SUB BRANCH PRESIDENT
Welcome to our midyear edition of the Burst, the weather for ANZAC Day was perfect and with it coinciding with the end of the school holidays meant that we had a tremendous crowd at the service comprising of current and ex-service men and women and their families along with many hundreds of local community families all commemorating this very special day at Kingsgrove RSL Club.
The Sutherland Shire Silver Band led the march and supported the service as did the cadets from the 233 St George Cadet Unit who made up the Catafalque Party and Guard. The 4th Kingsgrove Scout Group and the West Bexley Girl Guides were there in good numbers. The Reverend Kees Bootsma Minister at Beverly Hills Kingsgrove Anglican Church gave the ANZAC Day Address.

A special thanks to Club Director Michael Bougoukas and his son Ross who provided their vintage cars to transport those ex-service members who could not march. Thanks to Parade Marshall Phil Pollard and MC Peter Merlino both helped to make the march and service run smoothly.
Laying wreaths were Club Member Albert (Boss) Harihari on behalf of the New Zealand Ex-Service men and women. Councilor Liz Barlow on behalf of Bayside Council, A/Inspector Nick Glover for the St George Area Command, the Cadets, Scout and Guide Groups.
A special thanks to Leilani McIntosh who sang the New Zealand National Anthem in Māori and in English, she did a great job for some one so young in front of such a large audience.
The Kingsgrove RSL Auxiliary assisted as they always do in the smooth running of the morning by serving breakfast to all the attendees this year, as we did last year with a full breakfast being provided to the Veterans, Cadets, Band, and their families and egg and bacon rolls were provided to all other attendees at the service, thank you Yvonne and all the ladies.
The Club CEO Ian Todd, COO Debbie Harris, the management team and our great staff did an amazing job organizing and managing the whole day, which saw a very large number of members and their guests enjoy this special day. The SubBranch appreciates the close cooperation between the two organizations.
The Sub-Branch along with members from Padstow and Campsie Sub-Branches visited Pre-Schools, Primary and High Schools and Nursing Homes in the Kingsgrove and Padstow areas to assist in their ANZAC Day Service, my thanks to all those who assisted.
Sunday 7th May was the date for our Battle of the Coral Sea Commemoration Service, unfortunately due to wet weather for the second year in a row we had to hold the service in the car park. The guest speaker was WOMT Ray Scarlett who provided a very interesting address on the battle that changed the course of the war in the Pacific. Despite the inclement weather we had a good roll up for the service and luncheon. Our next commemorative service is VP Day, Sunday 13th August commencing at 10.45 am.
KRSL Sub-Branch representatives have attended FSMDC meetings at Bankstown RSL and Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL and the next Sub-Branch meeting is 26th June, please come along and enjoy the comradery.

ALAN R BARNES OAM JP
Sports Administrator
Firstly, in my new role as Sports Administrator, I would like to thank my predecessor Heather Shepherd for her commitment, efforts and time as Sports Administrator in her many years in the role. I attended my first Sports Council meeting on 8th June with the Darts and Golf committees, unfortunately there was nobody available from the Snooker committee to attend.
Snooker
At this point in time, I would like to inform everybody with the new renovations, the Club has included the sports lounge which will allow us to have the two snooker tables back in play in the near future. So for all you snooker enthusiasts we hope you will come back and join us.
Darts
I’m pleased to say that the Friday night social night of darts is starting to attract more new members, good to see and for the more enthusiastic dart players there is a Wednesday night Club competition for anybody that would like to join.
Golf
The golf club has also been increasing their members, but unfortunately their playing numbers have been down for one reason or another, but we hope to see more players coming out for early morning “character building: sessions during the winter months.
Fishing.
Unfortunately, we still have no fishing club. We are seeking for people to put their hand to help kick start the fishing club and committee once again.
Finally, I would like to say that if there is anybody out there, that might have any ideas of sporting activities that we might be able to accommodate, please let me know.
MICHAEL BOUGOUKAS, SPORTS ADMINISTRATOR
Darts Club
Welcome to winter and hope you are all keeping well and warm. Our darts have been very interesting this year as we have had a few new members join our club. If you wish to join please come down on a Friday night at 7.30pm to see what it entails or see Club reception for more details.
Our competition team was not in the finals for the last season but had a good time each time they played. We are in the process of putting together a second team for our next season. Hope this happens as it will provide a team challenge between the two teams and make life interesting.

Nine members of the auxiliary attended the Anzac Service at the Kokoda Track. This function is so well organised and to see the senior veterans who attend is truly remarkable. I encourage Club members to attend this very special service.
The ladies supported the Anzac Day Service held here at the Club. They assisted with serving breakfast at four separate areas of the Club for all of those who attended. Busy, but enjoyable.

Ellen Glover, our welfare officer, has been in contact with our members who are not well and cannot attend our meetings, by providing cards, telephone calls and visits. We wish them a speedy recovery and thank Ellen for her kind support.

Another “Crazy Whist” night was held in April. A great night with 24 people attending. This is a fun card game and we encourage you all to come and join us on the evening. A huge thank you to

Kingsgrove Rsl Community Group
Our Easter delivery went well but we still had to leave the goodies at reception of each nursing home. We have had contact from a couple of nursing homes to say the Easter Eggs were a big hit with the residents.
As we go to print a nursing home has got in contact with us as they are having a teddy bears picnic. We are going to donate thirty teddies to their project and hope that they enjoy their picnic with the residents.
The ladies are still busy doing projects for the nursing homes for Christmas. We have around 400 presents to do so you can imagine how busy their hands are working. If you would like to join our community group you can leave your name and phone number at reception and we will get in contact with you. We meet on a Monday morning once every two months to discuss what we are doing.
We would like to thank everyone who has donated wool to us for their generosity. We have made good use of all these donations. Beanies, blankets, bears and coat hangers are all in progress. We also have orders for scarfs and beanies in football colours. If you require anything just get in touch with reception.
In closing I would like to thank all the ladies in the group for their efforts throughout the 20 odd years we have been involved in this community group.
