Fairstead House is a school with hear t. Pupils, parents and staff (past, present and future) speak of the school with real affection for all that it offers its children.

A range of extra-curricular activities, small classes, nur turing teachers and great f riends allow them all to stay younger for longer and to cherish childhood.
Fairstead House welcomes boys and girls between the ages of 3 months and 11 years.
The School is located in the picturesque town of Newmarket. At its hear t is a striking Georgian building complemented by more modern facilities which house the Nurser y and Early Years classrooms. Racehorses pass by the school gates on their way to be exercised on The Gallops. Within the school grounds, there is an extensive all-weather play area, a Performing Ar ts Centre, a Science Laborator y and other specialist teaching facilities.


Our broad and balanced curriculum provides a wealth of exciting oppor tunities for our pupils. It is taught by exper t, dedicated staff who ensure learning is memorable and fun. Our curriculum is designed to be inventive, stimulating and to prepare pupils for the next stage of their education. We believe passionately in nur turing the talents of ever y individual. Those more able pupils, who show an aptitude for a par ticular subject, are given oppor tunities to be challenged and to develop their skills through our Enrichment Programme, together with extra-provision within class.
The benefit of small class sizes and a truly nurturing environment cannot be underestimated. She has also benefitted f rom the many and varied extra curricular activities, such as mindfulness and the tea time concerts to help build her life skills and confidence.

7 Years of Education
Did you know that Fairstead House was founded in 1950 with just 5 pupils? Mrs. Rosamonde Taylor served as Headmistress until September 1978. Under her leadership, the school grew and thrived, building a foundation of care, discipline, and academic integrity.

Off-site trips and in-school clubs and activities are an impor tant par t of our Enrichment Programme. They enhance our pupils’ learning experience, deepening engagement and igniting interest. In any academic year, our pupils may go back in time with an outing to West Stow Anglo-Saxon village, sit down at the Nor wich Theatre with the Tiger that came to Tea, or dig up some interesting ar tefacts at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in Cambridge.
Recently, we have been visited by owls, by an Ancient Mayan and by dinosaurs!

The breadth of her education is something we relish, and we feel she’ll transition to secondary school as a happy, well-rounded, well-educated, independent and articulate young lady!
We are hugely proud of our pupils when they leave Fairstead House ready to take on the challenges that their futures hold for them. By preparing them fully for the 11+ exam, all secure places at well-known and recognised Independent Schools in the area including King’s Ely, The Leys, Stephen Perse, Culford and at the reputable state schools of Newmarket, Soham and Bottisham.
Fairstead House School plays an active par t in the local community suppor ting local charities through fundraising or pupil involvement in events or special occasions. The School Council and Pupil Voice drives this desire to be aware of, and contribute to, the wider society.

The school has encouraged the children to step outside their comfort zones in a safe and nurturing environment, created not only by the staff but the other children at the school.
