“This show is a love letter to family, to community, to trans and queer joy, and to a better and more hopeful future. In a world where a lot of trans people, including myself, feel despair and isolation, I wanted to depict a better reality, where we can reach towards each other, take accountability for our wrong actions, and learn how to love and be tender with others and ourselves.
This show is current, but it is also timeless, as it shows a family that is a lot like many families, with people trying hard to love each other and sometimes coming up short. Instead of ending there, the characters in ‘Something Missing’ keep working to become better versions of themselves, and through often difficult and uncomfortable conversations, they all learn how to show up for each other. I think I wrote this play with a lot of hope, hope that I still feel despite the current rise in transphobia. My hope is that we as people all want connection and community, and that we will work to create and maintain these things in the years to come. Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this show what it has become, it is because of all of you I am so hopeful. I hope that through watching this show, you all feel this hope and joy and love too. ”
