Thank you for your interest in the Sixth Form experience here at King Edward’s.
Our school’s mission today is ‘to create educational journeys with opportunities and shared experiences that transform the lives of our united community’, re ecting our proud history, thriving present and bright future.
Our Founder, Nicholas Ridley, Bishop of London, understood that education can transform lives and in 1553 inspired the young King Edward VI to grant Bridewell Palace in the City of London to the Lord Mayor to house, care and educate girls and boys. In 1860, the School was renamed King Edward’s and in 1867 moved to Witley. We are proud to maintain our royal and City of London connections which provide many opportunities for our sixth formers during their time at King Edward’s.
Today we offer day, full boarding, weekly boarding and exi-boarding options to our Sixth Form students from the UK and around the world. We will strive to provide you with a blend of structure and independence during your time with us, and to offer the best possible academic, co-curricular and social experiences as you choose your future university and career options.
We are here to answer any questions you may have around the Sixth Form at King Edward’s, and we look forward to being of service to you as you navigate your own route through these pivotal years of transition in your education.
With best wishes,
YOUR HOUSE EXPERIENCE AND LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Our supportive and sociable houses are at the centre of school life and of the wellbeing of our day and boarding sixth formers, providing space for you to relax, study and discover an annual programme of activities. In Lower Sixth, you’ll be the senior students in a house community. You will have many opportunities to play a leadership role in your house, working with our house parents and their experienced teams to design and deliver a full range of house activities and trips. You’ll be able to gain valuable experience by helping to support the younger pupils in your house and you’ll be able to feature in our wide-ranging and keenly contested inter-house activities and competitions.
In Upper Sixth you’ll transition to your dedicated Jubilee House, designed as a stepping stone to the independent experiences you’ll enjoy after leaving King Edward’s. The Jubilee House leadership team will support your academic progress, personal development and wellbeing and offer a range of social opportunities. Our Upper Sixth tutor team is based in Jubilee in the evenings to provide further subject specialism and university preparation support.
Jubilee House is built around shared work spaces, with en-suite boarding spaces as well as exi-boarding provision to suit the needs of day students. We have spaces for our senior students to develop life skills, including a teaching kitchen, several laundries, and a presentation area in addition to social spaces, a games area and a garden, during an unforgettable nal year at King Edward’s.
We’ll offer you many leadership opportunities during your time in our Sixth Form, including being selected as a house or school prefect, playing a central role within our co-curricular programmes, becoming a Peer Listener, creating a new club or society and helping younger King Edward’s pupils in a range of settings at our school.
The King Edward’s community continues to enthusiastically demonstrate our compassion in service, and our student-led Charities Committee curates a year-long range of activities. We are mindful of our responsibilities to our local, national and international environments and have gained Eco-Schools England accreditation with distinction, as national recognition of our student-led work in this area.

YOUR FUTURE PLANS
We are proud of our students’ diverse aspirations, and their onward journeys from our school re ect their ambition. You’ll bene t from a comprehensive Sixth Form higher education and counselling programme, including a bespoke Early Applications Programme for students aiming for Oxbridge, medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses at university. Each year around two thirds of our students transition to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities; others progress to a range of other, often specialist universities, to apprenticeships or directly to their chosen careers.
In addition to the breadth of post-18 destinations our sixth formers progress to, our students are encouraged to explore many higher education disciplines. Their inquisition is re ected in the breadth of programmes our leavers enjoy; in 2024 alone, these included English, Engineering, Fashion Management, Football Coaching, Industrial Economics, Illustration, Medicine and Modern Languages amongst many more. We take pride in our students’ results, and of the personal paths they choose as their next steps after leaving King Edward’s.

OUR CO-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES
We will offer you numerous options to participate, lead and mentor within our extensive co-curricular programmes during your time at King Edward’s.
Sixth Form students play a vital part of the drama offering at King Edward’s, taking leading roles both on and off stage as members of our backstage crew, leading on stage management, lighting, sound, and projection. We aim to offer a variety of play texts from large scale musicals to smaller student written productions. Groups of Sixth Form students run their own productions; casted, directed and publicised by the students themselves.
We are excellently located for visits to the West End, Chichester Festival Theatre and other touring venues, and we also welcome visiting practitioners from professional companies to Witley each year. Our LAMDA lessons are offered exclusively through our professional partnership with Creative Connection, and exams at grade 6 and above carry UCAS tariff points.
Our music department has a ne reputation for the breadth and quality of its music-making and includes a state of the art Mac Suite and recording studio, along with numerous practice and rehearsal rooms. Members of the Sixth Form are welcome to use the facilities during study periods as well as before and after school, often choosing to take individual music lessons and form and perform in bands and senior ensembles.
We have a signi cant range of performance opportunities and our international touring schedule offers unique cultural and musical opportunities. In the Sixth Form our students often form their own ensembles and bands and have the opportunity for perform in and out of school.
SPORT
King Edward’s Sixth Form sports programme is extensive. Our core sports - cricket, football, hockey, and netball – each have a dedicated Head in addition to our Director of Sport and Head of Girls’ Games. Over 100 school teams bene t from competitive and recreational opportunities in our core and a broader range of sports, including athletics, golf, rugby, swimming and tennis, during the week and at weekends, with a wide-ranging touring programme being offered to encourage our pupils to experience and enjoy different sporting environments.
In our Elite and Developing Performance pathway programmes, cited by the Professional Association for Directors of Sport in Independent Schools as an example of excellent practice, we work with partners to support and mentor pupils with the highest ambitions in a wide range of sports, including Toby Roberts (Old Witleian 2022; Olympic Gold Medallist, Sport Climbing,2024). Many of our pupils gain county, divisional and national honours and representation; our percentage participation rate per age group is signi cantly above national averages. We also support our pupils in gaining coaching and sport leadership quali cations whilst at King Edward’s.
