Next week on 10 July, I will be traveling by bus in a long journey of crossing nations into Rwanda to visit a small team which is very much interesting to open a Kingfisher Church in there nation.

They have invited me to go there for conducting a Kingfisher leadership training. Pray for me!

The Lord blessed me with more bags of maize this year, and tomorrow I am getting ready to go to the market to sell some of the bags for helping me to cover the cost of my transport and some expenses in this journey!!

Eight keys to help us know that we are hearing the voice of God:

• ATTITUDE. “And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave.” (1 Kings 19:12-13, NLT) This is the only place in Scripture where the voice of God is described as a ‘gentle whisper’, or a ‘still, small voice’. However, the importance of this is not to be overlooked. God does not compete with other things that clamour for our attention; why should he? He is God! If we want to hear from God, we must down to his pace, rather than try to get him to speed up to our pace. We are called to be still and small - quiet and humble in attitude - if we want to hear the still, small voice of God. Attitude is critical if we want to hear God and get a sense of what he wants us to do. The busier we are (the less still), the less likely we are to hear his voice. The more we demand that he runs at our pace (the less small), the more we are going to miss his whisper.

SCRIPTURE. “All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (1 Timothy 3:16-17)

No 'word from God' is going to contradict the Word OF God. Don't look for a 'proof text' (that is, an odd verse that seems to back up what you are hearing - look for the broad sweep of scripture. Look for verses that build up a bigger picture that will either challenge what you believe yoU are hearing from God or act to confirm what you are hearing from Him. It is likely that you will find verses that both back it up and contradict it. So it is important that you do a bit of digging and understand the context in which the verses are set. Is there a coherent message emerging from your study of the bible that either confirm or contradict the potential voice of God you think you may be hearing?

THE HOLY SPIRIT SPEAKING TO YOUR HEART. “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord.: ‘I will put my laws into their minds and I will write them on their hearts. and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

And they shall not teach everyone his fellow citizen, and everyone his brother, saying, 'know the Lord,' for all will know Me, from the least to the greatest of them" (Hebrews 8:10-11).

As you let this potential whisper from God sink into your heart and as you take time to mull it over, do you feel a 'stirring of your heart' (Ezra 1)? Is there a growing conviction or is it beginning to die down and slip away? A genuine stirring by the Holy Spirit of your heart will cause a growing sense of conviction and excitement and a growing closeness towards Jesus Christ. A word that is not authentically from God will cause a growing sense of unease when you approach God in prayer.

THE PROPHETIC WORD (word of knowledge, word of wisdom, personal prophecy): "Do not quench the Spirit; do not despise prophetic utterances. But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good" (I Thessalonians 5:19-21).

The prophetic word will coincide with the written word of God and will witness with other trusted advisors. Other people whom you trust will approach you with a sense of God saying something similar to what you believe God may be saying. If this doesn't happen, it may still be an authentic leading from God, but it is wise to wait for some external confirmation nevertheless. Beware of filtering out any prophetic words that conflict with your sense of what God is saying.

GODLY COUNSEL: "Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety" (Proverbs 11:14).

We need to recognise whom we can trust to give us honest, trustworthy feedback.

•

CONFIRMATION: "By the mouth of two or three witnesses every fact may be confirmed" (Matthew 18:16).

We need to share what we believe God may be saying, not just with the one person whom we know will agree with us, but with a number of people whom we trust, and pray on the gist of what they are feeding back. "Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success.

(Proverbs 15:22 NLT). Counsel leads us to having the confidence to come to a decision, but we still need to look for confirmation, in the form of the Godly reflections of others and in the form of 'Godly coincidences' that come along to confirm our sense of what God is saying (see 2 circumstances/timing below).

• THE PEACE OF GOD: "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful" (Colossians 3:15).

The Holy Spirit deals in conviction, not condemnation. If God is in this - if He is, indeed, speaking and leading us in this direction - then we will feel convicted to make the necessary changes in our lives, not condemned that we are not doing more. If you have taken the previous steps and, in the light of them, you conclude that this most likely is the direction the Holy Spirit is leading you in, you need to double-check your heart. You should be experiencing the peace of God. This peace is not necessarily a clarity about how it is all going to turn out, or even a sense of being in control of events. You can feel nervous, overwhelmed and still know God's peace, because God's peace is not about emotion, but about conviction.

•CIRCUMSTANCES/TIMING: "After these things he (Paul) left Athens and went to Corinth. And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, having recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to leave Rome. He came to them, and because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and they were working; for by trade they were tent-makers" (Acts 18:1-3 -- this relationship between Paul, Aquila and Priscilla, which happened as a result of circumstances, became one of the most important strategic partnerships in the book of Acts).

If God is leading us in a certain direction, it won't necessarily be easy - in fact it probably won't be easy. As the bible says, “So don’t get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up …” (Galatians 6:9 NLT). However, if God is in this, then as you step forward in faith to test whether this is from God or not, by using the tests outlined above, you need to be on the lookout for 'circumstantial incidents' and timings that seem to have God's hand on them.
