Heritage
7th Century It is thought that King’s Worcester traces its roots back to the 7th Century, when the Cathedral was first founded.
Monastic Era to 1540 During this time, King’s Worcester was an essential component of the Benedictine cathedral monastery. The monastic school played a pivotal role in contributing to the intellectual landscape of the city.
1541 This school was one of seven “King’s Schools” established or re-endowed by Henry VIII following the dissolution. Our

first Headmaster, John Pether, took charge on 7th December 1541, setting the stage for centuries of educational excellence.
With nearly 500 years of heritage, our School’s story is etched into every corner. Within these age-old walls, you’ll discover a community that values tradition yet embraces innovation. We see the past not as an ancient relic, but as a living part of our present, grounding us as we forge bravely ahead.
