COURAGE CAN’T WAIT

The student who thrives at King’s College is the one who has courage.

The courage to engage in their academics, in student clubs, and on athletic teams.

The courage to face what they don’t know, make mistakes, and learn something new.

They have the courage to believe they can leave King’s with a better sense of who they are and how to live authentically and in service of others.

They have the courage to go into the world and change it.

BECAUSE COURAGE CAN’T WAIT… IT’S

NEEDED NOW.

A KING’S THING

With more than 100,000 hours of annual service, King’s has been nationally recognized for our strong servicelearning programs.

HOLY CROSS DIFFERENCE

Next to academic excellence, community is the most unique and transformative aspect of a Holy Cross education.

Our community is enriched by the influence of Holy Cross, the Catholic religious congregation who founded this college from our sister institution: the University of Notre Dame. You, as well as students from all backgrounds and faiths, are invited to share our faith, but we do not impose it.

Catholic institutions, like King’s College, are regarded for their strong academics and intellectual tradition. As a Holy Cross institution, we’re also known for our inclusive and compassionate atmosphere that supports

you as you educate your mind and your heart as well as navigate college and this next chapter of your life. You will learn the value of service and how to incorporate it personally and professionally in our nurturing community.

TL;DR Like any other college, you’ll earn your degree. But, at King’s, you’ll have your degree and a premier education, career prospects, and a foundational belief in yourself.

Born from the Holy Cross tradition of our sister institution, the University of Notre Dame

Have the courage to BE EMPATHETIC & ADAPTABLE

We’re here to tell you that liberal arts education is not outdated. In fact, it’s desperately needed to navigate technological advancements, global tensions, and information overload.

Our Core Curriculum is built around contemporary liberal arts ideas and forms a common experience for all students. The Core challenges you to be an active, empathetic participant in the classroom and provides practical, in-demand, transferrable skills that

will fuel success across any discipline—like effective communication, problem solving, creativity, and emotional intelligence. Anymore, it’s not enough to learn your trade, and employers are looking for well-rounded graduates who are adaptable and unafraid to speak up, offer solutions, and manage teams.

And, unlike larger institutions, our classes are intentionally kept small to foster discussion and develop individual relationships and networks between professors and students.

MENTORSHIP IN ACTION

King’s College Women in Science and Engineering (KC-WiSE) started in 2016 as a joint faculty and student effort to boost women engagement in STEM fields. The group has organized and co-sponsored movie screenings, guest panels, mentoring lunches and coffee hours, as well as other programs aimed at connecting aspiring women scientists and engineers with successful professionals, including our alumni network, who have persevered in typically maledominated fields.

King’s is a natural fit for this effort, as women faculty in the College’s science programs make up 25-50% of their respective departments, which is above the national average.

Rachael Kocher ’25 Chemistry

“I decided to attend King’s after the first Open House! Everyone was extremely welcoming and informative.”

Have the courage to

EXCEL ACADEMICALLY

When other schools are cutting programs, we’re adding majors that are in demand.

Our Core Curriculum provides you with not only what you want and need to learn but also a degree that lays the groundwork for high growth potential, no matter which major you choose.

Although a smaller college, King’s pursues the same initiatives that big institutions do. Faculty are encouraged to incorporate new ideas into their course work. We pride ourselves on our academic excellence and that our classes are taught by more full-time professors with doctoral degrees than found at most schools.

And with our accredited programs, you can have confidence that what you learn at King’s is on par with the best (did you know only 5% of business schools in the world have AACSB international accreditation like our McGowan School of Business?).

Choose an accelerated program that earns you a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in less time (and money) and one of our pre-professional health or law graduate tracks with guaranteed placement* in some of the most competitive programs throughout the country.

What do King’s College, Villanova University, and Duquesne University have in common?

They’re the only three Catholic institutions in Pennsylvania to have accredited business, engineering, and health sciences programs (but King’s is the most affordable!).

Activities: Choir, Theatre, Campus Ministry

“I knew from day one this was the place I wanted to go. King’s doesn’t make it hard to be involved. In high school you have to split time for sports and activities, and it’s such a headache. Here, you have staff and people who volunteer to make it work with you and your schedule, which makes the experience so much more enjoyable.”

Have the courage to FILL YOUR RÉSUMÉ

Your résumé won’t be very long when you graduate— unless you’re a Monarch.

At King’s, we intentionally assign your program chair to be your advisor. Why? They have insight from your classes together and their close relationships with fellow faculty, allowing them to guide you through what you should do next and how to enhance your academic journey. They will make sure

you’ve found the right major (or majors) and connect you with opportunities for internships, study abroad, conferences, workshops, or career training. After all, our goal is to do more than simply teach. We want to help you land a job and develop a rewarding vocation you will love.

Classes are taught by professors, not teaching assistants, and your program chair serves as your advisor.

A KING’S THING

Lynese Swida ’26

Communications with a Marketing minor, Honors Program

Activities: Dance Team Secretary and Social Media Coordinator, WRKC, Campus Activities, Residence Life

“King’s was the one school that I originally did not want to go to. My heart was set on another, but I went on a tour, and I actually fell in love with it. The other schools were still relatively small, but they didn’t have that close knit community as King’s—it was the one that I could see myself at like my second home.”

Have

the

courage to EXPLORE NEW PERSPECTIVES

We encourage our Monarchs to get the most out of their time to enrich both their résumé and their spirit. In support of that, King’s provides unparalleled access to experiential learning.

HOLY CROSS EXPERIENCE: This first-semester course provides guidance on collegelevel assignments and fosters an attitude that you are not alone so you can easily adjust to this new college experience. And, odds are, you’ll meet your friends for life in this class—it happens every year!

INTERNSHIPS: Our students complete full- and part-time internships at more than 100 organizations each year, including Disney, CBS, and Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins Hockey, giving them great hands-on experience and showing high-profile organizations what Monarchs are made of.

MSB FORUM: The McGowan School of Business hosts an annual forum in New York City, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, or Wilkes-Barre where upwards of 100 business students receive an hour-long, one-on-one mentoring session with a leading business professional. After, students continue to network at a reception and formal dinner.

40 countries with study abroad opportunities

HONORS PROGRAM: Apply to our Honors Program, which offers enhanced educational experiences with searching, conversational, and personally meaningful study as well as special events, weekend trips to New York City and Washington D.C., and lecture series. Honors students come from a wide range of majors like physician assistant, engineering, economics, history, education, accounting, and biology.

BONUS: Honors students receive special on-campus living arrangements in the program’s Residential Community.

ARMY RESERVE: Army ROTC offers mentorship and real-world leadership training while still having the full college experience. In addition to your standard coursework, take military science courses and physical training as you prepare to work as an officer in the U.S. Army. Earn special scholarships to cover your tuition.

STUDY ABROAD: Experience transformative learning internationally with our two- or three-week faculty-led trips or semester-long placements. With the help of our Office of Study Abroad, you can complete for-credit study in countries like Canada, England, France, Spain, or Sweden to name a few!

SERVE TRIPS: The Shoval Center’s SERVE (Students Engaged in Reflective Volunteer Experiences) Program organizes fully funded trips for students to spend their semester breaks giving back to others across the country and world.

ALUMNI MENTORS: You’ll have access to a strong network of alumni who willingly leverage their networks and enthusiasm to help fellow Monarchs succeed. In fact, 96% of our graduates from the last few years are employed or starting graduate school within six months of graduation.

Have the courage to MAKE A SECOND HOME

On-campus housing provides the guided independence you need to grow as you move through your college years, starting with your time in either Holy Cross Hall or Esseff Hall. With guaranteed on-campus housing placement for all four years, you can then move to our on-campus apartments, which foster even greater freedom and flexibility.

All our housing options are supported by not only Resident Advisors but also special Resident Counselors who provide a wide range of support. While we make sure you have a fun environment to live in, we also ensure your safety—all buildings are locked and accessible only by using your King’s ID.

COMMUTER LIFE

Commuters make up 40% of our campus community, so it’s just as important that campus feels like a second home to you, too! In addition to dining on campus and being involved in any of the College’s clubs and organizations, there are a few unique groups and events for you.

The Commuter Life Association meets throughout the semester to plan social events that engage fellow commuters. Monthly Commuters Connect feature collaborations with student support services, and monthly Parking Lot Pop-Ups offer free coffee and tea as you’re arriving or heading home. Keep an eye out for the black and white checkered flags on Lane’s Lane, which means it’s time for a Commuter Pit Stop! Pop into Campus Activities to catch up with friends, grab a quick bite to eat, and be on the go again.

Our staff is Safe Space trained
We know how important food is, and we have five different facilities to give you choices of where, when, and what you eat.

KING’S COURT: Our all-you-care-to-eat cafeteria is a college staple and features several stations from pizza and make-your-own sandwiches and wraps to hot, three-course meals, salad bar, and full dessert station with waffle makers, a cereal bar, and serveyourself ice cream.

CONNERTON’S: Want a restaurant atmosphere or late-night options? Try Connerton’s, which offers fast-food style deli subs, fried chicken, and burgers. Choose from our indoor seating or outside in Regina Court.

SUSQUEHANNA PLACE: Another restaurant-style location, Susquehanna Place specializes in flatbreads and grab-and-go salads and has fresh sushi and a juice bar. Plus, “the Susq” has a full Starbucks menu serving up your favorite coffees, teas, and pink drinks!

CHICK-FIL-A: Students can use their Flex Dollars and King’s Cash to get their favorite chicken sandwiches and waffle fries at Chick-fil-A, located in the Alley Center on Public Square.

MONARCH MART: Our on-campus convenience store has all the staples you need to stock up on snacks, grab-and-go sandwiches, drinks, or school supplies.

DOWNTOWN FAVORITES

You can also explore the great restaurants and cafes that are next to (or only a block from) campus and serve up your favorite lattes, pizza, wings, homemade soups and sandwiches, Mexican or Italian, you name it!

It’s Wilkes-BERRY!

King’s is the original Wilkes-Barre (pronounced WilkesBERRY!) college, and our histories are closely intertwined. Although Wilkes-Barre is small, it’s a growing city with high profile organizations and even higher potential. There are great jobs, apartments and homes, and all-season activities that make Northeastern Pennsylvania a magnet for those escaping expensive cities.

Within a three-mile radius, you’ll find everything you need, from downtown restaurants, activities, and small businesses to big-box stores like Target and Walmart. Local venues offer national-touring concerts, New York Yankees Triple-A baseball, and Pittsburgh Penguins AHL hockey while the nearby Pocono Mountains offer great snowboarding, skiing, kayaking, and biking. And, if that’s not enough, Martz Bus service is just a short walk away with daily trips to Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington, D.C.

Have the courage to

EDUCATE YOUR MIND & HEART

It’s right in the College’s vision statement: we’re dedicated to transforming minds and hearts.

For us, education and student wellness are one and the same. Not only does King’s boast an extremely caring, respectful, and supportive community, but also a full host of services to make sure your academic pursuits are balanced with your mental and physical health.

WELLNESS CENTER: The Intermetro Wellness Center features the latest in sports training technology, including weights and full-rack stations, treadmills, stationary bikes, ellipticals, and rowing machines, as well as an aerobics/dance room.

COUNSELING CENTER: You have free access to qualified, licensed mental health clinicians to help you navigate any academic or personal roadblocks, stress, conflict, or grief through sensitive and confidential support.

CAREER PLANNING: King’s College strongly believes in the power of career preparation and internships. The Office of Career Planning connects students with recruitment events and internship placement and provides guidance with career counseling, résumé preparation, and professional development activities.

CAMPUS MINISTRY: The Office of Campus Ministry plays a spiritual and supportive role in our students’ lives. In addition to offering Mass at the Chapel, you can attend retreats, have deep conversations, volunteer for interfaith or service opportunities, or join any of the Ministry-led clubs and organizations, regardless of your faith background.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT: Whether you need help improving your writing skills, studying, or arranging special accommodations, King’s offers several free programs through the Academic Skills Center, the Writing Center, Disability Services, and Achievement Plus.

STUDENT HEALTH CENTER: Our Student Health Center clinicians evaluate and treat acute illness and injury conveniently on campus and provide referrals in case you need more medical attention.

Have the courage to

DISCOVER SOMETHING NEW

Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare

You can awaken hidden interests with electives—such as ARTS 135: The Films of the Cohen Brothers—but we believe your time outside the classroom is just as influential as your time in it. It’s very common for Monarchs to be involved in not just one extracurricular activity but sometimes two or three.

With more than 40 clubs and organizations, you can try something new and develop transferable skills that are critical to your success, such as time management, networking, and leadership.

You don’t have to be a theatre major to audition for a play. Science students can sing in the Cantores Christi Regis choir. If you’re not a DIII athlete but love dodgeball and pickleball, join one of our intramural teams. There are countless ways to get involved and engage with fellow Monarchs.

Have the courage to COMPETE

For many, college is not complete without athletics, and whether you’re a player or a fan, you’ll want to be a part of the Monarch spirit!

Almost half of our students are athletes and even more play intramurals, so we understand the drive to excel both on and off the field.

King’s College offers 28 NCAA Division III programs and competes within the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom, one of the oldest and largest Division III conferences in the nation.

DIII ADVANTAGE

BIG RIVALRIES AND QUALITY COMPETITION

Smaller regions mean bigger rivalries, and the MAC Freedom is known for some of the most outstanding tournaments. You’ll compete alongside all-conference athletes without the added pressure of vying for athletic scholarships and build closer connections with teammates and coaches.

THE LOVE OF THE GAME

As opposed to some DI and DII organizations, you’ll experience your sport for the love of the game. DIII student-athletes can focus their

time and efforts on pursuing their passions in the classroom and their activities, as well as continue to play the sport(s) they love at a high level.

BALANCED COLLEGE LIFE

Academics come first, meaning better grades and accountability from faculty and coaches. In the 2023-24 season alone, 375 Monarchs were named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll after posting a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA. With better schedules and shorter travel, you’ll have more time for college life, friends, internships, study abroad… you name it!

FINANCIAL AID FOR ATHLETES

As an NCAA Division III institution, King’s College cannot award full or partial athletic scholarships. However, we do provide student-athletes with competitive meritbased and need-based financial aid offers. In fact, King’s College students, including

athletes, are guaranteed a scholarship upon acceptance and many also receive additional financial assistance through grants, loans, and work-study programs. Regardless of your financial situation, we strongly encourage you to apply for financial aid!

OUTSTANDING FACILITIES

ROBERT L. BETZLER ATHLETIC COMPLEX

The 33-acre Robert L. Betzler Athletic Complex is one of the finest facilities in the MAC for football, field hockey, baseball, softball, soccer, and lacrosse.

McCarthy Stadium: A multi-purpose synthetic turf field used by the football, soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse teams. The stadium seats more than 3,000 spectators and has lights for evening games and practices.

John J. Dorish Field House: The John J. Dorish Field House has home and visitor locker rooms, athletic training facilities, and equipment and laundry rooms for all teams using the Betzler Athletic Complex.

Lipo Field: Home to baseball, Lipo Field was described by one major league scout as “one of the finest natural grass fields in the tri-state region.”

Softball Field: King’s softball field has served as the host site for several MAC Freedom Conference Championship tournaments over the years. The field includes an electronic scoreboard, home and visitor dugouts, a batting cage, and bullpen areas.

Leffler Field: Leffler Field, which once played home to men’s and women’s soccer and the women’s lacrosse team, serves as an additional practice facility for both soccer and lacrosse teams, as well as football. The teams use the grass field in preparation for upcoming contests on a grass surface rather than the synthetic turf of McCarthy Stadium.

Track and Field: Our track at the Betzler Athletic Complex is home to our men’s and women’s track and field team. Additionally, the Monarchs host up to two home meets during their outdoor season.

KIRBY PARK

Just a walk across the river, the newly resurfaced tennis courts at Kirby Park provide the men’s and women’s teams with a facility of such quality that the MAC Individual Championships are hosted there every year.

WYOMING VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB

The home course for King’s Golf is the Wyoming Valley Country Club, a par-71, 6,278-yard course where the Monarchs compete in the fall and spring seasons.

MONARCH MADE

John Mabin Jr. ’23

Mechanical Engineering

John is an all-star: engineering student, on the football team, and heavily involved in student life. As a member of the Multicultural International Club and First-Gen Committee, and co-founder of Black Student Union, John was a huge on-campus advocate. Before he graduated, he already secured a job as an engineer with UGI. While he’s working, he’s also pursuing his M.B.A. at Lehigh University.

Maritza Colon ’23

Neuroscience

Mikayla Acree ’22 Marketing

Mikayla’s work as a Marketing major and a regular performer in theatre productions was the perfect primer for her job as a cast member at Walt Disney World.

While Maritza started as a Physician Assistant major, her advisor recognized her talents lay elsewhere. Maritza changed her major to Neuroscience and excelled at research, including serving as a summer research intern at Princeton. She’s now a Neuroscience doctoral candidate at Brown University—tuition fully covered.

Andres Armstrong ’17 Athletic Training

Christian Hernandez ’23 Political Science

As SGA President, Christian was everywhere on campus. After King’s, Christian was accepted at the University of Notre Dame to complete a oneyear M.S. in Management program. Immediately after graduating, he was hired at Stonehill College to work as a Residence Director.

Andres was ready to work. He’s interned for the Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings and worked with the UFL’s D.C. Defenders, and now he’s the Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Detroit Lions.

Caroline Jones ’18 Business Administration, Marketing

Caroline means business. After graduating, she worked at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and The Princeton Group, where she became Vice President and established the firm’s Fishtown, Pa., office. She also earned her M.S. in Personal Financial Planning and is pursuing her M.S. in Organizational Dynamics at Penn. Caroline has also authored four children’s books and is a TEDx speaker!

A KING’S THING

It is possible to receive a high-quality, premier education at an affordable cost, thanks to generous donors who make King’s College scholarships available to every accepted student.

Have the courage to INVEST IN YOURSELF

One of the biggest investments you can make in your life is in your college education. It’s a financial commitment, of course, but it’s also an investment in yourself. Still, making that investment possible can be challenging, and student debt is a primary concern.

We make every effort to support you and empower you with as much information as possible to navigate the financial aid process. We want you to be confident that your choices today will lead to a promising future.

Once you’re accepted to King’s, we share a special email series that walks you through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process, understanding types of aid, and recommended resources to secure additional funding. We also host financial aid information sessions and events to help you submit your FAFSA. We encourage everyone, regardless of their financial situation, to submit their FAFSA to find out if they qualify for funds to help pay for college.

Speak with a Financial Aid Counselor Office of Financial Aid (570) 208-5868 finaid@kings.edu

UNDERSTANDING FINANCIAL AID

What is “financial aid”?

Financial aid is free or borrowed money given or loaned to you through institutions and government programs to help pay for college.

What is the FAFSA?

The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which you file with (or shortly after) your application to your college(s) of choice. The application collects information about your family’s income and assets to determine your eligibility for and amounts of federal financial aid as well as institutional awards given out directly by King’s College.

Who can get financial aid?

Any student, regardless of income! Nearly all who apply qualify for some form of aid, so it’s important to submit your FAFSA to see what free or borrowed money is available to you.

What types of aid are available?

Financial aid doesn’t just mean student loans. Your FAFSA will also determine what grants, scholarships, and work study you qualify for.

GRANTS

Free money from King’s College or the government that you don’t have to repay!

Determined by your submitted FAFSA, grants are given by federal and state government agencies based on financial need, including the Pennsylvania state grant and the federal Pell grant. King’s College also awards generous need-based grants determined by your FAFSA.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Free money awarded by King’s College that you don’t have to repay!

King’s College scholarships ($20,000 to full tuition) and awards ($1,000 to $5,000) are awarded based on academic performance (also called “merit”), determined by your application. Students can also seek out private scholarships from organizations, all of which vary greatly in selection criteria and amounts given.

STUDENT LOANS

Money you borrow, and eventually repay, to cover the costs of your education.

Student loans can only be used for educational-related expenses and can come from government agencies (determined by your FAFSA) or from private banks or sources. Loan amounts, repayment terms, and interest rates vary by year of study.

$37,600 average 2023-24 financial aid package for first-year students

WORK STUDY

Free money you can earn through a part-time job at King’s College.

Work study funds can be awarded by government agencies or King’s College, both of which are determined by your FAFSA, at the beginning of the semester. Those funds will then be paid bi-weekly as long as you satisfactorily complete your hours.

WHAT COMES NEXT

EARLY ACTION

Application Due: December 1

If you want to be among the first to know if you’re accepted but are considering several schools, act early to submit your application and receive your admission decision quickly. Submitting Early Action is nonbinding, meaning you can consider early offers from multiple schools.

EARLY DECISION REGULAR DECISION

Application Due: December 1

If you are sure King’s College is right for you, submit your application early to receive your admission decision ahead of other students Unlike Early Action, Early Decision is binding, which means if you are accepted, you’ll be expected to withdraw any other applications at other institutions.

Step 1 APPLY TO KING’S COLLEGE

Application Due: February 1

If you need more time to visit schools, weigh your options, or improve test scores, submit your application by the standard deadline. Most students make this choice because there are no restrictions on the number of colleges you can apply to or obligation to attend them.

King’s College begins accepting applications in August and offers three different types of admission. We review every individual application that comes to our desks. Each one! We consider several factors to determine acceptance.

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: Continue working hard your senior year. We’ll look at your courses, rank, and GPA.

PERSONAL STATEMENT: It’s not required but it helps to submit an essay highlighting your talents and interests; it might even earn you additional scholarship!

RECOMMENDATIONS: Letters of recommendation supporting your extracurricular activities from teachers, counselors, or coaches are not required but strong pieces to add to your app.

TEST OPTIONAL: We know standardized tests might not accurately reflect a student’s academic performance, which is why SAT/ACT scores are only required for select programs. But, if you do choose to submit your scores, it might help in identifying additional scholarship.

Step 2 SUBMIT YOUR FAFSA

GATHER FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS

Families will need financial information, like tax returns and bank statements, for both students and parents. Take the time before starting the FAFSA to collect everything you can!

ESTIMATE COST OF ATTENDANCE

Using your gathered documents and our online Net Price Calculator at kings.edu/netprice, estimate what the cost of attending King’s College might be and potential financial aid eligibility so you can plan ahead. Please remember this is only an estimate and actual awards will be determined once you’ve applied to King’s College and submitted the FAFSA. If accepted, you’ll receive a formal Financial Aid Offer from King’s.

UNDERSTAND PAYMENT OPTIONS

After any scholarships, grants, and financial aid are applied, you may still have a balance due for the semester. Luckily, King’s makes monthly or deferred payment plans simple or you can opt for private loans or the Parent PLUS loan to help defray costs. You can read more about these options at kings.edu/financialaid.

SUBMIT THE FAFSA

King’s College Code: 003282

Once you’ve gathered your documents and learned a little more about anticipated cost and payment options, it’s time to submit! This application is FREE and available beginning December 1 at studentaid.gov. Be sure to complete your submission by March 1, our preferred deadline.

RECEIVE YOUR FINANCIAL AID OFFER

After you have submitted the FAFSA, you will be sent a link to access your FAFSA Submission Summary, which details your application and eligibility status. The summary also includes your Student Aid Index (SAI), which is used by King’s College to determine the federal aid you qualify for and the institutional aid you’ll get from King’s.
