularly.

Plenty of fresh air and exercise as well as a healthy diet will boost your child’s immune system and may help prevent coughs and colds.

Most coughs and colds get better without complications. However you should seek medical advice if your child has a persistent high temperature or does not seem to be getting better.

Regular paracetamol will help to reduce a temperature and ease a headache. Ibuprofen has the same effect. Alternating paracetamol with ibuprofen will give you 24hours cover.

Remember to give only the recommended dose.

A plastic bag or piece of cling film is ideal DO NOT put butter oil or any sort of grease or lotion on a burn or scald – these can cause further damage and increase the risk of infection DO NOT apply sticking plasters or any other type of adhesive dressing to the skin – they will cause pain and damage when removed DO NOT break blisters – you may introduce infection into the wound DO NOT give the child anything to eat or drink if the child has facial burns or is having any difficulty with their breathing. If in doubt wait until you have had medical advice before you give food or drink.

COME AND JOIN THE FUN, AT THE LITTLE GYM From its colourful, spacious centre in Wandsworth, The Little Gym hosts weekly curriculum–based gymnastics classes for children from 4 months to 12 years.

Specifically designed to boost children’s confidence, in a non-competitive environment, the classes help youngsters get the most from every stage of their development. They promote co-ordination, balance, rhythm and flexibility, provide an opportunity to make friends and let off stream but, most of all, they are LOTS OF FUN! With guidance and encouragement from highly trained ‘child-friendly’ instructors, children of all abilities are able to grow their skills at their own pace.

Weekly-themed classes combine gymnastics, music and games and provide a personalised learning experience that evolves weekby-week.

Whilst grown-ups accompany the under 3’s, parents of older children can watch from a comfortable viewing lobby and receive a class review at the end of each session.

Free introductory classes are offered for all age groups and sessions run throughout the week, during term-time and holidays. The Little Gym also offers children’s parties and full OFSTED-approved holiday camps.
