Alive Gymnastics 2019/20


Children from the age of 18 months can have fun and develop their gymnastics skills under the guidance of fully qualified coaches. Gymnasts progress through the British Gymnastics award schemes, and talented gymnasts are invited to train with our elite squads to develop their skills even further. The British Gymnastics Award schemes provide the foundation for teaching high quality gymnastics in a fun, friendly and inspiring environment. Certificates and badges are awarded to those gymnasts who successfully complete each award.


Classes are for pre-school children and follow the British Gymnastics Fundamental Award Scheme at Lynnsport. 18 months – 3 years – Parent and toddler session Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

9am-10am The British Gymnastics programme teaches young gymnasts essential physical and social life skills and is centered around 16 themes with songs, colours and counting to support movement skills. On successful completion of each theme the child will be awarded a badge and certificate.


Junior Gymnastics The Proficiency Core Gymnastics Award scheme is for gymnasts aged 5 years and upwards, assisting in the progressive development of core skills such as balance, strength, flexibility and co-ordination, incorporating compulsory pulse raising activities. There are 10 types of activity and 8 levels of attainment. Badges and certificates are awarded following the completion of each grade starting at grade 8 and progressing to grade 1.

Special Needs Gymnastics Children with special needs are welcome within the junior gymnastics groups and progress through the Foundation Award scheme. The skills within the proficiency core awards are broken down into manageable elements, certificates are awarded following the completion of each grade.


General Gymnastics Squad Gymnasts train for two hours per week at Alive Lynnsport preparing for general gymnastics competitions internally and represent the club at external competitions. Gymnasts undertake strength and conditioning exercises to encourage flexibility using the floor, bar, vault and beam.

King’s Lynn Gymnastics Club Talented gymnasts are invited to train with the Elite training squads at Alive Lynnsport and compete for King’s Lynn Gym Club. The club has training squads in Acrobatics and Tumbling and has an enviable record competing at County, Regional and National level, in addition to friendly in-house competitions. Acrobatics is a discipline where gymnasts work in pairs and groups using an Olympic size floor creating a routine of dance, tumbling and balancing elements. Tumblers create a run of somersaulting elements linked together and performed on a tumble track. The requirements of joining King’s Lynn Gym Club can be found on page 8.


Alive Gymnastics Programme The gymnastics programme is a continuous booking and assessment programme. Speed of progression is dependent upon the individual and all gymnasts will progress when the competencies of the grade have been consistently achieved.

How to Book Booking is made via reception, who will advise you on a suitable class and the times available. If a suitable class is not available you will be placed on a waiting list, and contacted when a place becomes available.

Class Etiquette • Please arrive no more than requirements, learning difficulties, 5 minutes before start of class or medical conditions • Belongings to be placed in lockers • In the event of a reported accident or left at owners risk in the gymnastics centre, details • Spectators and parents of will be forwarded to British gymnasts under the age of 8 Gymnastics for insurance purposes must remain on the viewing area (except with Tumble Teds parent and toddler session where parents assist their child in class) • Gymnasts progress will be monitored weekly and recorded via a tablet • Parents may enter 5 minutes before the end of class to collect children • Gymnastics under the age of 8 are not permitted to leave the gymnastics centre unattended • Photography is not permitted unless specific permission has been granted by the Duty Officer • Please inform us of any special


Payments Payments for lessons are made by monthly direct debit. Payments are taken on the 1st of each month and pro-rata fees may be applicable depending on the start date. Classes will not run on Bank Holidays and there will be a two week break for Christmas, fees have taken these closures into account. Badges and certificates where applicable are all included within the fees, these will be presented by the coach when the grade has been achieved. Recreation

Cancellations Alive Leisure reserves the right to cancel any course. To cancel your child’s lessons, please inform us providing a minimum notice period of one month. Refunds will not be issued if a gymnast is withdrawn before the payment subscription is due to expire unless the withdrawal is due to medical conditions, in which case a Doctors Certificate may be required.

Communication • Please direct any communications to the Assistant Head Coach or reception • Please do not liaise directly with the coach whilst lessons are in progress • Parents can view their child’s progress online • Progress is monitored weekly by coaches • Gymnasts progress can be viewed at aliveleisure.courseprogress.co.uk • You will be notified by email when your gymnast has achieved their grade


King’s Lynn Gymnastics Club requirements Selection – Gymnasts are selected for a 1 month trial Participation – Participation is through invitation only Training – Gymnasts will train for a minimum of 2 sessions per week Progression – Progress is made through the elite squads from development squad, to intermediate and finally elite squad. If Elite squads are not suitable, the gymnast will be offered a place in Junior Gymnastics, or the General Gymnastics squad. Annual membership to British Gymnastics and Eastern Counties Gymnastics Association is required. Gymnasts are expected to take part in internal and external competitions for which there will be entry fees for each competition and discipline entered. Travel and accommodation will be required for some competitions, parents are responsible for arrangements and supervision. Club uniform is required including leotards and tracksuits, these are purchased directly from the King’s Lynn Gymnastics Club Fundraising Committee.
